      I almost got killed that way. I was starting a new job and the boss got a driver for our team to go to site that he didn't tell us was a complete nutcase.
      When he realized that he was about to miss an exit, he pulled from the third lane into the exit lane and we just missed being collected by a B-double doing 100 km/h.

      "i cant even fathom stopping traffic selfishly" and that is why, some people think of others and feel shame or anxiety when they inconvenience others. While some people feel nothing of the sort, it's one of the many things that separates decent people from assholes.

      That was piss poor driving all around there. Swervin Mervyn in the silver sedan was an idiot for driving like that in peak traffic into the sun; his rival in the red crackerjack box car was travelling too close to the car in front of him (he seems to have narrowly avoided a collision at first, then he rolled into the car in front anyway); and old mate with the dashcam was also travelling too close, then sped up to get even closer. At least he had the wherewithal to swerve around instead of locking the brakes.

    2:50 Yeah, a video from my home town Eastwood - brings back memories - 15 years ago I was a motorcyclist riding in the direction towards the youtube viewer and a taxi did exactly what the Tesla did - T-boned me and I was off the seat with only my hands holding on to the bars and heading straight to a telegraph pole before my feet sat down onto the pegs and I was able to narrowly miss the pole. Needless to say - the taxi didn't stop, a witness got a partial plate (his first words "I can't believe you're alive") and the livery was obvious and Eastwood cops were next to useless (I'm tempted to say the constable was a man with special needs and was probably commuted to the station each day from his rubber wall-lined sanctuary in a yellow bus)

      Your experience with police matches mine. I was sideswiped (hoon passing on the left, hit & run), cop said "might have been YOUR fault" and walked away. When I insisted it still HAD to be reported (hit and run) he sighed, rang up the witness and told them they COULDN'T have seen a collision occur if they were behind me, turned to me and said YOU'VE GOT NO WITNESSES, and closed the whole thing off as a "minor collision" with no investigation. Didn't even check the rego of the other driver. As I didn't have the 3rd party details, Insurance offered FULL excess and LOSS of no-claim bonus.

      @@Markus_Andrew I was told 2 reasons. Firstly you often can't see the driver and so can't prove in court who was in control of the vehicle at the time. My personal thought on this is that if it wasn't reported stolen and you won't name the driver then you take the fine.
      The other reason is "Chain of custody" which ensures the video isn't tampered with. A police video can be tracked every second of the way, not true for a civilian one. Odd really, they'll accept my testimony that "Yes, that's the driver of the vehicle. I saw him" but not my video showing the guy driving the vehicle. It may be that laws haven't kept up with technology, I think most were written in the days of grainy VHS. "Yes, the armed robber was a tall, grey blur".

    • @Cheesus-Sliced
      @Cheesus-Sliced ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yellow means stop if safe to do so. The cammer was about 20m from the intersection, in which case its safest to proceed at the speed they were going. The only unsafe thing was the vehicle from the right turn only lane moving to the left halfway through the intersection, and if not for that the cammer would have been well clear by the time the all red phase finished.
      As a rule, if you are fully stopped before the light turns red, you shouldn't have stopped (unless you're moving really slow, i.e. heavily congested traffic).

      @johnnichol9412 at the end of the day, there are standards for linemarking. The vehicles position relative to the solid line approaching the intersection tells me the vehicle was within 20m of the intersection, and 34km/h is still about 10 metres per second. Given that we set timing for lights with the presumption of a 2 second reaction time, which the law accounts for, over 85% of drivers would have passed through that yellow under the same circumstances.
