There’s a lot of pressure to be thin in Hollywood, but sometimes movie roles require stars go the extra mile by embarking on extreme diets in order to enhance their weight loss. Joaquin Phoenix had to shed fifty pounds in order to play Arthur Fleck in Joker but it caused a little problem during filming. Chris Pratt was three hundred pounds at his heaviest and now he can’t stop talking about his workouts on social media. Lily Collins battled an eating disorder in real life so shedding pounds for a part was an especially arduous task. Timothee Chalamet was already slender before he went past the point where his family became concerned for his health. Chrissy Metz struggled with her weight her whole life until This Is Us motivated her to make some changes. Chris Hemsworth went from showing off his abs to showing off his ribs, and Adam Driver was so hungry at one point he could barely think. Running not only changed Jillian Bell’s outlook on herself but it had a big impact on her waistline as well. Christian Bale is known for changing himself dramatically, but there’s a reason he says that part of his career is over.

Lily Collins legit didn't have to lose any weight. The film team said she didn't have to. She made the choice on her own to portray the character more authentically.
As someome with an eating disorder, her weightloss just looked like a victory lap for her disorder. Its kind of hard to explain .. Glad shes healthier now

Yes! I saw the interview with the director of the film. He specifically told lily that she didn't have to lose any weight because they're gonna use editing afterwards instead. But she decided to lose some still so that she could portray the character better...
She probably was using it as an excuse to go back to her old ways in the name of "acting" idk
No actor is forced to loose weight. They accept a contract which tells them to do these certain things, no one is forcing them to sign it.

When portraying someone who's anorexic, they should use editing. Especially when the actor has a history of an eating disorder. That's just dangerous to force them to actually drop the weight.

I struggle with Anorexia i could never do a film after i recovered for years it would be so triggering and feel like i lost everything. Lily is truly so strong and amazing 💖🙁

"To the bone" is a movie that everyone must watch in today's time where people are obsessed with weight and calorie intake. I could relate to it for some extend. I had and still don't have a good relationship with food, but my parents help me so I am better. This movie reminds me of my teenage years mostly, I never knew how thin I was and the way I hated food. Also a lot of my frnds who had same issues, including my bestfriend who fainted occassionally. The movie is amazing in showing the helplessness, stubbornness etc. It really helped me see things different for real !!
Still you have to handle this movie with caution. It really supports the stereotypical picture of people with eating disorders having to be very thin in order to be valid. Also it can be very triggering, I know quite a few people including me who used to watch this movie religiously as a kind of thinspo and seeing lily Collins as a role model
@@Lili-fw9co that's right too! Especially the calorie counting and vomiting back or just the beautiful lily Colins, we tend to compare a lot. So yes, it could be triggering for some.
@@Lili-fw9co yes! it really does only show the stereotypical eating disorder. there’s more to eating disorders than just appearing unnaturally skinny, calorie counting etc. it’s also how people think and their habits- they may not even be underweight. that’s something i don’t like about to the bone. nonetheless, i somewhat enjoy it anyway

Getting rid of fried food does not mean getting rid of carbs. It means getting rid of fat... Potato is good for you. Fries are not.
Eh, potatoes don't have _that_ much nutritional value. Native potatoes before commercial agriculture, genetic modification, and growth manipulation had way more. What they do contain now, can easily be obtained from another non starchy food with much more nutrition. I'll say they aren't bad for you. But I wouldn't say they are good for you either. Just a mediocre food source; one can take it or leave it 🤷

Getting rid of carbs if you're on a long-term diet is a bad idea but people who have to lose weight in a really short amount of time will usually see the most result if they cut carbs out of their diet entirely.

No Tracey gold filmed for the love of Nancy but they filmed her anorexic scenes when she was in recovery and the before scenes were filmed after her recovery. She didn't lose weight for the film. Lily never really regained her weight.

He actually did gain some weight. Nothing like the suit he was wearing, but several pounds, and he said he didn't have any muscle definition at that point. I believe it was for a different role, they just incorporated it in instead of giving Thor sleeves.

I'm glad she had supervision allegedly but imo there's no way for anyone to lose weight to an emaciated level healthily, especially not someone who has struggled with anorexia.

They are not forced to lose weight, they audition for the role and the character they want to interpret might need to be skinny. It is their choice whether they lose weight or don't.

Lilly Collins was not "forced" to lose weight. They did offer her options for being able to make her look skinny using CGI or lighting tricks, but she said that she wanted to lose the weight in real life so the filming could be more authentic. This was a brave thing for her to do given her past, but it was her choice.
They used special effects in to the bone,lily lost weight but they additionally added the look of pale skin,sunken eyes,collar bones, they also added shadowing and editing certain parts of her body etc...my friend worked on the set.

Matt Damin played a heroine addicted veteran in Courage Under Fire. He wasn't quite "Matt Damon" yet so he wasn't given a nutritionist by the studio. He ate only boiled chicken and lost 60 lbs. His character begins the film at 200lbs but when he returned to set 3 months later to film, apparently the crew were aghast and totally shocked by his appearance. He still calls it the hardest thing he has ever done. 60 lbs in 3 months, without any professional help. Nuts.
You guys ever seen the Crucible? When I saw them in the movie I knew they had to drop a lot of weight, I looked up the characters.......the difference was wow.
