Gaint looking Smelt run in Castle Rock, WA on Cowlitz River 2013.

Seen on you tube that the Smelt were running, Thanks. So I took the family to see them running. They all looked like they where good size. And a great run size too. Hope some day we can start netting them. They sure make a great meal. The wife was saying she would love to get some, so was are daughter.

The last time I seen smelt run in Michigan I was her age!!! B thankful your kid gets to see that I miss the smelt and salmon huge part of my childhood that my kids will never see as children!!! Great video get some footage of dipping!! Would love that!! HH....GL

I used to have great luck up on the plate river in Michigan with my Dad and brother's ;) A way to drive but we always brought home a station wagon full of 5 gallon pails of smelt so we could have them more then just for dinner that day ;) ;) Drake's batter is the way we cooked them up YUM YUM ;) ;)

I remember 35yrs. ago my grandpa taking us kids to the mouth of the Rogue river(gold beach oregon) & snagging for the smelt. Out on the jeti, he would put 5-10 snagging hooks on the fishing pole and sometimes have a fish on every hook, so long ago.
