FIXED! Redcat Kaiju EXT | Control Arm & Turnbuckle Breakage Fixed

  • This has been the #1 complaint with this Kaiju EXT since it came out - the rear turnbuckles on the upper control arms break - rather easily.
    I have been doing some pondering and testing - and here is what I came up with!
    1) Provide a shock limiter.
    I used some 7/16 fuel line: amzn.to/3lm8wtE
    You could also use the rubber stoppers from this kit: amzn.to/3D3b7Pe
    Or the cheapest yet - the stock bump stops from an Axial Ryft: amzn.to/3Dbvv0F
    2) Use the front control arms (amzn.to/3oaSaGh) in place of the rear. Redcat has since stated that it is only the rear control arms that are the issue. Well - the fronts are the same design, just a little shorter. Put those back there and re-adjust your camber!
    After I do these mods - I take the truck out and BEAT on it to see if the control arm breaks!
    Get you a Kaiju directly from Redcat, here: www.redcatraci...
    The Socokin 4s lipo battery I used: amzn.to/3G0Qs0e

    Always use rubbers when going hard, basic safety! I mean with the Kaiju, get your mind out of the gutter.

    Excellent fix. I was gonna put tubing on inside because of so much travel. Makes sense long heavier chassis weight distribution and landing force with stress during compression. Tubing inside and out side might be the ticket. Real cars have what you would call a bump stop, large piece of rubber to limit suspension compression. Great job.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! I think tubing on the inside is also a smart choice. I didn't want to disassemble the shocks unless I had to though!

      @WhoopsieDoodIes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @jacob solis No they are the wrong size for the factory rear upper a-arms. 4 x 50mm is NOT the same size the the factory upper a-arms come with, they are too small and dont tread into the upper rear a-arms. I bought them and had to return them. Call Redcat and ask what size they are before buying aftermarket turnbuckles.

    I put Axial RBX10 orange bumpstops on mine. P/N AX1233021. Got two packs & they are 10mm long & very squishy. I put 2 on back making 20mm long & cut one in half & put one plus the cut one making 15mm on the front. It doesn't bottom out on the chassis now on landings & the dogbones don't grind on the diff cups. Much better! The rear was a little bouncey so I ran the rear shock adjusters down about 2 turns & it helped.

    • @332_RC
      @332_RC 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also the front had rubber bumpstops from factory kinda like the fuel line. They are 9mm long. Going to the Axial ones at 15mm was the trick! Better steering response.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Honestly - it has been a super solid car except for the rear upper control arm...
      Even then, a pack of two of the control arms is like $8 from my LHS.
      Throw some Lunsford turnbuckles at it, or swap for the $8 front control arms and it is fixed.
      I'm really surprised how people are letting such a small issue deter them.

    Hi roadside RC, do you know if redcat RC you fixed the issue in newer kaiju EXT’s. And in order to get the fuel line on the shock, did you take the shock apart or did you cut the fuel line and wrap it around?

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - Redcat issued a whole new part for the upper control arms on the EXT. I bet it is the only part you can buy now.
      For the fuel line, I unscrewed the shock rod end, slid the tubing on, then put the rod end back on.
      Hope that helps!

    Which is better to use? 10mm or 15mm tube for the shocks? Also, is it hard to set the mesh on the kaiju v2? M thinking of get 1.
