    I was getting ready to watch "The Real" when this new show "The Mel Robbins Show" came on instead. I was about to turn off the television when I heard her say "You are one decision away from a completely different life" and I stopped and listened for more. I learnt about the five second rule that day and a telephone call that I have putting off for so long to make - I started counting 5 4 3 2 1 and I MADE THE CALL!!! Now I am finally doing something with my life and it's all thanks to the Mel Robbins Show. Needless to say I am now hooked and never miss an episode. I even purchase the 5 second Rule Book. Thanks Mel!

      I am going to try it. It has something to do with being women. Probably how hard men can really be on us. I even tell my husband, "if men could have children we would.NEVER hear the end of it,"! He actually agreed with me... I am trying to lead us out of the darkness of his malignant sociopathic narcissistic family. I may have to leave him but I can see that I have healed him so much. I can be happy for that no matter what happens. We are friends first. I will begin to implement this into my own day to day. So glad tou say it does work! Thank you.

    It's a mistake to make that call to a narcissistic personality, they'll only use what you have to say to frustrate you and you'll feel like you should have stayed no contact. We don't always need to mend a broken relationship or talk to them in order to accept the failure of the relationship or connection. Doesn't matter if the person is your mom if all they do is cause more grief when given the opportunity. Dealing with someone who lacks empathy is more detrimental & exhausting then carrying the loss.Sometimes it's a life long grief you learn to live with.

    I've been following Mel for nearly a year since I saw the replay of her interview on Impact Theory. I bought the book 'The 5 Second Rule' and listened to her audiobooks. I was full on with the 5 Second Rule then I allowed some circumstances to affect me adversely and I regressed (again) and it's been very difficult to get back into it. I missed this first show because of this but I'm catching up now. This first show made me cry with her interview with Lori. The things she wrote on the the white board hit home.

    Holy cow...the first thing she said about her story....she was 41 in 2008 when the economy crashed and she lost her job describes my story almost to a tee -- I quit my job not realizing everything I knew was about to change. I wasn't, still not, married and no kids, but elderly parents that needed my help. Like the 2nd lady, I lost my mom which changed a lot for me. Like the 3rd lady, I stopped opening my mail -- I couldn't bear the reality. I always had a decent paying job, owned my own home and had an 802 credit score. It took years to get there and in a very short time it was all gone and there wasn't much to aspire to...no job market, getting older, my family all turned their backs when my mom passed. I was alone and taking care of my step-dad. My life became very small. The next year I lost my step-mom. Not long after I lost my cat (think what you want, but I went to sleep and woke up to her little face every day for 18 years. She met me at the door every time I came home - I loved her so much and I miss her terribly and I feel like maybe I unintentionally contributed to her death) and the following year I lost my step-dad. Not long after that my dad had health issues and needed care. Now, the time in my life when I could have had children is gone so there is a good chance there will be no one to care for me in my old age. The thought terrifies me. My dad is 86 -- I'm not sure how much longer I will have him in my life, but I have anxiety thinking about how alone in this world I will be when he's gone. Am I going to be able to find a job at my age and after so many years out of the workforce. I fear having an accident and no one finding me until the stench from my dead body causes someone to call the authorities. I'm afraid I will be stuck in some home and I will die and no one will care. I will not have a next of kin or emergency contact.

      Losing a beloved pet who has loved you unconditionally for 18 years is devastating! Do not be embarrassed about your pain over it. You are a strong person you can make a life for yourself. Dont be afraid to be alone, learn to get to know yourself - who you really are. Look inside to see the wonderful spirit you are.

    • @justmemadison

      @@carolinepattinson6135 Thank you. I guess I was having a moment. I don't ever put myself out there like that ( post A LOT of comments and there isn't one like this anywhere). I know why after rereading it. I've reached out to 2 people that have been in my life for more than 20 years, but we live in different states and with life and responsibilities the friendships are still there (well, maybe) but not the time. Anyway, I put myself out there -- dreading being so vulnerable...it's not easy and they were very kind; however, I've never heard back from either of them. So, I appreciate your response and the response of the other comment...it's more than I've received from the people that I thought might care. I hope you and your loved ones are safe and well during this pandemic and all the consequences that are coming with it. Take care and keep being kind...it matters.

    Finding time to drag yourself from the brink of being exhausted from work and no rest, to get more work and less rest, for no other reason than your employer funds never covers the cost of living. This is the pressure that so many single persons have to deal with when one income never covers one lifestyle no matter how humble. 5 4 3 twenty-one.

    I have been going through major depression, anxiety and panic on a daily basis. I am on medication which does not appear to be helping much. I just started hormone therapy low doses a month ago after 7 years of full hysterectomy and hoping that it works sooner than later. I am terrified with panic every day about my future, finances since I haven't been able to work in 8 months because I have a hard time functioning let alone knowing what I want out of life. I am terrified of my mom and husband passing away and being left to fend for myself. Whatever strength and confidence I had before surgery has gone and not returned. I am afraid of getting old and being alone. This is a fear from trauma that I had as a child plus years of bullying and abuse as a child. I wish that I could change my mind and feel better but it's not working. I have an underlying depression and anxiety so now it's a double depression. I know some things to do to feel better but don't have the willingness to try.

    My problem can’t be solved by action, or at least I don’t see it that way. I believe your 5 second rule is great and that it works! I think I have proven in my life that I do not make good choices when it comes to a partner. I am embarrassed that I have been married 3 times. #1 had an affair, #2 was abusive, and #3 was a narcissist and bully. I am 67 and don’t seem to have trouble being asked out on a date but when I am asked to go,out again I panic and ask myself “ what in gods name are you doing ? You’re an idiot to think you want to get involved with someone again! So I have spent 5 years on my own. I’m not sure that the 5 second rule applies to this kind of issue?

    • @jenlotus17
      @jenlotus17 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does because if you choose too you can seek solutions to these things to these patterns to break them so can have healthy relationship pick and be with the right kind of people for yourself. Look up doctor nicole "Holistic Psychologist" and she discusses alot about how our relationship patterns are molded since child hood from our caregivers and things we experienced and these traumas can be healed so do not unconciously seek them again and instead seek healthy relationships and also to feel healthy in one self. You can totally take actions to find peace and love yourself and trust your judgment.

    I find this show a little bit boring because Mel is giving only very, very short advice to the Guests. What's the point?

    I love Mel Robbins. But the scene with Steve is scripted... 😭🥺 Please let’s try to remain authentic. The story is true! But how it was introduced was kinda scripted. Of course the crew knew Steve is gonna be there.

      He has commented himself that Mel didn't know he was there.
