Drinker's Chasers - You Get Paid What You're Worth

- In her new autobiography, which I'm sure everyone will rush out to read, actress Leslie Jones complains about being paid far less than her costars Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig for her work on Ghostbusters 2016. Here's the thing - as an actor, you get paid what you're worth, not what you want.
She claimed these “Toxic Ghostbusters Fans” are not only sexist, we are racists because we didn’t like them casting a black woman. We LOVE Ernie Hudson. He’s actually talented. His line delivery stood out in a film with Aykroyd, Murray, and Ramis in it.
He's actually my favorite Ghostbusters lmao when he's being interviewed in the first film they ask him if he believes in all these outlandish stuff and he simply responds "if there's a steady paycheck involved, I'll believe anything you want me to believe." Hahaha
Winston was the most relatable one. Just an every day guy who needed to pay bills, but still stepped up when he had to.
He also got screwed.
If there's a steady pay check in it, i'll believe anything you say
@@dontgetmarried Still think the "I've seen sh*t that will turn you white" was a line that would cause many in the audience to choke on their popcorn.
Leslie Jones is such a top-tier actor with such stellar performances such as;
Yelling black woman stereotype.
She will do nudity if the role requires-"Naked & Alone Celebrity Edition" SNL skit with Peter Dinklage
Lmao
She was great in “fat short haired lesbian stereotype” as well.
I will take that role for a small fraction of her salary and I am a white male.
She actually did a good job in Angry Birds 2. Jobs where you only hear her, not see, are her best bet.
Orlando Bloom got 175k for all 3 LOTR movies. But it made his career.
Yeah... his career... yeah... well, at least his LOTR royalty cheques are good (apparently he makes more per year from those than he did from the upfront)
And there’s the interviews where he says he’s grateful for what he was paid at the time as it reflected his “experience” then…
@@thelastmotel his career has actually been pretty good, considering he's been Will Turner in every pirates of the caribbean and was in a lot of other very notable films like Troy and Black Hawk Down.
HOW DARE YOU! HE HAD A SUCCESSFUL CAREER BEFORE LOTR!! HAVE YOU SEEN BLACKHAWK DOWN?!?! 😂😂😂
@@thelastmotel I'm sure the royalty cheques from GB2016 are also raking it in.
The real hero of the story is her agent. Being able to negotiate a 100% payrise for an absolutely obnoxious nobody without being told to f**k off is a true master of their craft.
As I understand, it's common negotiation tactic I Hollywood, to lowblow the first offer and see if actor/actress is desperate enough to take 1st offer. And then some counter-offers are made from both sides until they hit the number that the actor will accept. I can bet the studio people had a certain line they where told not to cross, but Jones probably accepted way lower than that. And the studio people patted each other to the back on how cheap they got Jones.
@@pyorre2441I would have paid her with a bag of chips, not necessarily full, at best
Real props to Melissa McCarthy's agent. 14 million is a pretty good payday for a comedic actor in general, and especially in an ensemble cast. Then again she did have a few successful comedies prior to Ghostbusters.
Probably just held up a sign that said ESG Score on it and pointed at it lol
Agent: "Listen here cracka-ass, you gives lezley da monies or we callz Al Sharptons!"
Leslie Jones wasn't underpaid. Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig were overpaid.
Bang on. 14 million for Melissa McCarthy 😂😂😂
No, they were ALL overpaid. They all should've ended up owing Sony money after the film bombed at the box office that badly.
@@les4767 They acted how they were "directed".
One could say McCarthy got paid her weight in gold 🙃🙃
At least Kristen Wiig is nice to look at, Leslie Jones on the other hand...
I love how she glosses over the fact that she wasn't paid 150k, she _accepted_ 150k. She could have played hardball with the studio and held out for a bigger check, but she probably knew that they'd just smile, nod, and call Octavia Spencer.
She was offered around 70k, and her/her agent got them to more than double it...
They played hardball, but you seem to want them wrapping the bat with barbed wire lol
@@iro6758 I think that would have been a far more entertaining movie, honestly. It would have also justified me in my desire to chant ECW at inappropriate moments.
MCU She-Hulk: "I demand better pay!"

We..the fanbase.. demand a refund, resignations, and an apology.
Fix the dam door
Very funny and layered. My favorite part is the stupidity of "everyone" here, blaming the actors and the show for decisions of executive control that all flows up to the people on top.
If only Chasers focused their energy there instead of shitting on the people below catching all the shit.

I've said this for years, if you're not getting paid enough it's your agent's fault, not the patriarchy's.
That's not true; she got paid significantly more than she's worth.
Paid by the pound, and I'm not talking currency.
She truthfully got paid more because she's black and the producers were probably afraid of being called racist
@@AsperTheGhostpaid by the number of dog pounds in which she's been incarcerated
If she were paid what she was worth, she'd get paid one of those chocolate coins.
She clearly got to stared in something she never belonged to or was meant for.
If the cast of Ghostbusters 2016 got paid every time they made us laugh, they would end up owning us money.
Meanwhile, the key grip only made $4800, and contributed a lot more than Leslie Jones did.
The interns that get paid nothing contributed more by getting coffee.
Lord Helmet, I agree with you so much. It reminds me I need to re-watch that movie you are the star of!

The guys who construct the sets and stunt performers do the hardest jobs on movie sets. Most acting parts are very expendable, in comparison.
@@davestang5454 can't use a stand in for a skilled laborer. 🤣
This is actually the funniest thing she's ever done. Bravo to her for finally telling a good joke!
So let me get this straight: Jones’ agent negotiated that abysmal pay for her and she accepted it - and yet somehow her agent’s ineptitude and her own stupidity is now on McCarthy, Wiig and the studio executives?!
My late father used to say „do not turn your deficiencies into my problem“ to anybody trying to guilt-trip him.
Okay, but your dad's burn is BRUTAL. I'mma steal it, may he rest in peace.
To be fair, her agent did a phenomenal job even getting her a penny.
In what universe is being paid A HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS for a couple WEEKS of work "abysmal" pay.
If she were a big name actress that's one thing, but NOBODY KNEW HER!
If you write an article that says in big print "TOM CRUISE STARS IN"
and then cut it off, LOADS of people are going to click to see what Tom Cruise is in.
Do the same thing with Leslie Jones and everyone will go "Who the fuck is that?"
It's similar to the women's US soccer team thing, where they agreed to a deal that gave them a bunch of benefits and guaranteed salary, but when they started doing well and COULD have made more if they'd taken the men's deal (which they were originally offered and turned down) they decided that it was "sexism" rather than the consequences of their own choice. It's just the victim mentality again. "It's never my fault, it's someone else trying to keep me down!"
@@wumpusrat The best thing about that too is, that if the men's team took the woman's team's deal, they too would have been paid more
Turns out when you only get paid when you play, that a global 2 year shutdown stops you from getting paid
The actor who played stiffer in American pie made 5k for the movie.... When he was asked to return for the reunion he was paid 5M
How can you seriously discredit Leslie Jones' iconic roles over the years such as "Angry Subway Patron", "Vapid Nurse" and "Trucker Woman"?

What's funny about calling the Ghostbusters fan base racist and sexist is that she is assuming the entire fan base is comprised of only white males. So wait, who is being racist and sexist again?
You’re allowed to generalize, mischaracterize, and dehumanize white people, especially if they’re men, especially if they’re straight. That’s their privilege.
Not only that, she has played quite a few roles where she plays the stereotypical "funny" but yelling black woman
She puts herself in those shoes and yet she's the one calling US the racists?
Why blame us when she's doing what she is supposedly to defy?
She also seems to ignore the fact that most ghostbusters fans absolutely love ernie hudson's portrayal of winston.
If i was a racist, it'd be real weird to really like ernie hudson and then dismiss leslie jones on the basis of race. Her entire argument there is disingenuous.
You don’t actually get paid what you’re worth, you get paid what you agree to accept and what your employer agrees to pay
Yeah, what probably happened was Leslie found out much later how much the others were getting paid, and got very jelly.

It’s not their fault shes dumb enough to fall for the old “This is gonna blow you up so take less money now” line 😂😂😂
Exactly, they gave her a proposal and he accepted, she even got a bit more than what they original offered. So why is she complaining all this years after? She did a job, got paid for it, just move on. And apparently she's not that big of a deal, cause she haven't been in that many movies since then, so she got paid what she was worth.

A few months after GB2016 came out, Jones did a free standup gig at the local casino, being five minutes away, I was curious so I went to just see the crowd. Peeped my head in and everyone was in the front row. Actually just the middle of the front row, about 15 people were there.

Wow! 😂 Melissa is not worth 14 million. She has a great agent.
You seriously think MCCarthy isn't a massive draw? I would pay that to get her. It's not about how good she is, but about how many people she will get into seats.
And she was an Oscar nominee .
delusional@@miskatonic6210
@@miskatonic6210She is not a draw. Most of her movies have flopped
Last sentence is definitely correct regardless of what you like about MM.
McCarthy won an Emmy for her most successful show and earned an Oscar nomination for Bridesmaids prior to Ghostbusters so I guess that make sense why she was paid that much 🤷
As Robert Meyer Burnett likes to say: "It's not 'show friends', it's 'show business'. You get what you can negotiate."
Leslie Jones: *"THE POWER OF WOKE COMPELS YOU!"*
Everyone: "No."
"But what really is 'woke'? Define it if you can you fascist/bigot/conservative/white supremacist! Check mate, discussion over!"
She'd have been getting even less if her pay came from the back end. Anybody involved in Lady Ghostbusters should be grateful they earned anything at all.
So she was paid well considering Orlando Bloom got 175K for the LOTR trilogy. They also hit him with ' you will blow up after this' line, but in his case it was true.
Except he didn't really blow up, did he? He does, however, make more money now as his LOTR royalty cheques are more per year than the payment he got upfront for the movies.

According to wikipedia Leslie Jones' notable roles are: Ghostbusters, SNL, Coming 2 America.
Amazing body of work, her memoirs must be a fascinating read.
It's not like she's not funny. she's just got narrow casting appeal.
The year before Ghostbusters came out, she was in "Trainwreck" playing Angry Subway Patron.
She was also in "We Are Family" for which Kareena Kapoor won Best Supporting Actress. Jones played "Driver". It is not evident from the plot on Wikipedia just where a Driver fits in to the story.
If you are an actor and most of your roles don't have real names attached to them, that's a bad sign for your career.
She should be very thankful she was hired for the movie in the first place! With her performance she was lucky to be paid for it.
Most workers aren't entitled to money if their work is not up to standard. By that same universal standard, studios should be entitled to not pay if the actor delivers a subpar performance.

It’s not like they could have hired just anybody to scream their dialogue for 96 minutes.
Was she forced to accept $150000? Or did she sign a contract and agreed to that? Free will is a thing, if it was not enough, walk away.
When the director/writers were called out, the studio attacked fans for being "sexist." Hollywood egos are out of control. The audience doesn't want to pay to be insulted.

This needs to be a bigger story. The movie went out of its way to say if you didn’t support these actors, you did not believe in inclusivity. While paying one of their actors significantly less and saying fans were the problem

When money talks, political bullshit walks.
@@liamanderson9104 in the one sense, they think all of their requirements are things that YOU should do or put up with. It's fine for them to do whatever they want when it is their money because their hearts are pure and it's just business.
so they can say with a clear conscience that they can pay Jones less because they are good people who are promoting diversity which benefits her, so is part of her pay (and she agreed to it) and if you don't praise the movie, you are an #-ist or a #phobe or whatever because you should be willing to spend YOUR money to support the cause even when they would not because you are likely a bigot somewhere deep inside and need to pay penance.

To quote Amy Pascal, one of the main producers of Ghostbusters 2016: "People want to work for less money, I'll pay them less money. I don't call them up and go, 'Can I give you some more?' What women have to do is not work for less money.... People should know what they're worth and say no."
McCarthy got paid so much more because unlike Jones, she was playing a lead character. Jones was in a supporting role, though one with a fair amount of screen time. Also, McCarthy had just had several hit films in the years immediately prior to starting production on the film, and both her and Wiig were in Bridesmaids, so they were obviously paid more since they had stronger careers to stand on and could actually make demands.
Plus, McCarthy was mostly producing her own films by 2016 anyway, and so the studio would have to offer her more money than she could have simply paid herself to do another "Tammy" film or whatever.
(Interestingly, Ernie Hudson was paid very little for his supporting role in the original film, which makes sense when you consider who the leads were and how much they'd have been demanding by that point in their careers.)
The article claims that McKinnon was also paid more than Jones, but if you look up Jones' actual statement, she didn't mention McKinnon, who likely got paid mostly the same as Jones since both are nobody SNL leftovers who mostly do voice acting roles.
The actual best way to earn more money is to CONTROL the money on a movie production. Becoming a PRODUCER should be the aim of any actor who really wants to succeed.

She can't. She's so loud and obnoxious she made herself deaf.
Regarding Jennifer Lawrence she (really her agent) is able to negotiate disproportionately large salaries for her because she got an Oscar early. That accomplishment is worth a lot less to some of us than it used to be but Hollywood still cares. Pratt still doesn't have one despite having been in more movies that made more money so it's not surprising he wouldn't get as much.
In general I wonder what would happen if a lot more actors (or other crew members) were only paid if the movie was financially successful. Would they get very particular about which jobs they took? Would the quality of the films being made go up? Would we see some volunteer to not get paid if the movie did poorly to ensure others did get paid?

The thing about Tatiana Maslany is if you ever watched Orphan Black, you can see she's a really good actress with a lot of range. For those who don't know, in the show her main character finds out she's one of many clones so she not only plays multiple roles in the show, she sometimes plays one character pretending to be another for plat purposes. Well only certain movies do that, she still managed to find some successes in other stuff like Bridesmaids, Can You Ever Forgive Me and the underrated action comedy, Spy
@@LebahG4nteng she can be very good. The movies she does with her director-writer-husband are AWFUL.
@@kpsk8031 Oh of course the comedy movies she did with her husband are mostly terrible, I won't deny that. She's at best when she's cast against type. Bridesmaids, The Heat and Spy were a few that I genuinely found her funny
@@LebahG4nteng "Bridesmaids" is great, albeit a little too long. It is a female driven movie done right.
@@kpsk8031 Yeah I agree, a bit too long (it was produced by Judd Apatow anyway who likes making and producing overlong comedy movies for some reason) but I liked it overall. Melissa was definitely the best part of the movie
Remember when Bryce Dallas Howard complained she got paid significantly less than Chris Pratt in the Jurassic World sequels. Pratt got $10 million, Howard got $8 million calling $2 million “significantly less” than Pratt. Yet, she got paid better than Martin Lawrence for Bad Boys 3, $11 million dollars less than Will Smith.
Jones did get screwed over money wise on GB(2016), Melissa (even with an Academy Award nominee pay bump) got paid too much.
Here’s the real question, HOW MUCH WAS KATE MCKINNON PAID? She was in the same boat as Jones, not a household name at the time. I would expect them to be receiving about the same amount. However, I cannot find her salary for GB(2016) anywhere.
"who wants to tell her..." 😂😂😂 to be honest im surprised she didnt play the race card
give it time
That honestly seemed like what she was doing
I don't see any other reason why she would bring up the difference in pay. Jones has used the race card in the past. It's the only one she has to play. So I don't see why she would stop here.
That seemed like what she was implying in attempts to justify why she wasn't paid more rather than....you know her resume.
She doesn't need to, there's a long line of Racist grifters just waiting to pick it up & run with something like this.
This clip is worth more than all those horrible actresses put together!
She was briefly in an episode of the James Spader TV show Blacklist. She played a person waiting in the DMV annoying Spader's character 'Red' in a case of mistaken identity.
lmao!! That was her?? shit.
Thanks. I'll be sure to skip that one.
@@proto-geek248 She's only in it for 45 or so seconds, just fast foward thru that part.
This movie will blow up your career.... that can definately be taken 2 ways.
Her position comes from the idea of equity that is being pushed everywhere now. Her abilities, draw power, prior career aren't supposed to make a difference. Because she's from a 'certain demographic', by the rules of equity she should get paid the same as the other 3 actresses so that all outcomes are the same across the board.
🤫🤫🤫
If Leslie Jones genuinely thought that the pay she was going to receive wasn't enough, she just should have either tried to negotiate for better pay or just not join the production. Nobody forced her to be in Ghostbusters 2016. If she could find better work elsewhere at that time she could have just done that instead.
She's been complaining about the harassment and death threats she supposedly received over the movie. I don't approve of that stuff but at the same time, I don't think a lot of it would've happened if she hadn't repeatedly engaged them and proved that they were getting under her skin. Shrug it off and stay off social media so the trolls can't feed.
I doubt it even happened, and if it did, it was probably done by one of her friends or family members to gain sympathy? It’s an old and tired political trick that left wing minorities play to their base, like that Toronto Canada MP Iqra Khalid played and got busted for? Its pathetic and shameful.
i CALL BULLSHIT
So gkad you get all kibds of voices ob your shows! So glad to see Jonny on here. You all are so entertaining and feel so down to earth, i feel like its just a group of guy friends hanging out....with thousands of people. watching 😂
The same silly people who claim Barbie is the best movie ever will now support her and claim she was done wrong. But never be heard of again
I'm always reminded of the Total Biscuit quote that when people say that you will be paid in exposure, you should note that people die from exposure.
I can understand paying McCarthy 40 mil, if they’re paying by the pound.
There are times you read comments. And you're happy that you didn't have any tea in your mouth. Gold...
@@whodunit5621 You win the internet today.
$14 million?! Holy crap she had a great agent for that negotiation.
You get treated poorly then whine about it to the world to help your career? Our fears are always found on our path to destiny.
Well, the really stunning part of this is that Melissa McCarthy got a reported $14 million payday for doing that movie. I've long advocated for actors being DIRECTLY paid FAR FAR less to make these movies, but also receive percentages and royalties. This form of compensation is commensurate with the success and longevity of the film.
A lot of actors do just take some of the percentage in lieu of a direct salary, and most of them end up making *far* more money than salary.
Well, it was the then black female president of The Academy of Arts and Sciences that issued the inclusivity mandates that basically told the studios, "If you want your movies to win an Oscar, ever again, then you guys had better pander, and hard".
She paved the way for certain people to get shoehorned in wether they were worth it or not.
Drinker - remember 2016 Ghost Busters??
Mauler - How dare you
McCarthy was starring in a prime time sitcom when the movie was done. She was higher profile for sure.
Yeah, Bridesmaids was the movie that pushed her to the top because her performance was the most acclaim than anybody else in the movie and earned an Oscar nomination for her work
@@LebahG4nteng And Wiig was like the main character in Bridesmaids, too. People forget these two actresses were only a few years removed from one of the best "girl comedians" flicks that had come out that decade.
@@GravitoRaize That too, Wiig as the writer and the lead actress of one of the most successful comedy movies of all time. Definitely deserve more than Leslie
My boy Jonny Law! Excellent to see him in the mix!!!
"Light humour?"
Leslie Jones fits neither.
Chris Hemsworth got paid $150k for the first THOR movie.
Eat THAT, Leslie!
It’s hard for Jones to grasp because she’s a black woman, and they’re encouraged to complain about everything regardless of facts or logic
Yeah as a Latino I can definitely confirm that black people are the loudest and complain the most.
surprised youtube didn't delete your comment
This one's not even racist that's just a fact
@@alanoldham1700 agreed.
Why didn't her oh-so enlightened and empowered girl-boss co-stars each pony up $100K to help out their fellow ghostbuster? It would've been nothing off their bottom lines.
