Thanks Sam. You give me some encouragement with your approach. I just picked up a 2000 Astro AWD and replaced the tensioner that had a failed spring and the belt. No more squeal. I'm not losing any coolant to speak of but it looks like a little seeps out from where that pipe on the top right meets the main body of the pump.
Thanks Sam. Did you think about extending the length of your crescent wrench with a tube? Instead of hitting the crescent with a pipe, you might have got a pipe with enough width to fit over the handle of the crescent, thereby easing the amount of torque necessary to remove the bolt on the fan?
never mind the special stuff. Use whats at hand. Creativity .I used a crescent wrench and a large spike and hammer. I had taken off the belt before hand too.I have a hole in the pully thats on the side.I placed the spike that just fit into it and turned the pulley until the spike came to a stop on an item that wouldn't get damaged.I placed the crescent wrench on the back of the clutch fan nut and wacked it .It came loose with no troubles.thus saving me time and money.
+Junk works DIY GarageIts a pair of large flat wrenches -one fits around the 4 fan bolts the other fits the big nut. I did a ford aerostar waterpump and without these wrenches you cant do the job

You need a spanner wrench for the fan pulley and it’s easy

the problem wasn't the torque i couldn't get the belt tight enough to stop slipping so i used the shock of hitting it with the pipe to break it loose
