    I love how Pupkin says "I'm in a meeting myself" when he's on the phone with Jerry's receptionist, he turns away and lowers his voice so the lady behind the counter doesn't hear him say it. Brilliant acting.

    What's truly sad is that everyone around can tell that something is wrong & yet no one steps in. This is how people get lost in our society.

      I think his mom is dead and he is just imagining he hears her voice is yelling at him. Rupert was more than a bit out of touch with reality, but nonetheless, determined to become famous as a comedian. Probably, Deniro's best performance as an actor is in this movie. This is his most brilliantly acted role, IMO.
      1. Rupert Pupkin
      2. Jake Lamotta
      3. Young Don Vito Corleone

    The problem with Pupkin is he wanted to be Jerry without doin the work. He just wanted to make it! He’s VERY lucky they even talked to him. Today, they won’t even do this! I would’ve taken that advice, work on my act, and contact them etc.

    • @nycinstyle
      @nycinstyle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it's only a movie. Deniro's character is sick. He is delusional and obsessional in his thought processes. It makes him a loner, stuck on .making it in show biz through his delusional relationship with a tv talk show host. I dont think he realizes that his actions are improper. He ends up being a star, anyway, since society is so set on bringing attention to people who do unususl things.
      We see it today more than ever. I dont think off of that, what he did in movie kidnapping, etc, In reality, I dont think thst would make him a star. Maybe someone with his own TH-cam channel today. Lol

      That is a very typical thing a person will do sometime in life. Go on a date, and/or sitting with a girl you really like. Easy to understand how he feels going on date or being with a girl he really likes.
      Deniro's characters were hysterical IMO both times. Very, very out there uncomfortable in ways and odd, but liksble at same time.
