Thank you for your truth...when you cringed...I was right there with you. I "lost" 36,000 pics on a hard drive crash. Took 6 months and $$$$ and have 85% photos back for the Data retrieval people. I have photos in many devices. This is my new job. Baby steps. Thank you again for your wisdom.
Hi Nylaa - Thanks so much for watching! Good luck! I do have a full class on organizing all your memories coming next week if you are interested: us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZItduigqT8sGtQcclN0KpI5txGDsApme3Kr#/registration Cheers! Mollie
I’m doing this now! My mom was so great at taking pictures, putting albums together, categorizing everything. She also did genealogy so I’ve got about 20 three ring binders of that! Be that as it may, none of my kids want the older pictures or genealogy. So I made three boxes, one for each adult kid and they can decide what to do with them. I’ve been going through all of these pictures and binders for about five years and am seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. I think……..thanks for your ideas!
All these things that happened to you with technology is why I don’t want to put my photos on technology. Technology also changes all the time and then you lose access because of that reason. I’ve had it happened to me over and over again.
I've lost so many photos because of technology issues. So now I'm in the process of printing all of my digital photos and getting them put into albums and labeled. I have some photos of my Great grandparents from over 100 years ago and that got me thinking that paper is the way to go. There is no way that in 100 years my Great grandchildren will be able to access my photos that are on the cloud or a hard drive.
Hi Janet - I am so sorry to hear of your experience. It's crazy how hard it all is. My goal is to actually have a photo book with my best pictures each year. (Although, I only have about four year books done for the past 23 years that I have had children!) I do love using folders on my computer and then using FOREVER for easy sharing and viewing today. Between all of that, I am optimistic my future generations will have something to look at and know about our family. Here's my calendar link: www.calendly.com/mollieb/forever if you'd want to chat! Cheers! Mollie
Great post. Thank you for sharing.❤ Is there a great system to help organize photos? I did scan old negatives to my computer/laptop but worry that it’s not safe…like you mentioned I radically need help to sort through all that. Will click the link.
It's fun to look back. BUT how much do we need to keep? that where age and wisdom come in...lol! Enjoy your travel pictures now. Save your lifetime Highlight pics in a album, know the difference.
Hi Lucky Jim! Thank you for commenting! I think some people do enjoy, looking at travel pictures later in life as well… But those photos definitely are not as much of interest to future generations. Unless they are traveling to the same places. Cheers! Mollie
We need the photo industry to include date and location on the photo as a standard. This was a technology of the 1980s that went away. This standard should be:1) discrete on the photo or maybe a toggle switch that can be turned off if you don't want it. If it is not on the photo, it is useless. 2) Standard should be applicable to scanned photos that were not originally digital. 3) Sequence should be a breeze if photos can be sorted by the dates on the photo (not on the photo file, it needs to be visible when you are looking at the photos).4) Information on the photo should be editable
A great video on a topic people think isn't complicated, but is!
Thank you so much for this!
Cheers!
