If you have a save from before the mission and want to go replay it without recording it and then just record the end. We'll all understand and be okay. In case you want that future for Miranda and her Sister.
If it makes it feel any better, there are a lot of legit reasons to go the direction you did. Miranda thinks staying away from her sister will help keep her safe, and keep her away from getting involved with her and cerberus. So it's not the happy ending, but you can justify it as sacrificing something with the intention to keep her safe.
That's the first time I've seen someone play that mission and get Miranda NOT to talk to her sister and make Oriana aware of Miranda's existence when you'd literally just had a conversation in the elevator about how her sister is all Miranda really has now 😆 interested to see what difference that choice makes to future dialogue with Miranda now, and Miranda's story overall, as I've legit never seen someone pick that option so am curious where it'll lead
I'm so curious too cuz omg if I had known we could make them talk y'all know I would've gone for that in a heartbeat!! Guess that's one of the incentives to play more than once right 😅
@renwraiths yep haha, part of the beauty of the Mass Effect franchise is that the story's never set in stone and that no two playthroughs are exactly the same, once you've finished it you can simply start all over again with different choices and get a whole new story. Anyways great videos and just glad you're loving the games!
The slavery situation on Illium is interesting. The difference between slavery and employment is consent. You can say the Quarians didn’t have a choice because of her debt, but one bit of information we are missing is could have defaulted on her loans or declare bankruptcy? Because if so, then it would seem she did have a choice, and chose this path because it opens up more opportunities down the line. Its really just an employment contract with a term built into the employment contract.
I get what you're saying and it definitely is very interesting! I just don't think anything is ever gonna convince me that indentured servitude is fine even with consent (however dubious) ya know? Even with a contract it still involves taking advantage of power dynamics and I just think it's all yucky!
One of my questions about this is can the Quarian quit and leave if she wants and what are the consequences for her doing so? For example if I get hired for a job and sign a contract I’m free to quit whenever I want, sure there are consequences like me losing money and not getting paid but I can still leave. I’m assuming the Quarian can’t just up and leave if she decides she’s not happy with her situation.
@@poluticon I wondered that too. I also wonder if she receives any higher learning while there. Many indentured servants, where the term was historically used, were apprentices. So you worked for someone for a certain length of time in order to learn a trade. But it sounds like she is already a skilled tech, so she is probably not getting any further education. It’s an interesting thought experiment, but all in all, I think I have the same opinion about it as Ren. There are too many unknowns for me to determine if it is a legitimate Avenue of social mobility, rather than just people taking advantage of the circumstances of others.
I've always sided with Miranda in taking Oriana away from her father since I first played the game back in 2010, but my perspective/understanding of the entire situation has evolved over time. Their father was - from Miranda's own words - not looking for a daughter but a dynasty, and trying to accomplish that through eugenics (very nasty business!). Oriana's entire life would have been in service of creating that dynasty and not actually for living on her own terms. Miranda knew that because that was her lived experience; she is a product of being forced to live her life for her "father's" sake. She didn't want that for Oriana at all, but especially not after she was able to live what seems to be a normal life for 19 years. Thanks again for these videos, Ren! Your playthrough has been such a joy to watch. Hope all is well with you!
You're so right and your perspective is so insightful. I was also thinking about the eugenics aspect of it as I was playing. It makes me so sad for Miranda that she's put in this situation and even has to make these decisions. I think the added layer of it involving her sister and Miranda's own lived experience makes it extra painful!! I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying!! And a massive thank you again for the birthday gift!! :)
@@renwraiths For sure! I think it says a lot about Miranda that she's taking it upon herself to do all this for Oriana despite her being unaware Miranda even exists. Miranda could have just been content with escaping that life for herself, but she knew what Oriana was going to have to deal with and put herself at even greater risk to do what she did. And you're very welcome! I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts when you get around to finishing the book! ☺
I dunno, I go back and forth on this one. It seems pretty petty if you think of it as Niket just betraying her because she didn't tell him something, but on the other hand, if he's the one who helped her escape in the first place, then that thing she didn't tell him was something he was doing. If he thought he was righting a terrible wrong he inadvertently did years ago because he was deceived, that seems a lot sadder. Not sure that's what's going on 'cos he took a big payout to do it, but still.
Yes that's such a good perspective!! The payout is what has me hung up too. I wanna believe he's not doing it out of purely spite but it sure does seem to point that way
@@renwraiths I think Niket is just a character that we didn't get enough interaction to assume his intentions. Seemed like he genuinely thought taking the baby was unjust, but it also could be for spite or payment. All we got was a short convo then boom he's dead, so we'll never really know.
Great to see another episode, Ren. Can't wait to see you progress through the game. Especially can't wait to see you interact with Thane more. The salarian breeding and family negotiations is definitely a cultural facet I wish was explored more. We see less of their society compared to other asari and turians. It is strongly linked to political dynasties and raises the uncomfortable parallels with human aristocratic history; but given salarian penchant for science, I'd be curious to see their cultural mores also reflect questions of bio-ethics - negotiating breeding rights based on desirable genetic traits, predictive models based on ancestral accomplishments. Intriguing, if disturbing concepts to explore in sci-fi that would suit salarians perfectly. And, in fact, when promoting the release of Legendary Edition, the developers specifically mentioned editing out some of the "accidental" butt close-ups on Miranda LOL. Interpret those editorial decisions how you will. It seems like every character in Mass Effect has some sort of daddy issue. I sympathize with Miranda and agree with you. Her loyalty mission certainly helps humanize her and give her some depth. To play devil's advocate, though: she is strong-willed and prideful, making her a potentially unreliable narrator to some degree. I agree that Niket shouldn't presume to know Miranda's personal information she doesn't wish to share. I don't know if it's fair to say he betrayed her. Niket helped Miranda with what she wanted for herself and never told the father what he knew about Miranda. Miranda's upset because Niket didn't passively go along with what Miranda wanted for Oriana. Whether we think Niket was right or a complete jerk or fool, he was also trying to do what he thought would help Oriana. I'm just spit balling. Could change my opinion tomorrow lol.
The reproductive negotiation thing is really based on the life span of Salarians, more than anything. They only live about 40 years at most, and don't really do romantic relationships. It's a societal thing with their race and is the norm for them.

It's ok if you don't like her, but the way it's written, it's pretty clear she's not doing it for her own ego. She was more than willing to stay out of Orianna's life completely to keep her safe as seen in this video. Surely, someone doing it for ego would need her sister to know she saved her. Also, she doesn't go silent after her mission in me3, she joins the war effort. Sure, she doesn't join the normandy, but neither did most of the characters because EA rushed the game.
