      I joined the army when I was 17…. I was an athlete. Soccer, football, and track. I had endurance running down but not quite to the standards of push ups. I quickly without choice got up to par fairly quick. 300 club and PT stud was my goal. After basic I only failed to reach it once… 120 degrees in Iraq, not hydrated, not training cardio, no sleep, last minute… BUT I did put on 15lbs of muscle in 18 months!
      The one thing lacking that I wish would have made a habit then was the healthier eating habits. We didn’t always have a choice but I coulda at least made a mental note and practiced when I could.
      Fast forward 18yrs and the moral of the story… if you build it as a foundation now it just becomes something you do and who you are. There’s really no excuse unless you’re physically disabled to not make an attempt at being healthy. Good luck bud, keep it up, there’s gonna be some really shitty days but stay motivated!!!

    I used to have such a negative view on mind muscle connection. Really paid it lip service and used to scoff at the idea! “You’re telling me if I focus on my chest while squatting my chest will grow?!”
    Checked my ego and attitude and really put the practice into motion and done what the guys have said, slow and controlled and low weight. It really does work.

    I’m gonna go out on a limb and take credit for this topic because of my question last week 😌. No, but seriously this is exactly what I’m dealing with as a BBW (Bootyless Black Woman). I am FARRR from the stereotype for us back there 👀) I’m working crazy hard to build it but my top half is blowing it out of the park! I’m definitely going to try these tips. And now I know I can scale back on my back and chest which are my most developed muscles and focus on my quads and glutes. Thanks Guys!

Also, an episode (or series) breaking down all the different ways to focus for a different muscle connection would be awesome!

    Hey guys, I’m 22, Through high school and college I played football and was a Olinemen so strength and explosion was my only goal along with weight gaining until I recently graduated. Never really cared or was warned about the long term effects of lifting so now I have some damage done to back, knees, etc that I’m working to fix. Just wanna say you are have been amazing with helping me better myself and find new studies or perspectives that make lifting and personal growth more than just a hobby

    I feel like I’ve kind of noticed an overuse of tricep in my bench press as well. I still performed benches well, but definitely could tell my struggling points was at the lowest point where the chest should be taking the majority of the work. It wasn’t until I really focused on getting into the perfect form when I realized how much more power I had.

    @Mind pump. Hey guys if you are trying to build a mind muscle connection to a muscle. Try blasting it with the Joov redlight / near infared whilst trying to contract and relax the target muscle over and over. This method allowed me to build great connection to my upper pecs and my abdominals

  • @analyticalchick3064
    @analyticalchick3064 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I watch every new episode. I'm still in newbie gains so I didn't need this episode, but I think by watching MindPump I will get newbie gains for longer. I do a new program every 2 to 3 months or so. I get to see progress for that time and then I switch exercises. I did handle band focused upper body, then eccentric calisthenics, then concentric cali and now I'm doing a mix of barbell, dumbbell and booty band work (deadlift, calf raises, rows, biceps, lunges, squats, and deadhangs). Next up, I go back to calisthenics again and I'll probably mix that with some barbell and dumbbell work maybe bench, overhead press and hip thrusts next time and then something tricep instead of biceps. I play with it to see what fits in my schedule. I'm a nanny so the band lunges and squats I do when the kids are eating breakfast or lunch and the rest I do at home (dead hangs on door way bar at another nanny job or the park if it's warm enough, that one isn't really on program it's just try to fit in when possible and don't overwork it).

    Great tips guys! I'm almost 60, always been fit, because of 40 years of competitive bicycle racing. I've tapered it down 90%, just don't do cardio as much. My problem is trying to build my legs and no matter how much I punish them, they are being stubborn? After 1 year of 3 days a week full body workouts, body looks good, except for my quads? I cannot do barbel squats (bad lower back), instead I concentrate on smith machine, hack squats, Bulgarian splits. All I'm getting is a lean looking quad and I'm looking for bulkier muscle.
    Please help!!
    Thanks for your time

    I can’t get my legs to grow substantially like my upper body. Over the course of a year/year and half, I went from 200lb squat to a 285lb squat (also greatly increasing weight lifted on other leg exercises) but they still, for the most part, looked the same. Didn’t stand out as much as my upper body

    This may be a dumb question but should we be doing progressive overload with this? I am about to do the shoulder program, and I see a lot of 3x10 exercises. Is it more important to stay at a weight where I can do 3x10? Or, should I increase the weight in the next workout of the same phase even though I may only be able to do 3x9 or possibly less?
