    This video is a little dangerous, to be honest. I have been in two businesses over the past 4 years since I was 14. custom baling hay and now excavation, the hay came easy, just a few signs and I was netting 1300 per day. This last year I put all the money into a skid steer (tl140 Takeuchi) and here is where I think you went wrong in this video. You make it out to be easy and just quit your job and finance a skid steer. In reality that is not how it goes and you should make that clear, I like how motivational you are but you need to be realistic as well, in reality, it takes a year to be set up properly to do it full-time. I mean you said to talk to a builder and sub for them but in reality, you need to have a stack of paperwork and obtain a workers comp clearance certificate before you will do any of them, which takes at least 3 months. Not to mention you need to have insurance, you need to have a dot number if you ever cross state lines or you will pay 1700 in fines, and you need to have a brand and business cards done so you don't end up writing your number on a napkin when people ask you for a card. I'm not hating on this, I actually love it but encouraging people to jump in with both feet is a recipe for disaster, also enfisise that the prices you are charging are area specific and you can't on making the money you are talking if you aren't in the right area. Around here if you tried to charge what you said you wouldn't land a single job, I did a 9-acre clearing job with a 15-ton rented excavator and charged 6 grand (given I should have charged 10 because I didn't leave any margin to dent a panel and end up with a 7200 rental bill, which was supposed to be 2500) but definitely not 35k for the job. Anyways good luck folks

      Yeah, I don’t know what state you’re in but a lot of those regulations don’t apply in our state and of course having insurance and everything is a must and where we were located, we don’t really do any traveling across state lines no need to but all those points are valid for sure

    Thinking of buying a bobcat s66 for my tree service. I also like destroying things. How would one go about finding small concrete demolition jobs? I know most people don’t haul concrete but it’s free to get rid of it if I feel like driving 30 miles to the place that grinds it. Would a $250 “mobilization fee” and $125/hour be enough to cover small jobs like that you think? Already got a truck and 14k lbs dump. Just need the S66. It’s almost like having a second mortgage as much as they cost. Kinda makes me a bit nervous, but I did just rent one with a grapple to clear some brush. Maybe like 300sq foot or so. Charged like $775 for it. Took like 4 hours plus another hour to dump brush.

    Hello and congratulations on your success! I run junk removal business and flirting with an idea to get myself a skid steer. The only problem is that I know nothing about them(besides some basic information), was wondering how hard is to learn to operate these and also is it possible to purchase dissent machine for 10-15k with around 50hp. Is it enough or needing more powerful equipment?

    • @dirtworktv
      @dirtworktv  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s pretty easy to learn how to operate them. If you have an area where you could run one. I bet you could figure it out within a day and then after that just keep practicing my best bet is you should try to rent one do a project for a family member or at your yard whatever And see how it goes

    1:25 drags the gap tooth bucket across the concrete driveway. Now I'm not trying to be a keyboard slayer here but if your not naturally attracted to heavy equipment and talented on a skid steer this video could get people into a bit of trouble making a mess of jobs. There is a level of skill required to make money.

    • @dirtworktv

      The tri-axle I have is awesome. If there’s any recommendations I can give you if you’re able to get a gooseneck makes a world of difference towing capacity, smoothness of your ride, and in my opinion Dump Trailer‘s way to go kill multiple birds with one stone makes you so much more versatile. I have a couple flat decks and hardly ever use them now that I use the dump trailers.

    Thinking about getting a mulching head just not sure if there is enough work for a forestry mulcher, I do live in northern Illinois so I mean there is stuff to clear, I see about 3 forestry management companies within 25 miles. Not sure if a $35k mulching head is worth the investment, thoughts? I'm going to get a few attachments as soon as I get the skid steer, but this is obviously the most expensive one.

    • @dirtworktv
      @dirtworktv  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m sure there’s use for it I don’t see a ton of demand for it in my area in Michigan. There’s definitely a lot of companies to do it but it in my opinion like I said my opinion if you’re a smaller company in just trying to gain a bunch of work to build your company. I would say some of the best attachments I’ve used so far are the greater attachment for the Skid Steer hands-down freaking awesome if you use the one with like six way control on the blade. We use the grapple a lot we use the sweeper a lot, but I’m sure if you hustle and make that your niche you can kill it all day because I guarantee you that those forestry companies in your area leave a ton of the small jobs that would be perfect for you on the table

    • @wendellreich766

      I bought a used Vail brush cutter. Not the same as a mulcher, but mine is taking out 8” mesquite’s and that’s a hard tree. My advice, find a rental company that has a mulcher, go bid a job, rent the mulcher and make some money. If it catches on, go buy one. Down here, guys charge $1200-$1350/day for mulching jobs. You can get $800-$1000 for brush cutter jobs, which is very close to a mulcher.

      Draft up a nice flyer, describing what you do and the area you service.
      Get your family and friends to proof read I, and to add any suggestions.
      Print 500 colour to start with, and you and your wife over a 3 or 4 week period letterbox drop in your chosen area.
