Nick Riewoldt Responds To Caroline Wilson, Danger's Ban, Who Have Essendon Beaten? | Footy Talk AFL

  • Nick Riewoldt and Joey Montagna respond to Caro's Elephant in the Room from Footy Classified last night about him not being at the Hall of Fame last week. Are Essendon living in a false-economy? Joey isn't reading too much into it. Port Adelaide are teetering in a precarious position with Ken Hinkley continuing to coach and lead the team, if it goes pear-shaped then the end might come sooner than we all thought.

      Totally agree. He is respectful but also says what needs to be said. Hopefully we see and hear much more of him.

      He didn’t call Sam Walsh a serial offender of staging for dangerous tackles which he has done a bunch of times now. And the De Koning is constantly breaking ruck rules, and that Curnow and McKay get the softest charity frees in the world. So no, he doesn’t say what needs to be said.

    Nick Riewoldt talking about '03-04' talking about Roos but it rings true with Freo this year. Finish well but finish 12th so you dont think much about it but then rock up this year with a different vibe

    honest question, did danger pull a hipdrop which i hear is illegal in nrl. in slomo it showed him in mid air throwing his entire weight and walsh , to the ground. he was trying to cushion but he was dropping pretty hard too. i dont know the answer im old school and we tackled. but the afl have the concussion thing blown away atm.

    Exactly who tf have Essendon beaten 😂😂

    • @taxads7791
      @taxads7791 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Who do they need to beat to make the finals, or could it be that in a very even competition where teams like Richmond can beat Sydney & get within 4 points of Carlton, the teams that you beat end up lower on the ladder because you actually beat them... eg if the dogs had beaten Essendon, wouldn't they be in the 8 now. What are they meant to do, lose to teams that may finish mid-table & then lift & play at 100% against teams that finish in the top 4. What happens during home/away means nothing for finals, eg Port beat Geelong in 2007 a couple of weeks before the finals, then faced them on Grand Final day & lost by 119 points..

    "When you look at the squads that he has had."
    Port have been Top 4 in three of the last four seasons.
    Throughout his tenure, Ken has had AA-caliber forwards (Wingard, Gray, Dixon), defence (Aliir Aliir, Darcy Byrne-Jones) and ruck (Ryder) at his disposal, not to mention a Brownlow Medalist (who is doing nothing at the moment) and three elite mids.
    And last year they finished Top 4, threw away future picks for a short-term boost and declared that this was the best list that Ken has ever had.
    At what point do the excuses end?

      Wingard, Dixon, Aliir, Byrne Jones are all very good B grade players.. Gray was A grade but on one leg his entire career. Ryder is the only player you mention that actually peaked as one of the best in the league. To make the Grand Final the Crows at one stage had peak Dangerfield, Sloane, Walker and Jacobs. Boak, one legged Gray, Ryder, Dixon is the closet we got.

      @@FastSunglasses Chad Wingard was without question an A Grader in his first 2 seasons though and there are various other solid players Ken Hinkley had in his time such as Jay Schultz who was their reliable key forward long before Charlie Dixon, Justin Westhoff, Jared Polec, Hamish Hartlett, Jackson Trengrove, Tom Jonas until last season, Brad Ebert, etc. Then there is the sheer amount of free agents he has had access in all that time. The likes of Angus Monfries, Paddy Ryder as already mentioned, Steven Motlop, Willy Rioli, Scott Lycett, Tom Rockcliff, etc. Combine all that with the amazing draft hand that club had back in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and last but not least their record games holder Travis Boak. You really start to understand just how badly Hinkley has failed in over a decade especially when compared to other teams such as Collingwood last season who have a plethora of mediocre players on their list beyond the obvious 5-6 stars yet still won the Premiership because Craig McCrae was able to get the absolutely best out of them.

      @@taliamason7986 I agree with pretty much everything said other than you're over rating everyone just a little. You named all my favourites really, it's just they don't stack up against the best sides imo. Boak is actually a great example, champion of our club but also not on the same caliber as other similar players like Selwood, Cotchin ect as much as it hurts to say. Gray too, he's as good as it gets in a way. But also so constantly injured that he couldn't take us anywhere

      Only one team wins the flag each year. If they win they’re a legend. If they lose they are a loser. Winning the flag takes more than just a head coach.

    It wasn't Essendon's fault that their opposition sucks.
