for $90 you can get yourself an elitedesk usff with 4 core I5 4th generation, wifi and also the possibility of adding an m.2 ssd. cheaper and better than this thing
I'm kind of getting tired of this to be quite honest. Every single time he put some video with a product I like I decide to go try and buy it and it's impossible to get.
@Ayjop It can do what some people want most of the time, disappointing almost everyone some of the time. If it works for you, fine. I don't have a niche where it would be useful.
Nice system! I was lucky enough to spot a similar mini machine on Cyber Monday. HP Prodesk 400 G2 Mini I found for $120. It's a very small machine also (a little bigger than this but not much) features an i3, 8GB (up to 32GB) display port, ethernet, BT and plenty of USB ports. I've been using it ever since and it's a slick little machine- silent and runs all I need it too. I will upgrade the RAM to 32GB and possibly stick an i7 (6700T) as it's CPU upgradable as well. You may want to check out the Prodesk line!
The M90 IOT (which is the replacement for this M92 on the Lenovo site) is now starting at 360$ and looks like a pretty nice machine. If you need something that small, I'd recommend Protecli boxes as they are half the price and have more upgrade options.
How much does the fan sound in those? Does it turn of on idle? I got a HP Elitedesk 800 G2 mini (same size, was easier to find second hand where I am), and am happy with it except for the fan sound on low utilisation (always on, slightly annoying in a otherwise quite room, and it goes up and down repeatedly quite rapidly which makes it more noticeable).
This is similar to my HP T640 Thin Client with the Ryzen R1505G embedded processor. Though the MSRP is higher than this unit, I did get it off an ebay seller who didn't realize what they had. I paid $169 and has similar specs to this. I have since dumped the 128GB m.2 SATA SSD for a 480gb version, swapped out the 8GB of ram for 32GB, and added a wireless card for bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Since then I've found the HP T740 with a better processor. These are great machines!
You should test the Linux. So we could compare with PIs and other SBCs out there. Fanless x86 with this power is very nice, never saw on this rpice range...
No point to making this kind of comparison really, RPi and other similar SBCs are always a worse choice than any x86 computer in the same price bracket for most use cases. Like trying to compare a Vespa to a Ducati.

@@nosuchthing8 Sure, but you can't get a Pi with a processor that can handle any meaningful workloads so the extra 4GB of RAM really isn't all that significant. @@nosuchthing8 "Supercomputer" is kinda a misnomer because they still don't have more performance than spending the same amount of money on regular PC hardware, but what a lot of those setups are for is developing and testing applications that require a bunch of nodes because the Pi cluster is cheaper than the equivalent amount of full scale hardware if it's something they're doing regularly. I'm not saying that RPis are bad, just a lot of things people expect them to do they either aren't particularly good at or the task is outside of their capabilities, and if you're in a position where you'd consider x86 for the activity that's more than likely just what you should do and skip over all the SBCs.
One of the only things that keeps us from going to something like that in the corporate world for cheap user desktops, is Windows Update absolutely clobbering that CPU. I like the Larkbox Pro, amazing pc for it's size. Just turned one into an emulation station for my Daughter and Grandson for Christmas with 512gb m.2 ssd.
Very good video review. I just got the Intel® Core™ i3 dual core 4 threads 3.90 GHz model for use with my TV. Needed something small, cheap and able to handle 4K.
For a little media pc this thing seems great. Cheaper than any console all you would need is a little wireless keyboard / touchpad combo and you're in business.
I actually use a Pi 4 as a desktop. I have a “real” laptop that I can use for a “fill-in” device when I need it. The real use of something like this would be a POS system, the size and position of the ports doesn’t really save much in the way of desktop space. I used to sell computer systems, and you really have to honest about what you have planned for a computer like this before you buy it. To expect this to be a “cheap” gaming system would be a huge stretch of the imagination.
I don't know if I would pick this one up unless I'm actually doing an IoT project where I need a ton of expansions. For desktop use, I think the J4125 Larkbox Pro is more attractive with comparable single core performance and 50% more multi core performance and 50% more memory, at $160 (1064 CNY), let alone much smaller size and true portability.
Would love to see a review of the I3 version in a future video. Priced at $219, if it were able to reliably emulate generation 6 games, which this unit is right on the edge of being able to do, it would make it the best bang for your buck for mid-level emulation.
The price is comparable to a Raspberry pi 4 with nice case, power supply, fancy antenna, USBC to HDMI adapter, mouse and keyboard. If you could plug in Atari/Sega controllers into those front parallel ports. That would be awesome for retro gaming. Just needs a woodgrain finish on the top heat sink.

Looking at this because... I'd like a portable system where I can use my wonderful logitech keyboard for writing on the road. Add a small but nice screen.... this might work!
But not available at this price anymore in the US... it was just a temporary sale price. The title is misleading because nobody can get one of these for $129
lpddr4 at 2133mhz is holding this back a big time! .. they should have used normal ddr4 21333mhz or atleast lpdrr4 at more than 3000mhz .. posibally 3800mhz .. lpddr4 is half the bandwidth of ddr4 and that's why many units run at very high speed to compensate and they can do it pretty easy.
About as fast as a Core 2 Duo E8500 which I had back in the day. Pretty interesting that this thing can be had in a headless but otherwise complete package for that price.
Interesting device, and not bad for the price. It’s a long time since I owned a PC with two serial ports, not much call for them nowadays, in a home environment at least.
This is yet another example of windows X86 having more refined graphics support than open source SBC & OS. The i3 version of this would be a handy no nonsense tool, but this one is too weak to buy new today. $219 for i3 is a head scratcher, I am writing this on a year old $300 Ryzen 5 laptop from lenovo -all that and a bag of chips. Until windows and X86 get a clue I am focused on my M1 MBA and run all old software in emulation. For Open source control RPie -there is some really cool stuff coming for the compute module.
The $279 i3-8145U M90n IoT seems to have a lot more going for it and at least includes a wireless Keyboard and mouse... The tested Celeron version benchmark's seem comparable to Core2Duo machines from about 10 years ago. How many users would really want an obsolescent $144 C2D box with a thrift store grade wired keyboard and mouse today? We have about a half dozen working retired C2D era machines in storage waiting for the recycler!
I would love to see you have a go with the top end i3 and I believe they will release an AMD one soon. It could be fun to use the m.2 slot to put in an external gpu. Thanks for the great content!
The Zen based M75n just shipped. The reason everyone is seeing "out of stock" is because Lenovo just did a huge coupon campaign and cut the prices dramatically. This ended up being cheaper than some of the recent Intel SBC's. I think Lenovo is onto something.

Hey Prime, great video! I had a request, could you try running Breath of the Wild on the M1 Mac via any of the well known emulators? Very Curious. Also, Happy holidays
Looking at this because... I'd like a portable system where I can use my wonderful logitech keyboard for writing on the road. Add a small but nice screen.... this might work!
it cost 2.5X more in my country WITHOUT the peripherals, just bare bone fanless cpu. that's a good deal you have.
But not available at this price anymore in the US... it was just a temporary sale price. The title is misleading because nobody can get one of these for $129
This looks sick

Love this, would like it running dual boot windows / android myself as a media centre
Wow!!! Very impressed for that PC is perfect for my Dad's office
lpddr4 at 2133mhz is holding this back a big time! .. they should have used normal ddr4 21333mhz or atleast lpdrr4 at more than 3000mhz .. posibally 3800mhz .. lpddr4 is half the bandwidth of ddr4 and that's why many units run at very high speed to compensate and they can do it pretty easy.
When I look on the Lenovo site it says "This product no longer available". Bummer.
hi eta I think a staple for testing GameCube emulation should be melee in your list since it has such a huge scene playing online using dolphin
If I can still find it at this price, it will immediately replace my plan to get RPi 400 except for projects that need I/O pins.
Looks NICE :)
ToastedFart. What a great username
Annnnnnd its gone! The ETA effect is at it again! Good news is that the i3 version is now $215 and there is a military/student/first responder discount too.
Dood that’s froogin’ nuts!
Merry Christmas 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭👍👍👍🎅🎅🎅🎄🎄🎄
Merry Christmas 🎄 Jeff.
protip: moving your mouse and having the youtube interface causes frames to drop
For machines like this i think you should test League of Legends and something like Pubg Lite, nice vid btw
Interesting little computer. Pretty cool deal! But how do you get a disc (for an external drive) or card of Windows X for if you need to reinstall it?
This seems like an ideal PC for a PC CRT VGA monitor @ 480p or 720p
One thing about the possibility to upgrade wifi. Lenovo is notorious for locking out other network cards at a bios/firmware level
What's the point of giving a full Windows license to something branded as an IoT device?
