      Even if they did they were smart enough not to tell anyone because the line didn't move before his fight. The problem with Krause is that he told somebody that told EVERYBODY I mean the WHOLE TOWN and they all bet big money so even the house try to balance the odds the betters weren't bulging they contine to bet on Miner's opponent.

    I've had my differences with Ariel strictly in relation to fighters/fights however my respect for him has grown immensely for handling this like and adult. He dismantled both Dana and Paddy. Very disappointed in Paddy, definitely lost some fans after the pointless rant. Ariel keep up the good work! If Paddy is wise he will man up and apologise.

      Definitely not pointless. I have a strong feeling that was planned and setup by Dana to discredit the rumors that he under pays most fighters while showering his current pet. As someone who’s relatively new to the gambling aspects of MMA, I have 2 questions.
    1: Why is it illegal for a fighter’s family to bet on them? Obviously they could have insider info but it still comes down to fight night for any of that to come to fruition, right?
    2: How could they possibly enforce any sort of gambling by friends or family when all I have to do (theoretically) is tell someone not within my household to place my bet, and then cash their money and give it to me?

    • @MansterBear
      @MansterBear ปีที่แล้ว +9

      for number 1, I'd guess it's more about betting against them. For example, say TJ Dillashaw's family knew his shoulder had dislocated 20 times leading up to the fight and that it was likely going to dislocate in the fight, so they go bet against TJ. I def don't think fighters/coaches/family betting ON their fighter should be a problem. But for some reason, orgs see it differently (ie Pete Rose only bet for his own team to win and he's banned from the MLB Hall of Fame over it).

    • @TheTrueWelshIdiot
      @TheTrueWelshIdiot ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For 2, it depends on the odds and the wager. In the T&Cs of any gambling account, the bookmaker has the right to review and refuse the payout. They do it for things like the discovery of a glitch in a game (virtual slots). If a wager looks overly large or discrepant, they could review and investigate all associated bets.
      They probably wouldn't, but for a moneyline movement like that, they may.

    • @zekayman
      @zekayman ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's basically impossible to regulate. All they can do is mitigate the flow of insider info as much as possible.

    • @JeremyWashington1489
      @JeremyWashington1489 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@MansterBear I can explain why Pete betting on his own team was a problem. Even though he bet on his team to win in games, those bets affected other games. For instance, if it’s a normal game that you haven’t bet on that’s close, but you know you’re betting on the following nights game, you may withhold players from tonight’s lineup and sacrifice winning or a comeback because you want your players to be rested for the next days game, the one you’ve bet on. You’ve essentially made decisions you wouldn’t normally have made and sacrificed win/potential win so that you could win the bet the following day. At the time, Pete Rose was a player-manager, so a huge effect on who was in a lineup. And I’m saying this as someone who thinks Rose should be unbanned and let in the HOF. I don’t know enough about MMA to guess if it’s a similar situation with regard to betting on yourself to win.

      Fundamentally, prohibition doesn't work, whether it is alcohol, weed, prostitution or gambling; it usually makes things harder and more complicated than what they would've been on their own.
      That said, just as a thought exercise, what could be the worse thing that happened if there was no government "regulating" gambling?
      Would fights continue to happen? Would betting houses continue to exist?

    • @MightyJabroni
      @MightyJabroni ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, but that only goes so on so far. And if you bet big on some obscure props on a UFC prelim, it will not remain unnoticed for long. Also, all MMA betting markets outside of the UFC, and I'd say even within the UFC prelims, are very niche. That is why this funny business was detected so fast. It probably was far too much moeny coming in on a fight, that usually would command nowhere near as much attention.

    21:00 it does, oddsmakers can slash odds without accepting the bet once a big bet shows up on their radar. It's crazy to me how long this has went on without anyone putting a stop to it. You can wager as a coach on your own fighter but not against? WTF?? With the prop wagers now being so popular, I don't see any difference in an NFL coach betting on a receiver of his to catch a certain amount of passes or an NBA coach wagering on a player of his to score over a certain amount of points. Each scenario could easily be manipulated by that coach to achieve the over/under props to win that bet.

    This whole situation is messed up from all angles, in so many ways. I started betting on MMA, almost 8 years ago, I remember thinking how easy it would be to go to a local mma gym and train for insider info. Started doing jiu jitsu at ATT in Kansas City, funny enough, one of the guys I trained with, Jeff Molina, moved onto Glory, in Lee Summit, a suburb in Kansas City, where James Krause trains, then ended up in the UFC.
    It’s really sad to see whats happening. Krause is a name synonymous with mma in Kansas City. He really grew something special for local guys who want to make it to the big leagues, all that is being destroyed. Not sure where it goes from here, but the fact that every UFC fighter who trains out here will now have to move on, if they want to stay in the UFC, really sucks.
    I think there are so many issues with mma gambling. Ive always thought that, just because the sport is so transparent. There are so many gyms where UFC fighters train, where almost anyone can show up, and train with one of the fighters. One of the reasons Donald Cerrone left Jackson-wink. MMA gyms don’t make a-lot of money, they’ll let anyone show up, as long as they pay their dues. They need the money. That transparency alone, puts a lot of questions on mma gambling.
    Back to Krause though, I don’t think he should be the blame for all this, its been going on for a long time, on so many levels, Krause just shined a light on it. And if anyone thinks its over, it isn’t.
    The only way to save mma gambling is to end it. That being said, I think if mma gambling stays, this whole situation will clean it up, a little, which might be a good thing.

    One of the things I haven’t seen discussed relative to the gambling issue is fighter pay, if you start out making 14 to show and 14 to win and fighting twice per you’re in a financial position where you can be bought off for a relatively small amount and since there are 2 people in the competition you only need to get to one person for a guaranteed fix. Similar events have taken place in college basketball where one really impactful player (although it’s much safer to get multiple players in on it) can point shave and the players were uncompensated up until very recently

Think about how much money it would take to buy off enough important players on a football team to fix it, the guaranteed profit of betting a fix would be wiped out by that cost. Great coverage but a couple quick nits. First, sport books (especially Vegas) are not simply trying to make money off the vig. It's not uncommon for "Vegas" to be bullish or bearish on certain bets which essentially means they are gambling. Second, lines OFTEN and USUALLY move because of the bets coming in but that isn't always the case (see my first point). This is especially true if you're looking at an individual contest in a vacuum. Lastly, the defense of "I only bet on them to win" is a terrible defense. It's still a MASSIVE advantage. If someone with inside info only bets on his guys to win (when he does bet), we can assume he only bets when he feels good about the fight and his fighter's health. To put it another way, would you want to bet against someone who knows the injury report and you don't?

    We’ve seen this before in the fixed 1919 World Series. Low paid, disgruntled athletes took $ to fix the series because they were paid peanuts, hated the owners, and had nothing to lose . The Supreme Court predicted this.

    It's not gambling but this situation should revisit a light to be shined on the fact that the UFC knew both Vitor Belfort and Brock Lesner had popped for performance enhancers prior to their fights with Jon Jones and Mark Hunt. The UFC knowingly allowed these fighters to fight having information that was illegal, against their own code of conduct and could change the outcome of the fights. There is overwhelming evidence that the UFC allows fights or even nudges fights towards a particular outcome.

    This is nothing compared to the official scoring inconsistencies that fixes scoring on fights on Draftkings daily fantasy. Repeated issues week after week. Also, judging is insane and clearly fixed. So many insane decisions. Not to mention the referees are in on it. They let certain fights go and punches and control time add up for no reason when they fight is clearly over. Someone playing draftkings daily fantasy is in cahoots with referee Peterson.

    Ariel and Journalists can have just as much insider info as the guys in the locker room. Ariel has the scoops on fights, he talks and messages managers. Ariel and other journalist easily have more info on fighters than general public. So they should also not be able to bet . Draftkings isnt gonna sponsor this show for long. Ariel is trying to push on Dana so much but ariel talks about bets and bets himself with his crew. They can have insider info, ariel knows about fights before they are announced . Im not saying he or these guys did anything. I just find it funny he wants to act like he doesnt know what discord is. He asks krause how can people sign up for his betting picks and all that. If ariel wants to try to throw dana under the bus over and over after GC keeps saying that dana was correct and he agreed with dana , ariel would bring it up nearly 3 times GC had to say he agrees with dana. So ariel dont poke your nose so deep in this one because they can pull sponsorships and no more betting talks since ariel clearly has more info than the public. He talks with managers, fighters, knows things before they are annouced etc.

    How can you have all these gambling sponsors and expect no one to bet?
    Sounds like these rules should have been put in place before the gambling sponsors came in. Only problem with that is, the fighters would ask for money out of the deal and we all know the ufc ain’t parting with any of their sponsor money 😂
