    I’ve never seen a Viking ship I didn’t like. They all look elegant. Thanks for great night-time video.

    I rode the underside of the bridge in 1982 with a friend. It was fairly easy back in the day to crawl into the underbelly of the bridge. About halfway up we looked up and saw shoes and a stern voice telling us the police were waiting for us when we the bridge got back down and not to fall. We didn’t fall and there were no cops there but it was a ride I’ll never forget and never encourage anyone to try.

      Years ago, for a short time they would let you ride up and down the bridge, then the lawyers descended and put a stop to the ride.

    I guess I never realized the bridge had a synchronized light with it's horn, at least at night. Then again, most videos don't show the bridge during a salute. Our buddy One Long, Two Short posted the radio traffic of the Vista Star today also. Incredible there were not more injured. AIS past track showed the vessel had turned away from the breakwater but got driven into it by wind and waves. Luckily the hull was not compromised.

    Don't know if anyone here has ever checked the cost of Viking cruises, but the Great Lakes cruise starts at $14,000.

    • @jonathanellsworth21
      @jonathanellsworth21  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They have some cheaper ones (still by no means cheap!) but yeah this particular cruise was indeed 14,000 per ticket minimum. She’s a small cruise ship, basically a public yacht. Drives the price up pretty quickly

    The way the whitecaps are rolling in on the break wall it's not hard to see how the Vista Star got into some trouble. I watched an interview with a passenger on Northern News Now saying the Cap and crew were negligent and didn't have any safety protocol in place so I'd imagine it's a matter of time before the lawsuits get filed. People can't be satisfied that they survive with minor injuries. This beauty probably cut right through those seas. she's a fine looking ship.

    Is anyone ever been on the bridge when it goes up?

    • @jonathanellsworth21
      @jonathanellsworth21  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They used to allow people to go up with the bridge until the 70s or 80s, then they closed it off while lifting. Now days it’s completely covered in cameras so people can’t try to sneak a ride. Only the bridge operators, maintenance workers and the extremely rare special guest get to go up on it now. They’ve been advertising for a walkway improvement project recently though, I’m hoping they can maybe install a glassed in passenger area when doing that (one can always dream lol)

      FYI some years ago a poor handicapped fellow was on the bridge as it started going up, panicked and was decapitated. Unless they build an enclosed lockable capsule I doubt they're ever going to let anyone on again.

      I saw a few around but nowhere near as many as normal. It was around 10:30-10:40 at night and they were docking in Thunder Bay at 6am so a lot of people were probably asleep. Plus this was the day of the big software crash that shut down a lot of airlines, so a lot of passengers could have been stranded

      Viking attracts an older clientele! I’m 51 and closed out the bar one night around 10:30pm with a few “older” friends. No late night parties or casinos like the big Caribbean boats! My spouse and I were 4th and 5th youngest out of 360 passengers 😂
