I knew that under all this whiskey, you had a heart of gold. Thank you for the help to the Greyhounds shelter. As an animal volunteer myself, who spent more than 15 years in dog shelters, I couldn't be more happy to hear that. Now, it's officially my favorite channel.
It really became sad when superheros stopped representing timeless messages and became vessels for current issues. It cuts their longevity and how people look back on them, I don't think many of the later superhero films will age that gracefully.
And you can thank Hollywood for infesting comics in 2009 and brining their escalation policy (Every action movie has to have higher and higher stakes or else...) to them, along with their inane political screeds based on a life with no hardships.
@@justsomeguywholovesberserk6375 In the original comics, She Hulk broke the fourth wall while being sexy, sassy and funny. But we can't have that now can't we?! No! That'll rile modern feminists.
Don't be silly - superheroes have ALWAYS been vessels for current issues. Reference Superman from the 50's promoting racial equality and harmony, or 70's superheroes promoting ecology or civic-mindedness. The only problem is bad writing, and polarized audiences that wring their hands if the film isn't promoting "their" message. Whether it's people on the left lamenting overt nationalism, or people on the right whining about "woke" if one character is gay, those aren't issues a movie can fix.
In my retirement I volunteer at the local animal shelter twice a week. Very impressed with your effort here, of the various slogans I've seen at the shelter my favorite is one I saw just recently "Adopting a rescue animal won't change the world. It will change the animal's world." Good man.
Well said. Many folks speak broadly about "saving the [insert animal type here]", but underestimate what it means for a single pupper to gain a loving family.
I recently watched Constantine (2005) for the first time in my life. It had more style and heart than most action superhero movies in the last decade. The hero is fully human, relying on shady deals with demons and angels, and fights using wits, precarious magic, and sacred guns. No one is necessarily good, but the humans are trying their best. It isn't perfect, but it is the only superhero movie that makes me want to read the comic books.
@@larsschulze2799 I found a lot of The Critical Drinker's criticisms to not be prominent in the movie. I also really enjoyed the movie. So, if you want a superhero movie that doesn't follow the oversaturated modern formula, here's a recommendation. Have a nice day 😁. PS It's based on the DC comic, Hellblazer.
Good for you Drinker. My Sister adopted a Greyhound in Australia. The industry has come under fire for the numerous cruel and unusual treatment these dogs go through. All the best in your endeavours and thanks for spreading awareness regarding this amazing breed of dogs.
Yes, it's a shame that the world can't (refuses to) recognise the suffering that other animals go through (cows, sheep, chicken, fish etc). We're too busy being kind to pets that we forget about the rest.
We adopted one from a track in Minnesota. He was retired because he was “too slow”. The only thing he was slow at was getting off his own couch. Yes, he had his own couch! He was the nicest dog and when I see the critical doggos, I think of Blaze who set the record on the number of sleeping positions. Thanks for bringing attention to these dogs who make really great pets!
I've watched all your videos Drinker, often with my rescue hound listening. Thanks for bringing awareness to greyhounds. They are the most awesome dogs and the fact that you are using your platform and that you have two, is a testament to your character. Tonight, i'll be buying a plushy and drinking a whisky on the couch, scratching my hounds ears and saluting you.
As a dog lover, I strongly approve of the drinker's use of time to get awareness and assistance fornthe doggo rescue center. Good work me boy, good work.
Well said, Critical Drinker. Despite all the superhero movies in the last couple of years, Endgame still feels like a genuine ending to the genre. With Spiderman: No-Way Home and Guardians 3, it feels more like closure films for Marvel. And beyond that is just a barren wasteland.....
Honestly thank you for rescuing your greyhounds and advertising for more of them to go to new families who will love them. Just hearing what so many of them unfortunately go through is just awful and they deserve to be as happy as yours are. I hope we can make a huge profit for this organization.
I started watching your videos with your spot on assessment of Dark Phoenix as the film which killed the X-Men movie franchise. I've been a die hard fan of yours ever since. However, throwing in a link to support a dog rescue site put you over the top for me, puts you right into super hero status. Well done, young lad.
Out of that long sad list of legitimate reasons for the genre’s fall, the most despicable by far is the attacks against fans. Any industry that mocks and insults the customer absolutely deserves failure. This one factor, all on it’s own, would have earned them collapse and massive financial loss. All the other factors simply conspired to ensure they got what they deserved.
You don't bite the hand that feeds... yet. They just overestimated how well their brainwashing had worked. They will try again in the future and probably succeed. Just look at zoomers defending the billion dollar corporations that shaft them up the ass with their products as they call the paying customer entitled.
I've never heard a company think to themselves "how can I make less money?" But marvel, dc and disney seem to be making it priority number 1 to go bust while angering anyone that cared about them
"Out of that long sad list of legitimate reasons for the genre’s fall, the most despicable by far is the attacks against fans. they just need to stop listening to the 'woke' karen's of the world. we did great before all this social media crap. worked fine for generations, most of the stuff being made probably would have been fine, always was in the past. but now you have 5 people saying it's terrible that snowball somehow into 500K just because they were heard. so the studio listens to the wrong opinion, get's it wrong tries to say your fault that we rewrote our movie, and the same people 5 people would saying sht like they should have never changed it. what are they supposed to do. half the time the people making the posts, causing the riots to change the movies, gender flips, race, things like this aren't even goin to watch what ever they are just offended for what ever reason.. why do we care ....... best option i would say is stop listening and go back to making what you feel is a good movie. it worked well in the past. ignore opinion make what you think would be a good movie fuk the rest and i'm sure we can get this industry turned back around.
Back during the 80s, we took in a retired racing greyhound as well. He was already entering his twilight years, and also he'd broken his leg at some point on the past - so while the injury had fully healed and didn't cause him any pain (which will become relevant a bit further down), his racing days were well and truly over. But that was one of the sweetest dogs my family ever had (and we had quite a few during those years, always one at a time). One day, we took him along as we went to a dog racing ground (my uncle, one seeing our greyhound, had promptly gotten two of his own, and wanted to see what they could do). You should've seen him perk up when he saw all the other dogs racing. He looked so excited, we decided to let him have a run (as I said above, his leg was fully healed by that time). He actually came in second in that final race of his career :)
@@namantherockstaryou have your own original music and still decide to do this bot stuff? What a loser. Guess whose never going to make a career off their music?
This is beautiful man. As a fellow adopter of 4 Greys over the years, I sometimes feel like they don't get the love they deserve and get overlooked on favour of more traditional dogs, without people realising what excellent companions they make. So, kudos to you Drinker, for helping raise the profile of hands down, the most magical breed of dog in all of the lands.
The only problem with adopting animals is where they came from. Now retired racing dogs fine, retire fighting dogs fuck NO. That's how I lost my dog, to an asshole that assumed they can "fix" a trained killing machine later in life. Arrogant pricks will get theirs, I see that animal that killed mine and I will off it out of self-defense if it approaches me ever, period. Territorial animals like that do not let go of their training. Take it from me, go for the retired racers than the cold blooded underground of fighting animals Did you know that shit is fucking illegal? Did you know it all came from Bear Fighting way back when Queen Elizabeth had to take that down herself? Animals like that do not retire ever, they just get complacent as beasts and then kill again when it suits them, yeah how's that for effing GD fair? This was a court case but then the Judges threw it out. MF I'll get his animal and then see how he likes it MF Fair is FAir, don't obstruct the law and just do your MF job. Don't even bother with fighting animals they are not worth it they cause even more pain and suffering over what, "I can fix it"? My arse you can, fix nature and then come talk to me. Nature'd kill you just for abuse of its bountiful providing's.
My family have pretty much always had retired racing greyhounds and they make absolutely brilliant pets, I think part of the problem is that people always think 'oh, a racing dog? Must need loads of exercise' and they just don't. Greyhounds are actually very low maintenance in that regard. 2 meals a day and a half hour walk is usually enough for them, as long as they have a comfy bed and some company, they're happy
Awwwwwww damn! I didn't know this fact. I've had 3 greys. They're totally human soul dogs. I have a soft spot for those dogs. You'd think they'd be very hyper crazy animals, but they're more like giant cats. As docile as breeds come! 😅 If you can get a young one, it'll be better, but the 3 or 4 year old ones don't stick around long enough to, but no dog ever does. Bone cancer is very prominent in the breed which can be detrimental. But they're super sweet great dogs! ❤
I was so afraid he was going to say the critical doggo had passed away, so glad they’re okay and he’s doing such a nice thing to help out the shelters. ❤️
Same freakin here. Though in hindsight I feel like he would probably go about that differently but that slow pan and zoom into the critical doggo was frightening
I was already a big fan Drinker but needless to say that your selfless efforts to help out an animal shelter has turned you into a true hero in my book 🙌
The best part of movies in the 80's was Hollywood's willingness to take risks. From killer clowns to Conan and everything in between. It was a good time to be a movie lover
80's was indeed the peak of movies. I don't even think people got tired of action movies, as the action movies just turned more dark, edgy and serious until they weren't as fun anymore.
Oh let it not be said that modern Hollywood can't take risks. They were willing to bet the farm on identity politics and pandering to a few extreme minority groups and political elites over tried and tested success formulas. That was a pretty radical move. Deeply unprofitable, but radical all the same.
Hollywood, like many businesses, seems to have said, "If people liked superhero movies, they'll love a constant inundation of superhero movies, television shows, books, comics, and all adjacent entertainment." If they had kept things down to a couple of movies a year, they might have kept their golden goose on life support. Especially if a slower pace might have given them time to actually figure out how pieces fit together, their CGI teams time to work, and generally kept up a higher standard. It's no great surprise to discover at this point that audiences want something else.
2023 is a good year for cinema lovers because, finally, virtually every overproduced poorly written and executed blockbuster flops hard. Which means one thing: changes are imminent.
Cost of living is the main reason for this. Changing formulas or pushing over types of films are not going to get people out of their homes and away from the subscription services, to go to the costly cinema.
We’ll be adopting 1 or 2 greyhounds when we get settled down in the UK next year. Thanks for introducing us to them. Really wouldn’t have known they were such chilled out dogs if you hadn’t mentioned it
I couldn't agree with you more Drinker on the analysis of the superhero movie downfall. And much gratitude and respect for your shoutout to your two doggos and the support for the Greyhound rescue center 👏
Great video as usual, but the best part about this for me was pushing the Greyhound rescue at the end. I’m so stoked with use your platform for a course like this.
I think it will be good for Dune 2 cuz it's the only movie which can bring people into the cinemas. It's something unique with a decent cast that people like and a director who cares
All valid points. For me personally, it was the attacks on the fans. The people that have waited, sometimes for decades, to see these stories brought to the screen. People that merely wanted the lore and canon respected. Instead, ideologues with their agendas, and shit writing, that rarely if ever even enjoyed or participated in these franchises decided to double and triple down on attacks on the fan bases to the point...most of us have tucked our wallets in our pockets, and dropped out of even caring at this point
"What used to be an exciting event to be savored has become a dull chore simply to be gotten through out of obligation, rather than genuine desire or interest." Truer words have never been spoken about what it feels like to be a Marvel fan since Endgame.
In the leadup to Infinity War, me and my dad used to get together and go see every Marvel movie that came out. We haven't gone to see one since Endgame, neither of us really cares anymore. Nowadays we watch old Godzilla movies at home.
@@AkuTenshiiZeroNice. I gotta start watching a few old Godzilla movies. I bought the pinball machine based on em which uses footage from em but I can't say I can ever remember watching one. I like cheesy old Japenese Samurai and monster movies though. I've seen most of the Lone wolf and cub/ baby cart movies and quite a few Gamera, the Godzilla sized turtle movies, but no old Godzillas. And I see there's a new Godzilla movie from Toho studios coming out soon. Godzilla minus one. From the preview it looks like it's gunna be friggin awesome!!
End game is what it had all been building up to and as the name suggests that was the end......Or at least it should of been. Like a TV show that only has 4 seasons and a story line that works towards an ending and then actually ends. They're great. But of course Hollywood can't let go of their money printing machines go no matter how old and broken they're getting. They can't just let something die gracefully. Just pull the bloody life support plug already ffs. 🤷♂🤦♂
That’s awesome Will, I’m not surprised but happy to see you do something for your local rescue. I’ve worked with rescues as a trainer in the past, helping rehabilitate a lot of traumatized dogs and most rescues really do need the help. Love your content and work and I look forward to reading your book very soon
I remember watching the Raimi Spiderman films when I was young, specifically Spiderman 2. I wished for all the heroes I liked - Batman, Superman, Hulk, Wonder Woman, Captain America - to get a film like that. I was born at the right time to see superhero films that taught good life lessons, stood for timeless truths and inspired people. But sadly, as I grew to an adult, that dream no longer become feasible. Now, it is dead. Well done, WB and Disney/Marvel. Well done.
"You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain." It's amazing just how timeless that quote has become. Even in regards to the actual genre.
@@CyanRooper Hollywood, simply does not know when to end things, they have this attachment to it all. Sometimes, when you know something is good, you leave it be, you enjoy it while it is there, and then you move on. That greediness to keep it around will only lead to misery, and that lesson applies well - especially to the likes of Disney
It’s one thing for a popular movie genre to run its course - that’s just part of the industry. But for the creators to lash out against the audience and to treat them like they’re the problem, that just accelerates the demise of your franchises. If there was a business in any other industry that insulted its customers who had anything critical to say about the product, that business probably wouldn’t be in business for very long. The movie industry is no different, no matter how much they pretend they aren’t.
My respects to the Drinker on putting a little effort on giving to the ones in need with the campain. Drinker, you little piece of heaven down on Earth I hear people say!❤
It's a shame really, I loved my comics and superheroes in general growing up. As a quiet nerd, living in a family of outgoing sisters + mum, escaping with these stories was like going to my happy place. So to speak. It was heartbreaking to see how these stories and characters were used, abused, and downright warped. Onto the next bunch of known and beloved characters to be warped I guess...
@@OneTrueScotsman agreed, best to stay away these days. On the flipside, all the free time that I used to spend watching film & TV has allowed me to get pretty decent at golf, and more recently to take up the piano. Always wanted to do that. Swings and roundabouts I suppose 🤷🏻♂️🙂
Yeah, the only thing I think I can add-and he did a pretty good job stating this as well- in this one is that it isn't actually that we are suffering from superhero fatigue, it is that we are sick of crap films. They are desperate to try to turn the superhero genre into a female genre...this has ALWAYS been the domain of men, because we love the hero journey. I would watch the hell out of all of these movies if they hadn't clearly been written by people who hate men. If you want to see what happens when you target your movies to the proper demographic, you look at the success until disney got a hold of them, and the raging success of the barbie movie. When you alienate your core demographic, this is what you get.
Nailed that one dude. The only reason it LOOKS like superhero fatigue is that we basically just assume it is going to be a shitty movie, at this point.@@Anoneemus_Noenayme
Big props for you using the channel not just to send out a healthy dose of reality (and laughs), but to also support a worthwhile charity! I'll drink to that!
The last time that I commented about my belief that the Drinker is actually one of the most decent, honest, and sincere of the critics I watch, I got a ton of backlash… and I refused to back down. So I will again say, this is a human with a heart, who cares. His criticism is in the genuine hope of storytelling improving. And his concern for the doggos is a clear look at that reality. His hilarious persona of a hard-drinking crass sort is *not* his true self, and I enjoy his work *despite* it rather than because of it. His content is genuine, his opinions sincere, whether or not you agree with him.
Personal observation: most of the edgy bois are actually decent people. The edginess is just dumb crap for fun The super nice wholesome heckerino types are actually giant piece of crap scumbags who have some serious skeletons on their closets. See: socjus, male feminists, etc
I don't see why you'd get backlash and if you did, it would be from buffoons who's opinion should mean fuck all anyway bro. What you say about drinker is true. I just wish he would kind of go a bit deeper into why they do this shit it's not just "woke" it's more insidious than that. They are breaking down our culture and brainwashing people. Drinker seems very smart, so he surely has came to the same conclusions and revelations of what's going on, why and who's behind it... I won't say much more, you can figure it out, research "how to demoralise a nation" (I think) see how the communists operate with the oppressed and oppressors narrative. Look at what happens before the collapse of empires. Look at the common denominator with the world's elite and those who create the propaganda........
Holy damn! As a South African, I never was able to buy merch and support an initiative such as this since I lived so far away from where things are happening. Now I'm studying and living in Glasgow, Scotland and can actually buy awesome merch and show my support to a great-sounding cause! Man, this really brings a good end to my otherwise terrible day! Still hoping to bump into the Drinker at a random pub one day :D
I would love to see the Scottish Highlands. The vast rolling hills, sheep farms as far as the eye can see with happy border collies herding... I imagine no matter where you are in Scotland, there's a soft flute playing folk music in the air. Here I am in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, while a small generally clean city, I'd love to be able to look up from a grassy plain in Scotland and see stars at night. Then again, I'd be happy being in a dark, damp pub getting hammered with ripe smelling old fisherman.
Holy fuck another Saffer fan of the drinker 🇿🇦 hope you’re doing okay up there my bru! P.S. if you support Scotland for the upcoming rugby game on Sunday I’ll ask drinker in the next livestream to castrate you 😪😂
I think the monumental success of both Barbie and Oppenheimer show that audiences are ready for some original cinema again, not just endless franchise superhero movies
From my point of view you´re totally right. I was a big fan of the MCU up until Endgame. Everything after that was mediocre at best and how can it be anything else ? After Thanos there was nothing planned and that is painfully obvious. No little scenes introducing the next big villain, no more careful introduction of new characters. It feels all forced and every other studio trying to build up a universe have a big problem: we know they are building a cinematic universe and for me personally i don´t know if it is worth investing that time again especially now that all try to copy the marvel formula without recognizing that trend is already fading. I don´t really want another 10 movie story. I rather have a single movie with a single theme and the good feeling of a story coming to a close at the end.
>Barbie >Oppenheimer >original cinema Oh God lol if those cringe shows are the quality of original cinema, I guess just call the time of death on the whole cinema then, we'd just go from one lazy insufferableness to another
I loved hearing this shout out. I go to visit my local greyhound rescue every couple weeks, they are the absolute sweetest dogs I've ever met. I always want to take them all home with me.
As many people pointed out in Mauler's *exhaustive* analysis of the Ant Man movie, a new Mauler review is the sort of highly-antiicipated event (in certain circles) that the movies he reviews once were.
I was so scared for a moment that he was going to say something happened to the doggos 😢 glad to hear they are okay and great idea to support the shelter/rehoming of other doggos.
OMG - You scared the CRAP out of me when you started talking about Critical Doggo. I was terrified you were going to give us bad news. Thankfully instead we get an adorable plushie, which I'm 100% on board for.
I'm 53 years old and have loved superhero films and shows since I was a child and may always love them. For me at least, the issue is every other reason cited besides superhero fatigue, mainly tho that the quality of the writing of these films has really tanked.
Fatigue is absolutely real. Hollywood didn’t learn when AMC tried this with The Walking Dead, which led to the exact same result, with the series lurching on because AMC has no creative energy left. Now history is repeating itself. It’s cyclical.
Adopted a retired racing Greyhound many years ago, they are a wonderful breed of dog. So glad to see an individual I respect spreading awareness for these dogs. Keep up the great work Drinker! Also, any news on your books, the Ryan Drake series, going to the big screen?
This is so fantastic. A a long-time greyhound owner (yeah, that's my girl in my pic), thank you for: 1) adopting; 2) publicizing this organization so that others can give these great dogs a good home; and 3) continuing to poke a finger in that festering hole that is Hollywood in an attempt to get them to produce better (more human) work.
As a long time viewer of your channels and having rescued a number of sighthounds myself, I'd like to thank you on behalf of these wonderful animals for your generous support of a good cause. My wonderful greyhound Gandalf (geddit?) passed away last year and I miss him terribly. I am a member of Sighthound Rescue here in South Africa, who do amazing work. Thankfully greyhound racing is banned here but there are still illegal tracks and greys are being bred just for hunting, both practises are very cruel. Thank you again.
The ending caught me off guard, definitely didn't tear up slightly (in a good way), you've just genuinely put your channel as my #1 favorite if it wasn't already. Ty drinker, you're a legend mate ❤
My grandpa rescued a Greyhound when I was growing up. They are some of the laziest, sweetest and sleepiest dogs ever. If I ever own a dog, I will be rescuing a greyhound. They are the best! Good on you for saving them, and I hope your campaign really helps your local shelter!
Superhero movies may be dead but the new Godzilla trailer actually had me gripping my seat. Maybe its time studios like Toho took a dominant place in the movie market like anime did over comics. I mean with the writers killing Hollywood with insane demands for massive pay hikes on the backs of an endless stream of flops this could be the time to deal a deathblow to the major studios.
I think one of the biggest things contributing to Superhero Fatigue is: You can't just keep coming out with more and more and more characters with less and less ties to the ones that got us interested in going to the movies before you decided to toss these out. That and there really isn't a "struggle" for these new characters to go through. Growing pains, high school, dating, etc. make for boring and complacent story telling. (To The Drinker's point) Storytelling has taken a backseat to "The Message!" and because of that, the original fans that filled the seats, that helped drive the excitement, that helped get their families involved in the characters that they loved and read about when they were kids (and it was a sin to even KNOW these characters, let alone LIKE them), well...they felt as if the movies of their beloved characters were no longer the same characters, going through the same trials and tribulations, having to work together as a team, or find a new way within themselves to overcome the obstacle in front of them. No, now they just "do it". Well, that's bland, boring, and pathetic. As a massive comic book fan, I have not going to see a single movie since Endgame. I'm not excited about any of them. I've waited for them to come to streaming services and just watched them there. Trying to say that you'll be okay with the new style is just hoping that at least ONE of them is good; but they're not. The universes aren't connected, the characters have no bond with each other (and some of the actors don't either), and now you expect us to cherish them, too? No. No I won't. This is LITERALLY Marvel from the 90s doing in the movies what they did with the comic books: getting too full of themselves and botching everything. It's because of this that Spider-Man is not under Disney/Marvel properties and can't be used without their permission, or whatever the deal is they've made with each other. Marvel had to sell off character movie rights in order to not go bankrupt. Now you've done it for movies, too. Congratulations...you didn't learn the first time and haven't learned the 2nd time.
I can only speak for myself, but Superhero Fatigue has made me bored with the whole spectrum. If some "artsy" studio like Blumhouse came out with a more stripped down crime fighter-style superhero movie that got good reviews, I wouldn't be interested in it anymore than I would in a big budget CGI fest with a huge city-destroying battle at the end. It's in the genre's best interest to take a 5-10 year break.
They saturated the market with a bunch of marginal or barely-known characters - Shang-Chi? Never heard of him or almost any other character in the movie. Blue Beetle, Black Adam, The Eternals, Ms Marvel, The Inhumans, nobody cares. They are 3rd-raters at best. The movies were also just crap, so characters no one cares about or even has heard of, bad writing, bad acting, offensive agendas. Guardians of the Galaxy were similar, but the first movie was darn near perfect, and had absolutely unforgettable characters, a homocidal maniac raccoon, that's at least memorable. They were spitting out this stuff that absolutely no one asked for, and ruined the market for ALL of the characters, even the A-listers.
@@brettbuck7362 There's nothing wrong with making movies based on characters that aren't popular to the big screen, unless you want to watch the same popular characters over and over again with nothing new What matters more than the popularity of a character is the writing, which Hollywood keeps on messing up rn
...and 'new' characters have to be the 'most powerful' and the antagonists have to be the 'most threatening' and it just stop being entertaining after a while. You're right, when there is no 'struggle' there is nothing at risk for the character or story.
That quote from The Marvels director is great. It's almost like a confession that she just relied on the popularity of girl power, and she knows she should have actually tried to make a good movie.
The funny thing about this is audiences crying about ORIGINAL characters and we finally have some original characters who haven't been raceswapped and it's already predicted to tank. So we are signaling to Hollywood to keep raceswapping since that's more profitable
If you're thinking about adopting a former racing greyhound, think about adopting two at the same time. We adopted just one, not realizing how much he'd miss the company of other dogs. It led to enough behavioral troubles we had to give him back (because we could not afford two). It sucked as a personal experience, so I thought I'd offer my thoughts on this one.
I don't think any dog should be adopted alone. Always have at least 2. They're pack animals and while they are well adapted to human companionship, it's just not the same for them.
Retired greyhounds are some the sweetest, goofiest, dogs I've ever known. Many have learned mistrust of men due to the environment from which they came. If you have the patience, will, and heart, to defeat that you'll have a friend forever.
Capping off your obituary for the superhero genre by being a real life hero supporting an animal shelter. Adopting rescue dogs yourself is quite admirable too. Nicely done!
I loved all your novels and I am so grateful you have the voice to make sense on what's going on in the entertainment industry. Now you're supporting an amazing cause by helping to secure a future for these beautiful animals. I've been lucky enough to have adopted several retired racers over the years, so from that perspective I want to thank you for giving me yet another reason to respect you. There are so few people left in the world to actually look up to. Cheers to you Drinker!
Hey Drinker, bless you for taking those sweet pups in and giving them a great home. I've known a few people here in Houston that did the same. They really are awesome doggo's! Dammit, made me misty-eyed. I'll donate what I can, please give yours big hugs and pats on the heads :D. Edit to add: Couldn't find a link for CC donation on the shelter page so picked up two plushies. Thank you for being a friend of, and voice for, them :) Truth be told, haven't seen a superhero movie since 2015 iirc. It was either GotG 1 or Ant-Man 1, I can't remember.
Just a little comment to what you said about not watching superhero movies since 2015: I recommend that you finish the guardian of the galaxy series, I think the third one might be one of my favorite movies in general
Get this WOKE shite outta here! If those dogs can’t make it or have no purpose… we’ll, the market has spoken. Time to go. Wokeness is infecting everyone
As others have said below - always appreciate your commentary, but thank you for helping animal shelters in need. We have cats at the moment because we spend too much time away from the house to really care for dogs. But I grew up with both and all our kitties have been rescues or strays. We regularly help out our local no-kill shelters. All creatures great and small...
I am an old-school comic book fan. I started collecting them in the early 80s and Amazing Spider-Man quickly became my favorite. For many years, I was looking forward to a genuinely good superhero movie. We got Blade, in 1998 which I really enjoyed, but I didn't feel that the dream had really been achieved until Tobey MacGuire graced the screen as Spider-Man in 2002. Finally, a GOOD representation of my favorite childhood superhero. Then, six years later, we got Iron Man--my brother in law's favorite character. And again, it was GOOD! The MCU was just starting and we got a whole host of excellent (and some not-so-good) superhero movies. This all reached a crescendo with the two part Infinity War story arc. At this point, we are already starting to get hefty doses of the political activist garbage, but you could overlook it because the stories were still really good. Then it was over. Spider-Man: No Way Home was a really good late-comer, but really, the superhero genre was pretty played out at that point. Speaking as an old-school comic book fan, I can tell you with absolutely certainty that I am thoroughly done with superhero movies. They have overstayed their welcome and now I just want them to go away.
I agree. After Endgame it was over for me. Everything after Endgame is just political bs being pushed. It's too bad cuz if they would've prioritzed good storytelling over politics, the MCU would've still been kicking ass, but like that saying goes: go woke, go broke!
I am a big fan of superheroes. Especially under the environment I grew up in, I looked up to them for their strong moral compasses and hopefilled stories. I'm not sick of superheroes, I'm sick of "Hollywood" superheroes.
Batman with Pattinson makes me want to agree, because it was oddly great, but otherwise they’re all shit. Tell yourself you’re an adult, which is impossible not to do if you have kids, and say that any are good… cheap cgi amusement park rides that get worse every time you watch them
@RepentandbelieveinJesusChrist as much as I find preaching in the comics foul and annoying for any religion to take part in I can accept that in the context of the mythology Jesus is basically a super hero so I guess good on that part
Greyhounds were the best pets I ever had. Nice job bringing attention to this breed. They often spend most of their day in a crate, then have to run. I plan on having more of them in the future.
We finally have some original characters and if it's already predicted to tank, we are signaling to Hollywood to keep raceswapping since that's more profitable
That's simply not true racing greyhounds by and large are very well taken care of. Indeed the racing post greyhound TV Channel makes regular visits to greyhound trainers and it clear by the demeanour of the greyhound that they absolutely adore their trainers and visa versa
@@johnlewis9158 Glad to hear it. When we got our greys about 20 years ago, a man had recently been arrested fir killing retired racers. It is wonderful that so many people work so hard to rescue them.

@@johnlewis9158 That is very good news. This was here in the U.S., and a long time ago. They are fantastic dogs that deserve a good life after retirement.
Martin Scorsese was right when he compared superhero movies to theme parks. It's fun to go every once in a while, but go there all the time and you'll get sick of it, especially when the attractions keep getting worse.
i grew up actually reading comic books. standing in line for the first spiderman movie was one of my most memorable life moments. please stop. i can't take it anymore. END GAME was appropriately named. it should have stopped there. scorsese absolutely nailed it. once every couple years is enough.
i think DC should embrace the elseworlds set up, They can make original stories and takes of the characters while not labeling it as a cinematic universe. They can experiment on it a lot and take different themes. technically Joker and the batman didn't feel like superhero movies it just felt like the classic movies from the 70s where its focused on story rather than theatrics. I feel like DC is not playing their cards with this kinds of idea. They can make Movies with super hero characters and make it into character driven movies with different genres like noir, surrealism or even horror. I think DC should focus on making original stories instead of a cinematic universe. I would like to see a Martian manhunter with noir elements and take inspiration from the invasion of the body snatchers, the sign and even the thing into one movie. Alot of these movies would be experimental and low budget compared to the block buster and the good thing about this is that if it flops it wont be a big damage monetary wise for WB and they don't have to worry about making a sequel or a series unlike if a movie from a cinematic universe sucked it basically impacts everything. My point, DC needs to embrace original ideas and stray from comic book adaptations especially if they cant make a plan. The focus should be noir type or even pulp like. Tbh i DESPISE CINEMATIC UNIVERSES, i do like things to connect but not everything needs to nor do you need a cinematic universe for everything to connect.
@@MS-ii1sv yeah but Martin Scorsese doesn't churn out 20 gangster movies a year does he so when he does make them they are often a event and turn out to be incredible films made with alot of passion and talent that stay with you for a long time.
@@joshop3093 Well his last one was horrible. He's not very versatile either. But the point is that gangster movies have become boring. It never got as silly as the superhero thing by any means but any genre can get stale.
Not gonna lie I wasn't expecting the greyhound rescue shoutout at the end, but I greatly appreciate it. My family got a greyhound from a rescue when I was a teen, and I always love awareness of them being spread. Ours was an old lady when we got her so she slept pretty much all day, but when we let her out she'd run so many laps around the house still. She was the most polite dog I've met to this day.
My greyhound Jimmy could out-snooze the critical doggo I reckon! Good on you for raising awareness of these amazing rehoming groups. We got Jimmy from Greyhound Trust West Yorkshire and they were wonderful. Plushy ordered!

Just donated 10 GBP to the Doggo center, great that you adopted 2 or 1 doggo Drinker and that you use your channel to give people a choice to help out!
This is completely unrelated to this video, but The Drinker should review Green Mile. That’s a hard one to sit through for all the right reasons. The story, acting, and cinematography are all top notch, and there are scenes and plot points that haunt me to this day.
Don't get me wrong, every genre have had their day in the cultural zeitgeist (Westerns, Musicals, Slashers, Mobster and so on) and I do agree that the superhero genre will become yet another genre to fade away. But that being said, unlike the other genres, I believe the superhero genre has suffered on account of identity politics and the creative control of apathetic writers/directors who hate both the source material and the fans of those characters so much that they would willingly tank their projects just to stick it to the fans. When you look at those other genres, they just sort of faded away with popularity and not due to the political climate. But with superheroes, it seems like there's a real antagonism from film producers, writers and directors who want to co-opt superhero projects based on comic books to push their divisive politics down people's throats to the point where fans of these movies become skeptical to the point where they might not be willing to see a potential project due to being burned to many times. But that's just my speculation as to why the superhero genre is dying out. Because let's be honest, if superhero films were consistently turning out high quality products that were good across the board and not superficial aspects, nobody would have an issue with these films because we would know when we go see these films that we will be treated by high end quality products that were made with love and care.
I wonder what the next genre’s going to be, maybe Star Wars once they get George Lucas back in the chair and solve this whole lightsaber harmless stab shit.
The fan reaction I see to some of the more recent drama like that Blue Beetle director, or the snow white actress stuff, it really stands out to me in the sheer scale it's grown to and the complete absence of good faith that surrounds it. Fans are in a bad mood and turning into ex-fans in droves, basically daring the movies to give them a reason not to watch. Like say _one_ thing we don't like and it's boycott mode on we're done with your whole film.
That is a wonderful cause you are championing. I have encountered similar greyhound adoption programs in the States and found the pooches to be very affectionate and easy to bond with. Best of luck helping their program and finding these worthy doggos loving homes.
Awe. I teared up when I saw the part about the critical doggo and your request to help out animal adoption. I've volunteered before for the humane society here in the US. So my hat is off to you, my dear drinker.
Too bad for the superheroes but yay for Critical Doggo! I'm so excited to get my plushie! And it's really great you're supporting such an awesome cause. Love ya Drinker and Doggo! ^-^ ❤
As a writer I gotta admit, finding this channel is one of the best things I've discovered on TH-cam. It's been some great years, and I feel like I've learned a lot from both the videos that praise movies, but mainly from the criticism. It's nice to find likeminded critics, and it honestly has made me hopeful for the industry longterm. Cheers, Drinker.
I noticed that the further away from the classic Marvel comics storylines we got, the worse the movies got. Strangely the same trap a lot of the earlier 1990s comic movies fell into. “We have to make it cool for a bigger audience!” Little did they know that the golden ticket storylines were already there.
I have two rescued racers also. We are running out of true racing greyhounds in America as the tracks have been shut down in all but one state. I’m glad for that but sad that this non AKC breed will eventually vanish. Thanks for all you do, reviews and supporting these awesome dogs. ❤️ from Denver, Colorado
Good on you for rescuing greyhounds. They make great pets and unfortunately a lot of them are treated like shit and then discarded (usually put down) as soon as they stop being competitive.
Awesome vid that ended even awesomer with the dog shelter support. I have to admit that when you started talking about critical doggo my heart stopped, thinking you were going to announce he died.
I knew that under all this whiskey, you had a heart of gold.
Thank you for the help to the Greyhounds shelter. As an animal volunteer myself, who spent more than 15 years in dog shelters, I couldn't be more happy to hear that. Now, it's officially my favorite channel.
Critical Doggo is close to all our hearts.
I didn't have much to do with canines, but I probably have spent at least 15 years in a dog shelter known as the Doghouse.
It really became sad when superheros stopped representing timeless messages and became vessels for current issues. It cuts their longevity and how people look back on them, I don't think many of the later superhero films will age that gracefully.
She Hulk is the definition of that, She went from a sassy, funny and powerful woman to a narcissistic, selfish, arrogant and pathetic woman
Cars 3 was my wake up call oh my god that ending really made me a misoginist 😂
And you’ll make Steve Irwin proud doing so.
Take care of these majestic and beautiful creatures!
I’m retired and do the same thing. It feels good to help out.
It isn't perfect, but it is the only superhero movie that makes me want to read the comic books.
checkout Blankman (1994), best superhero movie ever, another sort of Batman, he is an inventor who makes a superhero suit and gadgets.
Constantine is still Marvell though so what's ur point?

Out of that long sad list of legitimate reasons for the genre’s fall, the most despicable by far is the attacks against fans. Any industry that mocks and insults the customer absolutely deserves failure. This one factor, all on it’s own, would have earned them collapse and massive financial loss. All the other factors simply conspired to ensure they got what they deserved.

German Shepherd supremacy
Are they allowed off leash there? My part of Canada it is illegal to have them off leash

The best part of movies in the 80's was Hollywood's willingness to take risks. From killer clowns to Conan and everything in between. It was a good time to be a movie lover
70s and 90s were much better. That said, there are some gems in the 80s too. My favorite decade for “cheesy” flicks that are super fun.
80's was indeed the peak of movies. I don't even think people got tired of action movies, as the action movies just turned more dark, edgy and serious until they weren't as fun anymore.
@@smelltheglove2038agree to disagree 😉 70s had a couple of great movies and loads of crap, same in the 90's.
Most franchises come from 80 movies.
All decades have gems and shit. It's just the nostalgia or your bias that make you think they're better.
It’s a surprise considering we thought they would about a decade ago. Normies are large children 🤷🏻
Who thought turning MCU into Troom Troom-esque content farm isnt sustainable practice?
2023 is a good year for cinema lovers because, finally, virtually every overproduced poorly written and executed blockbuster flops hard. Which means one thing: changes are imminent.

Drinker, you little piece of heaven down on Earth I hear people say!❤
Really appreciate you offering two different ways to support the retired racing doggos. You're a good man!

It’s a thing of eloquent beauty haha…
Reality is often like that, huh?
believe that!

Only a racicicist smexist BIGOT would say such things about a hu-whyte MALE!!! 😡
Personal observation: most of the edgy bois are actually decent people. The edginess is just dumb crap for fun
The super nice wholesome heckerino types are actually giant piece of crap scumbags who have some serious skeletons on their closets.

I think the monumental success of both Barbie and Oppenheimer show that audiences are ready for some original cinema again, not just endless franchise superhero movies
The idea that audiences "arent ready" for a certain type of movie says more about the person saying it than anything else.
Not only that, but also sequels, prequels, remakes... and franchises in general.
>Barbie
>Oppenheimer
>original cinema
Oh God lol if those cringe shows are the quality of original cinema, I guess just call the time of death on the whole cinema then, we'd just go from one lazy insufferableness to another

As many people pointed out in Mauler's *exhaustive* analysis of the Ant Man movie, a new Mauler review is the sort of highly-antiicipated event (in certain circles) that the movies he reviews once were.
It really peaked with Morbius. After he morbed all over the bad guys it set the bar as the superhero movie of all time
Yeah it made Morbillion dollars
Yeah right. Morbius
When he said “it’s Morbin time” it became peak super hero content. Cant top it
That movie wasn’t very good. You needed to use the audio descriptions to even understand what was happening at points.

Same here! I got so so worried. Glad it’s just the Drinker being a massive and helping a good cause!
While The Drinker may not be the hero we want, he is the hero we need.

Hi Drinker. I recently gave a home to my rescue Greyhound Ellie. So it's great to see you supporting rescue Greyhounds too. My man. Love the channel.
The ending caught me off guard, definitely didn't tear up slightly (in a good way), you've just genuinely put your channel as my #1 favorite if it wasn't already. Ty drinker, you're a legend mate ❤
The Critical Doggo is a wonderful idea! I've had two rescue Greyhounds and they really are brilliant additions to the family.
It’s Disney. Disney ruined marvel
@@brettbuck7362
There's nothing wrong with making movies based on characters that aren't popular to the big screen, unless you want to watch the same popular characters over and over again with nothing new
What matters more than the popularity of a character is the writing, which Hollywood keeps on messing up rn
...and 'new' characters have to be the 'most powerful' and the antagonists have to be the 'most threatening' and it just stop being entertaining after a while. You're right, when there is no 'struggle' there is nothing at risk for the character or story.
I lost my greyhound a short time back... seeing yours bought me such happiness, i'm off to donate ....
Correct. All women understand they aren't equal to men. They're all massively insecure about it. They will NEVER admit it though.
Bless you for trying to adopt though, the lanky guys need it :)
This is the first time (2/28/24), that I'm even hearing about Blue Beetle.
Retired greyhounds are some the sweetest, goofiest, dogs I've ever known. Many have learned mistrust of men due to the environment from which they came. If you have the patience, will, and heart, to defeat that you'll have a friend forever.

Try My Hero Academia.

The fandom of that is so toxic that they made the author want to finish the story faster.
I agree. After Endgame it was over for me. Everything after Endgame is just political bs being pushed. It's too bad cuz if they would've prioritzed good storytelling over politics, the MCU would've still been kicking ass, but like that saying goes: go woke, go broke!

i think DC should embrace the elseworlds set up, They can make original stories and takes of the characters while not labeling it as a cinematic universe.
He's right but the same is true for mobster movies.

This is completely unrelated to this video, but The Drinker should review Green Mile. That’s a hard one to sit through for all the right reasons. The story, acting, and cinematography are all top notch, and there are scenes and plot points that haunt me to this day.
I really love your support of dogs, especially rescues. Good job, Drinker!
All well said
SUPERHEROES MOVIES FLOPPY,
I wonder what the next genre’s going to be, maybe Star Wars once they get George Lucas back in the chair and solve this whole lightsaber harmless stab shit.
@roomyballoon3494 whatever it is, I want some original ideas and not another fuckin reboot or remake.

I noticed that the further away from the classic Marvel comics storylines we got, the worse the movies got.
Strangely the same trap a lot of the earlier 1990s comic movies fell into. “We have to make it cool for a bigger audience!”
Little did they know that the golden ticket storylines were already there.
