It’s my favorite collection that I have, I agree. You level up your self-esteem, continuing to be proud of yourself and appreciate the journey of collecting books, and you just want to keep going. Building your own library of the 5/5 books you love is the best thing in my opinion.

    I'm glad you mentioned artwork.
It's such an underrated thing in the whole "gentleman" lifestyle these days. Everyone talks about their bespoke suits and their expensive cigars and wine, but nobody ever talks about artwork.. Once upon a time, commissioning a fine painting or garden sculpture was right up there alongside a bespoke suit and expensive piece of furniature.
The camera obviously took away the need to have a portait painting of ones self... but that's not all people commissioned. People commissioneed scenes of religion, mythology, history, all kinds of things that a camera could never produce.
Where has it gone? If there are artists with the skill, can this once again become a thing? I advocate for this becoming a thing!

    • @Sam-gs8iw

No one's really into classical art these days. Just looks out of place in a modern home. Most art commissions these days are just tax loopholes.

    • @basilharrison3071

A commissioned portrait will always outlast a photograph. Both in terms of physical and aesthetic longevity. Gainsborough paintings are still just as great (if not better) today, and haven’t aged like a 1995 Nikon photograph

    • @basilharrison3071
      @basilharrison3071 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Sam-gs8iw It’s unfortunate. Modernity has really veered away from ornamentation in every way. Floater frames or minimalist frames and ‘around the stretcher bar’ paintings are a very modern aesthetic

My mom bought me a Montblanc 149 when I was in law school, and I used it to wrote my exams. Years later, my oldest daughter destroyed the nib playing with it, and I put it out of my mind. Last year, after 25 years I got the urge to replace the nib for almost 400 dollars. Now it sits in a stand on my desk at work and I use it whenever I have to sign a lot of documents. I have a rolex datejust, black and gold jacque marie mage eyeglasses and my 149, and while they were expensive I've had them for years and they make me indescribably happy every day, it was easily worth the money for the small moments of enjoyment.

Artwork sounds strange but is actually a good choice. My dad once went to New Orleans for a vacation and family meet. Commissioned some guy to create what I think is one of the best pieces of art I’ve ever seen. Even has this amazing style of using huge clumps of paint that dried and poke out more than a half inch in some spots. One of the first things I think about when I think of him.

Artwork is such an excellent choice not just for rewarding oneself, but for the enjoyment, fulfilment, and beauty also. Not to mention that supporting artists is one of the most worthwhile and time honoured things a gentleman can do. Buying original pieces as opposed to prints is always better. I live in Australia and use a site called Bluethumb where artists can sell their original works. But I'm sure there are many more similar sites.

I've taken a lot of tips from you guys in the past 18 months and am quite happy and proud of the things I've amassed, including jewelry and accessories. I do have a question however. I'm a big guy, and obviously, the suits I've purchased had to be fit for a good look. But I've found I detest wearing a belt. I keep my jacket closed at all times, so, is it ok to just wear suspenders and ditch the belt, like I have been... ?

    Hello GG.
I have got a question. What does Preston’s G lapel pin mean? Geometry/god or gentlemen’s gazette? It is cool. I like the forgot me not flower lapel pin. If you have some in your shop please tell me.
    Greetings from Germany.

As someone who lives in europe, where cuban cigars are common, I can confidently say that they are vastly over rated. If you buy a box of cubans, expect to find at least a quarter to a third of them rolled so tight they’re unsmokable. Also, they generally have to be aged for two, three or even four years before the aromas really develop. I’d recommend a good quality NC, like Rocky Patel. You’ll get a superior product for less money, and as NC’s generally are made with aged tobacco, you can enjoy them straight out of the box.

Nice idea and thank you for making it Kyle. Although I'm a regular bespoke clothing customer I'm financially conservative and I don't like the idea fo buying something to celebrate a success. Isn't the success enough in itself?

Another excellent video! Kyle what are your thoughts on hoodies being worn under a casual blazer? or do you feel it's more of a college kid look? Other wise I can throw on a crew neck underneath when it's cold instead. I'm sure it's all personal preference but just curious. Keep up the good work gents!

A hoodie with a blazer is quite the formality mash-up! Definitely stick with the crew neck for now. Remember that a V neck will pair with an odd jacket the best.

@@gentlemansgazette Thanks for the valuable feedback truly appreciated! I know it gets difficult for you all to respond to all supporters but whenever you do have the chance it's truly helpful. I completely agree by the way so for now I stick with my crew neck since I prefer to skip ties most of the time although someday I may want to get at least a couple V-Necks since lately I've been starting to wear Dress shirts more often when the weather is cooler. Out here it gets extremely hot so I also prefer to skip heavier Wool and Turtlenecks. I plan on adding a couple Herringbone Cardigans as well since I feel they would go nicely with all my shirts. Are Crewnecks considered more casual? That's my main goal with the majority of outfits. I may have to re watch your sweater video again in case I missed something. If I ever get some patterned sport coats then I would definitely wear the V-Necks underneath though as you suggested. Right now I have casual cotton Blazers with patch pockets that you can dress up or down making them completely versatile. I also have a Wool that is more dressy. I may ask again on a future video but for V-Necks what colors would you recommend would pair well with all shirts? I always enjoy learning about the background of the many garments you feature so thanks for all the effort you put into the videos.

When the housing in the 60 only cost like 10-20% of income and the rest you could buy luxury. Now 30-50% for a 3 roms appartement.

I know this may be slightly off topic, but I have been trying to find a quality tailor somewhere close to the US Midwest as I am from Indianapolis. However I cannot seem to find a vetted tailor near me. I would not mind traveling a few hours to another state. If you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. I recently graduated from university and want to celebrate with a bespoke suit. Thank you!
