  • @Shungago123
    @Shungago123 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +24

There’s 3 things that piss me off so much about journos. First is how bias they can be. I’ll never forget when Caroline Wilson said that Luke bevridge had mental health issues because he decided to grow his moustache out, or how Kane Cornes never criticises Ken Hinkley. The 2nd thing is how quickly they dick ride and hop off on players and coaches. When Geelong were 7-0 everyone in the media was saying “Chris Scott is by far the best coach in the afl it’s not even close” all of a sudden “nah mate time for a rebuild” “Tom Stewart is the best Backmen in the game” 2 months later “Tom Stewart can’t shake a tag” like come on man I bet people were saying they amartey is the next tony lockett cause he kicked 9 in a game and cause he plays for Sydney. Lastly the way that people in media act like players can’t make mistakes and have mishaps outside of footy but people like Tom Morrison and Wayne Carey and even BT can get away with abuse and misconduct is crazy and Caro,Sam McClure and a lot more making the most outlandish lies and claims and not getting into any trouble for it is bullshit the people in the media should be held accountable too when they do stuff like that because it affects players livelihoods outside of footy

Is that they can give their stupid hot takes, safe in the knowledge that there is zero accountability or call backs on what they say. This was a great video. The rush for clicks and to be “exclusive” trumps the integrity of the reporting. It’s why we have so many spelling and grammatical errors on our “news” sites.
For the most part sport reporting and general commentary are just talking heads competing for the hottest take. It’s what the US and the UK have and it’s horrible. Tabloid journalism with overpaid people inserting themselves like they are the athletes themselves.

This isn't just AFL journalism, this is all journalism.
If a random person has a drug test at work and fails, you're immediately fired. However in the AFL this is not the case. Clubs go out of their way to protect players from taking tests let alone revealing players who have failed tests. Clubs and the AFL should be held to at least the same standard as a random workplace and should be held to account for protecting known illegal activity of players (including positive drug tests).

    • @dhenderson1810

There might be some truth to what Caro says about WA.
    Let's take Ben Cousins.
Under father son, Ben Cousins should have played for Geelong.
But AFL manipulated the rules to get WCE a leg up, so he ended up at West Coast instead.
West Coast had a drug culture at the time. There were underworld figures who were pushing, and Ben came to associate with them and fell into drug use.
If he had gone to Geelong instead, their discipline and culture would have kept him on the straight and narrow and he might have not got a drug habit. He also never would have met the underworld figures in Perth.

Tony Armstrong diined out for weeks on this phrase "The Hawthorn Rascism Saga/Scandal". It was spewing from his lips non stop and I've not heard a retraction from Tony or the ABC since this fortnight or so of flat our BS reporting, especially since all avenues of legal investigation found no case to answer. He created a click bait 'GOLD' headline for the ABC and surfed his wave of indigenous anger like Hawthorn had personally attacked him. As it was finally discovered under police and legal questioning this entire claim was being made in an attempt to make some easy cash by flinging shit at the Hawthorn Football Club. Pure extortion. And the grubs who made these claims....quickly vanished like their so-called evidence. Tony Armstrong owes the Hawks, Clarko, Fagan and Burt a public apology for his antics and straight up dishonesty. The man is a shill and should be hated by all you like good honest journalism.

The problem with AFL journalists is most of them are conflicted with working for a local Melb media outlet and then working in a national competition Show. And then some cannot be non partisan with the Melb club they follow or their family has a rich history. But if your on a National show and speak on Melb radio or print for a melb paper, how can you be objective when your Audience for you side gig is local and only for one state.

It’s simple - there’s far too many reporters for what is essentially a local sport. At a time when media advertising and subscription revenues are tight, these self-styled journalists need to justify their positions, and so try to make big deals out of nothing or even make things up. The AFL loves it because it keeps them in the public’s attention.

They rarely look at issues like umpiring, 5 day breaks for some teams whilst their opponent may get 6, instead it is said that the coaching is bad for a team playing bad one week and greate the next, sorry players are becoming tired and hardly get time to rest these days... .the joke of a draw which favors the wealthy clubs and has become seriously unfair. And how money now influences games.via telecasts.. I wonder if the AFL wants close games and umpiring to make them close because they want people to look at ads MORE....

The reality is that every club is open to trading any player on their list. If a club came for say, Nick Daicos and offered the Pies 1/2 their best 23 players and offered to pay 1/2 of each players wage, they would take it. Therefore, I can factually say that Collingwood are open to trading Nick Daicos. This is how these journos operate.

I heard Rohan Conolly on the radio say the same thing, and he has actually worked with fellow footy journos who hate the game, but write about it because it brings more eyeballs and thus more money , than just about writing about anything else in Melbourne.
Footy is no 1, so some journos write about it, despite loathing it.

I would also take this further. We have people who work for Melb media in radio and print who vote for norm smith or All Australian. The teams are biased towards Melbourne players. Have a look at the All Australian the last few years. The A side has more Melbourne players and the B side has more non-Victorian players. It’s a joke. This year will be interesting because the top 4 has all non Victorian and the bottom 4 of the 8 has 2 non Victorian teams. But you watch the all Australian selection. To be elected of a non- Victorian team you have to really stand out ahead .

I think initially he probably didn't wanna be there, but you're pulling shit out of your ass if you think it's a fact that he'd leave at the first chance. West Coast have a pretty consistent history of bouncing back quickly and they're already putting together an alright squad. There's plenty of emerging talent there. They're still a ways off being even a finals team let alone a flag favourite, but any smart player/management team would be able to see the trends and stick where he'll get paid huge money and could be playing finals in the next 2 or 3 years. As opposed to going to some big Victorian club where he's not going to be paid the same because the teams full of superstars and will probably choke finals anyway.

@@jgphantom6 1) My body language claim is my own observation based upon many years in many different environments with people. 2) Harley is going to get paid wherever he goes, so that point is irrelevant. He's also just a simple country bloke, not some aspiring portfolio seeking magnate.. 3) It's a FACT that Harley did not want to move to Perth, so why you chose to reverse spin this is puzzling. 4) I personally KNOW that Harley approached Clarko about getting a trade done with WC, and I have no reason to believe that was because North were the logical choice with the draft capital to get the deal done. 5) I am positioned to have more of a "clue" than most. 6) Indeed, time will tell.....and the longer that time drags on, the more telling it will become. My own view is that Harley hasn't extended because he's still holding out that a deal could be done this year..........and there ARE suitors with the draft currency to influence West Coast.
