The system can also be powered via that USB-C port. There's also an I/O board that gives you DC power in capabilities (9-36VDC) it also gives you two additional serial ports and 4 * DI/DO ports, and two additional PoE out ports too, based on RTL8153B. (part# 4XH0X77236) it connects and powers the device via that USB-C connector. There is an AMD version M75n IoT as well. This was a great deal on a normally much more expensive device. Currently using one as PFSense with the updated drivers. I installed a second SSD so I can boot into the original windows SSD to update the firmware. If anyone knows how to install fwupd in pfSense, let me know. Also, only the i3 comes with dual NIC, the Celeron does not. (Disclosure: I work for Lenovo.)

Does it accept power over PoE? - I would love something like this as a Kubernetes worker node, but it should be even smaller & come with Ubuntu, booting to windows to update firmware is... bit of a hassle.

"Translation: I lose USB serial cables" I've always joked that I could make a fortune by setting up a little lemonade stand outside of a datacenter and selling USB serial adaptors, DB9 to RJ45 adapters, and C13 to NEMA adapters (for charging your laptop from a PDU), screw drivers, velcro tape, and rack nut tools . I bet I could charge $100 for any one of them

I was watching videos on old industrial mini PCs and decided to do a search for this very unit. I bought that exact model with mouse, keyboard and WiFi card four years ago for $265 US. A good deal I thought. I had it connected to my TV for light browsing and installed a second M.2, a 1TB to use as backup for a few movies and all my photos.
It runs Windows 11 Pro currently and I removed the second drive to use as a boot drive for an ancient ASUS H97 Plus.
Windows 11 runs quite slowly with 4GB of RAM but it's still useful, although I have no hardware that needs a com port. The USB-C display dongle allowed me to hook up a portable monitor from Amazon.

There's another reason to use real serial ports instead of USB convertors. Allot of USB convertors don't have RS232 handshaking implemented. Which is a issue if your equipment actually uses these extra lines. Your average switch or router console port won't need it but I ran into this problem when programming microcontrollers.

These would be great for use in restaurants as an order display, with serial button control and printer, and fanless they wouldn't get all junked up. The other option would be digital signage or kiosk displays with simple inputs. Another idea would be weather stations or sensor logging in a remote location, with such low power you could run it off a small solar setup and ping your server with data using mobile data connections. They would run some stripped-down Linux easily. Routing is probably not the best.

Re-watching this makes me want this for a remote console system to access switches. Hang 1 NIC directly off the firewall & then connect 1 console port to your core switch. It’s really a sweet little box.

This thing is an integrator's dream - I just picked up an m75n IOT for a fuel management system project along with the IOBOX. 4in4out DIDO, Watchdog timer, MORE serial ports (that also support 422 and 485), and more ethernet (with PoE out) - plus it can all live outside - just a ton of options for this!

    1. These units can be configured with Core i5 quad core and also 8GB RAM.
    2. There are 3 Ethernet configs: single Realtek, dual Realtek, Intel + Realtek. There is no option for dual Intel for some strange reason.
    3. There is an AMD version called M75n-IoT which comes with AMD Athlon Silver 3050e dual core + 4GB RAM + single Realtek gigabit (only choice).

I also purchased it from Levono at the $200 + tax price tag (free shipping). Great little computer that is perfect for web surfing, emails and video calls. The fan less design works and obviously is noiseless. I plugged in a 1 TB external SSD into the rear USB-C port to store all of our files. I prefer a natural keyboard, but the included keyboard with number pad works great for our needs. I agree that I would have preferred a lower price and bought the unit without the mouse/keyboard.

On a tangent, i recently ordered one of the Lenovo M75Q-Gen2, with 8 core Ryzen 7 4750GE, for only $515 direct from lenovo(everything was base, even removed the keyboard and mouse) but for an 8 core micro PC that is upgradable, thats actually a really good price for current generation hardware, makes me hopefully we'll finally see the launch of 5000 series APUs

Low power consumption + passive to me means easy to solar power, minimum battery impact overnight, and 100% reliable cooling that can't fail longer term. Nice. Thinking of setting up a light weight machine on a remote property to run some lights, microphones, sensors, cameras, etc and ship the data back to my desk/NAS with local buffering. Maybe chuck a 2TB NVMe stick in there with the smaller OS one. Neat. I don't have a full design in mind yet, but low power is good for winter or with solar damaged/covered/stolen and ONLY on battery power. I doubt I can get it for that price, but it or something similar is on my radar.

Perfect for home video, especially with the serial since high end TVs, Projectors and Audio Receivers are still managed with RS232, fast networking for both direct to TV streaming and accessing remote storage and support for multiple NVME/SATA M.2 SSDs means you have a lot of local storage for media.

I actually bought three of em when the i3 version went for under 200 bucks, to add to two of the 145 dollar celeron versions I'd already picked up a couple days earlier.
The price/performance for these things is just out of this world for a brand new piece of kit, at least at the price point they'd had them offered at. Un-friggin-believable. So many options, from creating your own routers with dual wan failover (LTE and ethernet even), to running an always on plex server (coffee lake igpu transcoding is pretty stelar imo, and saves me putting a gpu in my truenas system system by accessing everything over the network), managing both my network switches... heck, I feel like I'm only just getting started.
I've toyed with the idea of hacking another nic onto the secondary nvme slot, maybe something multi-gigabit to see what kind of performance it's really capable of...
    Exciting stuff!!!

5:15 - I think this cover was made because of regulations. For example european IEC 61010-1 regulation about "Outer surface of enclosure touched unintentionally" says, that in case of metal parts maximum allowable temperature is 65'C. For plastic that temperature is higher (85'C, because plastic transfers heat slower and maybe has lower specyfic heat).

I didn't even actually know about the pfSense (CE/Plus) fiasco until watching this video, and now I'm considering migrationg to OPNSense! Either way, pfSense, or OPNSense, this system looks sick. I replaced the 128GB SSD with a 22x42 512GB, and stuck an evo 970 1tb into the second slot. Works perfectly fine, the only tricky bit is that you'll have to clone the original SSD if you want boot to actually work.

I can only find 1000NZD units in the IOT since the beginning so clickbait.

Yea NZ is a tough market. These go on sale periodically. The higher-end version that William reviewed for us in 2020 was only $419 then, now it is $649. Lenovo moves pricing around a lot. Just need to watch it. But NZ is more expensive.

What's the point of reviewing something that you cannot buy?

A 23 minute video that could have been 8 min... downvoted.

4:16 and still nothing useful said. I could skim the article faster than this... In fact, I think I will...

Lenovo changes sales from time to time. Not much we can do about it. We showed how these were $200 and sold in decent quantities (1700+ sold just on that Lenovo eBay listing)

Anybody told you that you speak to much? Make your videos shorter and go to the point faster. Dont need a 23 min video to review something like this. Great ideas but terrible composition a lot of fast talking and nonsense words that have nothing to do with the product, time consuming and tiring video.
