All of those injuries sustained in the 1st World War, and then he enlists in the WWII. Was a man! He had the sweetest face, in Dad's Army. It was fun to see him young and handsome, as well. And my word, what an interesting grave yard. Really old and gnarly.
I used to love watching Dad’s Army and still watch the re-runs. Arnold was so talented and we owe him a big thanks for his military service. A really interesting video, thanks Paul.
I love the film Ghost Train. I’ve seen a local drama group in Llanelli performing it too. A great story. He was an incredible person. I heard a radio programme about his life and it reduced me to tears. I loved him in Dad’s Army, a lovable character.
I've got the whole lot too. Remember watching the very first episodes with Mum and Dad in the early 60s. There were three lost episodes from the early series but they were remade using a new cast, about four or five years ago. They are pretty good I have to say but would have liked the originals. Timothy West played Godfrey. They're on dvd.
Absolutely loved Dads Army ,Loved the character private Godfrey was also very saddened to hear of Ian lavenders passing as well .Still now the whole team are together again . R.I.P Arnold , & All of the Dads army cast . God bless .
What a brave man in the two world wars. Good writer & a good actor, too. Thanks for telling his story. Loved him in Dad's Army. They don't make them like that anymore.
I absolutely loved watching dads army. My dad used to watch it, so I watched it with him. [Dad no longer with us😢] so anything to do with Dads Army is always a lovely reminder xx
Thanks again Paul.yes Arnold ridley who along with the rest of the troop/cast of dad's army. bought so much laughter into our homes in his role as Godfrey.so R.I.P Arnold and thanks for all the fun which will never be forgotten
Paul, what can I say! Even unexpected grave visits you manage to do them so respectfully and the information you give is eye opening. Never knew he did so many things like writing and producing. He was the quiet member of the platoon but a huge character because of that. His constant referral to his sister Dolly always bought a chuckle 😊. A great gentle man surely missed. Thanks for your tribute to him and let's hope more people visit his grave. Thanks Paul.👍
Paul, I love Dad’s Army and continue to watch it. I never knew about Arnold’s wartime service which contrasts his television persona. Thanks for a fabulous episode. Cheers, Bob
What he went through was incredible. If Paul's commentary had stopped at around 1920 one would have considered Arnold Ridley to have lived an adventurous life. Perhaps his experiences influenced the way he portrayed Private Godfrey.
I loved Dad’s Army, such a brilliant comedy. Arnold was a great man, I’ve watched The Ghost Train (1941 version) many times on TH-cam. I love your new introduction ❤️❤️🇦🇺🇦🇺
I Really enjoyed this episode Paul, after watching your video.. I google his name.. and went back on TH-cam, I’m now watching The Ghost Train.. 1941 .. and the train service they are filming on.. is the GWR .. brilliant film.. ❤️

A cracking tribute to the man who bought the character of Private Godfrey to life. Everyone in the Dad's Army bunch were brilliant and this man is no exception. He comes across as a kind, softly spoken, gentle, friendly and warm person. I hope the angels are taking good care of him up in heaven Goodbye Mr Ridley, we still miss you ❤ 😊
Fantastic video, what a guy. I was pleasantly surprised to find out all about him, an exciting life indeed. I love the new titles and music, just the right amount of spookiness. Thank you Paul.
