Even though I know File Explorer is a little clunky, that's how I've chosen to organize my photos, as I'm very familiar with folder structure in my past life before I retired, and it's easy for me to navigate. My ongoing project is organizing my boxes of old photos, and as I've commented on another of your videos, my goal right now is not editing, but just organizing. This video has been extremely helpful to me, and I've gone back to it several times. I also like your Master Class videos, but this one is great for specific things to get me started on the right foot.
I installed a 1TB storage drive in my desktop computer and plan on organizing my Photos, this is so helpful, I know now it will take some time, but I plan to use your date folder formula!
Fantastic to hear you've upgraded to a 1TB storage drive! Organizing your photos with our folder formula is a great way to keep everything tidy. Good luck!
Hi there - Certainly you can use the folder tree in the navigation pane… however I often am comparing things from one folder to the other, and like to have the visual of two folders open. Also, occasionally the pictures can be dropped in the wrong folder that way, but control Z will undo it. As long as you have a system that works for you, that’s the important thing. Cheers! Mollie
I’m finding your videos really helpful thanks. I’m a bit stuck with transferring my thousands of photos from my iPhone though. Do you think the heic format will be future proof? It seems to be a bigger file size when I copy them to my windows laptop than a jpg? I’m unsure whether to download in compatible or original.
Hi there - Thanks so much for watching! I just can't say that the HEIC format is future proof. . . it is Apple's format and I have seen that Google Photos recognizes the format. . . so maybe future proof? But HEIC files are not compatible in some uses. It is supposed to be a smaller size than the JPG so that would be odd. I have been recommending people transfer in the compatible format. I hope this helps! Cheers! Mollie
@@Pixologie thanks for your reply Mollie, I’m going to try and save them in jpeg. I’ve stumbled across an article where it says to save into the files on my iPhone which automatically converts to jpeg and this seems to preserve the file size. They were definitely downloading much smaller file sizes from iCloud to my windows laptop. I’m hoping I can then download from my iCloud files to my laptop. A bit of a pain but worth it to get the full resolution I think?! Thanks Louise
Hi John Doe! That’s the hard part about relying on something to do the copying for you… going back and figuring out what might be missing. Could be challenging! Thanks for watching! Cheers! Mollie
Hi Molly, thank you for this video on file explorer. Well done and easy to follow and understand. I am having a problem uploading my photos into my windows 11. I would like to speak with you.
I have recently upgraded to Win 11. I have many Folders, sub Folders. I file all day long!!! I am completely at a loss with the Drop Down Menu I have been using for 30 years. Can you please assist.
I'd like to be able to put a folder in with my picture files in Windows Explorer, so I can drag and drop selected pics into that folder. I can do that on my old computer with Windows XP, but not with a new one that's running Windows 10, and it seems like it should be a simple thing to do. :(

you are very knowledgeable but your screechy voice is so annoying and makes listening hard to do. I can only listen a few minutes at a time. Please work on making your voice smooth for listeners.
Hi Diane - thank you so much for the feedback. I always appreciate constructive criticism and will definitely endeavor to have a more modulated delivery. Cheers! Mollie
That's rude. Her voice is fine. As a matter of fact, I enjoy her accent as it's different from my Coloradoan one and I like hearing how some words are pronounced differently than I'm used to.
this has been amazingly helpful especially with the naming the files. Looking forward to viewing all of your videos!
Glad to hear it!! We are happy to be a resource!

Great video!!
Thank you so much!! 😃
Is there a reason to not just use the tree at the left when you are moving pictures and folders around instead of a second window?
