    This was interesting, and very informative! I use Windows 10 File Explorer to organize my photos, and I see that Windows 11 has streamlined this a little bit - I like those new icons at the top rather than that busy bar in W10. I haven't gotten around to upgrading to 11 yet but I'll get around to it one of these days. On your recommendation, I've also installed Mylio, which I'm still in the process of getting familiar with. I recently got a photo scanner, and I'm going through the ongoing project of scanning my photos in. I scan in about 50 at a time, then organize them, then move on to the next batch. This system has been working pretty well. My main goal at this point is to get the photos scanned and organized, and I'll worry about any editing later, if at all.

      Hi Beth! So glad this was helpful! We have most of our computers in our office still on Windows 10 more now just because it’s working fine!! My personal one is now 11 and no problems!! Great job making progress on your photos!
      Thanks for watching!!

    Thank you, Molly. Your videos are incredibly informative and simple to understand. I have years and thousands of images to sort through, including images that I've downloaded from my devices over the years, and stored on my home computer(s) and portable disc drives. LOL I do have one question. Do you have a suggestion for bulk converting HEIC format photos to JPG. There are a lot of online free versions that I am hesitant to use because of downloading potential viruses and malware. But I do have a lot of iPhone images saved that need converting. Please advise. Thank you.

      You are welcome! We have used XNView MP and Adobe Bridge for converting HEIC files to jpgs. Here’s a video for XNView: th-cam.com/users/liveAvayodJli5g?si=5ahbC6Sa4Uumjtnh

      Hi there - File Explorer does allow for editing the metadata either in the Properties window of a photo or in the Details pane. Where are you seeing it not allow editing the metadata? Happy to help if I can know a little bit more.

    I am using windows 11 and need a way to reduce the file sizes that are 6mb for each photo as a result of using a particular scanning company. I can see some of your scans are less than 200kb. I may keep the originals at the larger sizes on my laptop, but I will run out of storage in Forever pretty quickly. I'd like to know if you think it's a good idea and what would you do and how to do it. Thanks.

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Mary - Thanks for watching! Some of my scans were done many years ago and the file sizes are less than ideal. I recommend that people have photos between 1 and 4mb for preservation purposes.
      If you wish to reduce the files sizes, you could use Adobe Bridge (may require a subscription) or here's a software from XNView - called XNResize. I have not tested this but we routinely recommend XNView for batch renaming and converting photos.

    Thank you for your videos. I'm going through the process of scanning some old photos. I do have a question on tagging. I wonder if it would be a video you could do. Firstly if I find a name I've tagged being suggested a few ways because I've made a spelling error or used both maiden and married surnames how can I edit this? My other question is how do you actually search for tag? I tried and sometimes it only brings up folders including that name. How do you make I include files and can you search two tags together to find photos of couples for example? Apologise if you have this is a previous video. If so could you point me to it. Thank you. Xx

      Hi Jay… thanks for watching and posting this question. Editing tags in photo programs is easier. We are working on a video to demonstrate this… I don’t think there is an easy way to do it. You are only using File Explorer to edit and work with your photos?

      Hi @@Pixologie Yes I'm only using file explorer on an internal hard drive just for our photos. My hubby and I share a PC and its his Microsoft account so I didn't want to mix up our family photos with his work photos and one drive storage? Is there away around that? I'm guessing it would be to pay for my own Microsoft storage account?
      Manty thanks for your reply. Will look forward to the tagging video.

    My challenge is re-ordering photos in a file, in windows 11 file explorer. Is adding a number at the beginning of a file name the only way? Google Drive and photos lets you drag photos to any order. MB

      Hi there - I use Adobe Bridge to move photos around and rename them. . . Check this video out: th-cam.com/video/Vx9ORQyihL8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=H61vrzOoBrduZCF5
      Hoping this helps! You have to install Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Bridge but then Adobe Bridge - the features we need - is free to use.

    Hi, question. I use File Explorer and have been 'Favoriting' or 'staring' photos, so that I can find them easier for a project. Only now I can not find them anywhere.

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Audra - When in File Explorer, select the Details view. Then add the Rating column. (Right click on the details row headers and you should see Rating.) Then you can click on the Rating column to sort by rating. Unfortunately, you cannot add ratings anymore.
      From Microsoft's Website: Windows 11 can no longer rate files, and you may need to find new ways to categorize your files. Unfortunately, it has affected your usage habits, but we cannot provide a solution at this time.
      Very frustrating. I wish I could be of more help. I upload my photos to Forever.com and then use the heart to favorite my photos there. Here's a page to learn more about the company and why we sell it at Pixologie: www.thepixplan.com/FOREVER-Permanent-Storage
      I wish you the best!

    Your video was very informative. The one thing I am having trouble finding is how to rearrange photos within a folder. I am trying to make a slideshow of a trip made with friends and can't get them arranged in event sequence. Is it not possible in Windows 11 Photos?

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi - have you added the date taken column? And, then sort by date taken? This is assuming the photo metadata is correct.
      Sometimes, we use Adobe Bridge to rearrange photos and then rename them in order. Here's a video on that:
      th-cam.com/video/Vx9ORQyihL8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jC4JxEOTsyOlS_qh
      How are you making the slideshow?

      @@Pixologie Yes I added the date taken column and then sorted by date taken. There are many without a date which I think are some of the ones I received from my friends.
      In going through the above video again I noticed that while in the detail pane and hovering my cursor over the dates I do not get the box like what is shown on your video, so I was not able to change the date or time. In Pictures I can change it but doing so doesn't seem to rearrange the picture, just changes the date and/or time.
      I was wanting to use the Slideshow feature to show friends our trip but it was a very disconnected presentation of our adventures.
      I watched the link. I have sort of done that kind of labeling to organize pictures but I think I'll try to use your formula which is more precise.
      Thank you for your helpful, easy to follow videos....just wish our personal computers followed what you are showing.

    Question. Some of my photos in Photos windows 11 are blurry, really blurry and they were not when I took them. So what happened? It's driving me crazy nuts! Cannot figure it out at all. Im learning from your videos on how to sort photos, but I mind are all mixed up but are classed at their date taken. I want to separate into names and places etc. But some are blurry!

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Sara… so sorry to hear this… where did these photos come from? Your phone? Do you still have them somewhere else? I’m not sure what could cause them to be blurry. Are they pixilated blurry?

    • @sarab1987
      @sarab1987 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I took them with my camera Sony DHC H50. Problem is they were fine when I loaded them into my computer several years ago. Now they are extremely pixilated when viewing them at a normal size in Photos on Windows 11. When I try to print them they turn into very clear thumbnail size photos. I don't know what I did or didn't do for them to be this way. Now that I am retired I wanted to get busy sorting and printing....Grandkids and special occasions. It's driving me crazy. I haven't worked with photos since early on Windows 10 so I'm really out of practice, hence your videos, maybe my age is catching up to me because I used to understand things better and finding answers was much easier🤨@@Pixologie
