As soon as AFL games being played in China back in 2015. That is when ESG started to come into the League to please investors pushing hard for Blackrock/Blackstone and stuff like that, the way how Sam Newman was treated on the Footy Show back last decade should have been the canary in the coalmine. That is just my theory based on what I have seen both in Sport and Entertainment.
I fucking hate the argument that we shouldn't have welcome to country at the start of games. This r/circlejerkaustralia (really dumbass subreddit) opinion is just kinda stupid. I mean yes, it is a bit of virtue signalling by the AFL, but we actually get to learn the names of the territories on which our great game is played on. Also we get to gain a tidbit of cultural knowledge, sometimes, like a greeting, or the nation's garb. Garb? Yeah, garb. Yes they can be sometimes a bit too long but it's better than not recognising the indigenous people that originally lived on that land at all. That's straight up racist. Also quick side note- can we not dogpile on the guy who said "BC = Before Cook". He's right and we shouldn't be raising our voices in anger over it. Instead we should sit, contemplate, and work towards understanding. i.e. asking indigenous community members what that statement means to them and how we can move forward as a country and stuff.
In regards to welcome to country, we need to be careful not to overdo the ceremony. Just not do it overboard, just have it during that two weeks that we celebrate the Aboriginal culture, but keep it out of the finals and other rounds because we don't want to tire people over it.
i wrote an essay on how football/afl permeates misogyny and hatred, even misandry through the general demonisation and attacking of other men, gay men, BIPOC men, mental health and women
Well done. Difficult subject. I'm an old bloke, explayer and lover of the game. I'm also not a Sam Newman fan. However Welcome to Country should be limited to the indigenous round where it has some relevance. You can agree with this or not. Why are you upset about Sam being upset. Opinions are like arseholes, everyone's got one. As for the gay issue gay men and gay women are from my obsevation attracted in different percentages to different sports. I think your quoting population percentages of gays is irrelevant. The percentage of gay men playing AFL will be lower than the general population and higher for gay women (if that all makes sense). Otherwise I agree with your assessment. Also try to avoid calling negative criticism hate. Anyway, very thought provoking. Keep up the good work.
The reason they hold the welcome to country every round is because the point is to acknowledge the history of the land, limiting it to only the indigenous round takes away the point that everywhere everyday everything is done on indigenous lan in this country. Don’t really care if you disagree or not just trying to clear up the reasoning for why they do it each game
The afl need to relax words are just words. The things they should be worried about is 1 The Drafting system 2 Law suits 3 The Match fixing 4 Rules are inconsistent 5 double ups for fixturing/ Where teams play each other 6 Click bait from the media 7 The Feral Fans 8 People like Eddie McGuire causing trouble
The second the AFL tried to tell me how to vote on political issues, I was done. Selective political advocacy is pure evil. The AFL want to have their cake and eat it too. They want to pick and choose which political issues they stick their nose in to and which political issues the shun. This is unacceptable, the AFL is either political or it isn't (They are) which means when they choose to no address a particular political issue, they're making a political statement that they don't care about that issue. They'd have you believe that they can cherry pick which political issues they involve themselves with, but that's gas lighting. The AFL is political and when they never speak up on domestic violence against minors (and many other issues), they're making a political statement that they don't care about domestic violence happening to children. We know this to be true because they will go to extraordinary efforts to try and shame people into voting certain ways on certain issues. They've proven they have the motivation to stick their nose into political issues which means they also have the motivation to not stick their nose in political issues. Too bad, kids, the AFL don't give a damn about you unless you're female and then when you grow up the AFL will suddenly go from not caring about you at all to being creepily over interested in caring for you.
On welcome to country, no issue at all with aboriginal people enlightening all Australians on aboriginal heritage. It’s a good thing. But non aboriginal people saying “we acknowledge the owners of this land…” is odd. It’s like if someone broke into your home and every time you tell them to leave they just respond with “I acknowledge this is YOUR home”. Ok, great. If you’re not going to leave , then what’s the point in telling me you acknowledge you are trespassing? Either leave or shut up.
why should we be enlightened?...i was born here, this is as much my country as anyones, why should i have to be welcomed to it?. If it wasnt for people like my grandfathers, this country wouldeve been over run, and the indigs wouldeve been really 'geno'd'.
@daniellebcooper7160 I was born here too. I don't believe this is their land. I believe this is our land. I don't mind being enlightened which particular tribe has been in the area prior to Europeans. It's historic. But it's not YOUR land anymore. It's OUR land. We are all Australians. My point is that those non aboriginal virtue signallers who do welcome to country should put their money where their mouth is : if they really believe this is not their land, if they really believe this land is owned by aboriginal people, then they should leave.
Mate, I like watching the AFLW, but I can't stand hearing the screaming in the background on the TV. I think that they have the effects mic set too high. The other day I heard a guy shouting "kill her Maddie" on the TV at an AFLW match. And I was wishing that I would hear a male voice because I was sick of the screeching. And then I heard a man shouting that vile statement. But other than telling people to kill someone, I like the crowd to be hyped. But some people are idiots. 😂
I'm glad that some thought is being put into content like. You see plenty of clickbait videos that says nothing meaningful about the state of AFL where there is always something wrong. Why is it hard to accept the game is in a good place?
OK bro there is no AFL player to come out as gay. But you are forgetting about what happened to Dani Laidley. She used to be Dean Laidley, former North Player and coach and Collingwood assistant coach. He was outed by members of the Victoria Police. Which they were reprimanded for. But he decided to come out as trans after that. And to the issue of trans. He played in the men's. I know that there was no AFLW back when he was a player. But I don't agree with anyone who is not actually female to be competing in women's sports. And I don't think that we should even discuss that one anymore.
Firstly that's just straight up not true. Secondly, of course the AFL would want to expand their new league. From a business perspective they know people are gonna rock up and watch mens games, but the women's games aren't as popular yet so of course they are gonna push it more.
Great video once again! Hope to see more stuff soon 😊

Shouldn't have it at all...its nonsense
people are already tired of it...considering that it was never an official ceremony to begin with.
@@daniellebcooper7160 Agreed, people are sick of it considering what happened in the Semi Final weekend and what that person on the field said.
