Hi Paul, hope you're doing good. Looking forward to this tonight. I once took 2 trains and used google maps just to visit Derek Bentley's final resting place, I didn't know where his grave was in the cemetery but it only took me 3 mins to find him. It sounds really strange but I've always felt drawn to him and what happened to him because it was so sad and so unfair. Alot of people failed him and his family that day! See you and everyone on here tonight 🙏🏻 xx
@kathrynhoward9738 Thank you so much. It's nice to know someone else feels drawn to Derek too and that he's not forgotten x I really hope one day you can visit his grave 🤞🏻 xx
It reminds me of the case against Timothy Evans, and the reason why I can't agree with the death penalty - one wrong conviction is one too many when the sentence is irreversible.
@@racertianIf that is your reasoning, Christopher Craig was responsible for the death of Derek Bentley. Both Bentley and Evans took part in a crime, but a clumsy use of language was used to find them both guilty of a crime which resulted in them being hung, when they were not the main assailant. Apart from the obvious tragedies of the people killed, these deaths can be seen with a little sympathy too, surely?
@@ellesee7079 Have to agree with you there. This happened just too many times back in the post war period before advances in forensics, cctv and so on. This case was particularly unjust though.
My son once played Derek in a school drama play for his A levels it was a fantastic portrayal and you could have heard a pin drop in the school theatre. Made all the more poignant because my son as a small child had speech difficulties. I will remember Derek, his sister, and her campaign and my sons play forever.❤
Such a sad sad terrible thing to happen. Poor Derek didn't have much of a life either, sounds like he suffered from PTSD too. What a terrible ending for someone so young. RIP Derek you'll never be forgotten 😔 Thanks Paul, this is one of the best Crime Files so far 🤗 Xxx
The word's "let him have it" taken completely the wrong way. My dad remembered it like it was yesterday. The film and real crime documentaries are good to. A big case of miscarriage of justice R. I. P Derek
This was so horrible to listen too only 19 and punished for something he didn’t do horrible I don’t watch the news for exactly the same reason human tragedy’s thanks Paul for bringing it to our attention and remembering him god rest his soul ❤️👍🏻
Ruth Ellis was guilty unlike Derek, she left her children at home to find for themselves knowing what she was going out to do, she waited outside the put for around 20 minutes yo kill him, she had a lot of time to calm down & change her mind. Her Son was only 10 years old at the time, he ended up committing suicide. She should have taken care of her children. Imagine knowing your parent would rather commit murder than to dedicate herself to you as her child, he grew up knowing that & having a mother as a murderer who was hung. What he must have gone through. She was as violent as David was, both as bad as each other, both had a temper, both violent. I've been to her grave, I understand her son is with her, David's grave is only about a 6 minutes drive away.
Hey Paul, that was a nice tribute to Derek and it was tragic he was hanged for a crime he never committed. Your words and understanding are always well put. Thanks.
This entire case just makes me so angry. Of course these days under modern law it would have played out completely differently, but that wasn't applicable in 1953. An utter disgrace that the man who pulled the trigger was allowed to go off and live his life, while his "friend" was hanged on the basis of someone misinterpreting what he actually said.
This was a very respectful coverage of a huge miscarriage of justice. I grew up with this story as Chris has lived next door for over 50 years. They were kids then and although I didn’t know Derek, Chris has always been a true gentleman and family friend.
Lived seconds away from the spot where the shop where it all kicked off at for many years. A very non descript row of houses. Anyway, looking forward to this, all the best paul.
Thank you for another great video and this just goes to show how shocking the British Justice system is, my heart goes out to his family, thank you for doing this.....🤘🤘
Completely forgotten about in this nauseating video. And by the simple-minded who feel sorry for a man whose criminal activity led to the murder of the totally innocent, hardworking PC SIDNEY GEORGE MILES. Hardly any of those posting comments seem to realise this. Nor the fact that a man who claimed he couldn't work due to a bad back was able to scale tall buildings using a drainpipe in order to commit robberies !!
Such a sad sad situation poor Derick my heart goes out to him and his family. So wrong in every way . Thank you Paul this has got to be my favourite brought tears to my eyes. ❤❤
Hi Paul, this one is so sad a waste of a life when the real culprit got away with it due to his age. My Sociology teacher was actually at the scene when he was a police officer and he always believed that Bentley meant give him the gun. We always managed to side track him during lessons and get him to tell us about his cases. At least now the truth is out and he received the pardon so deserving. RIP Derek Bentley.
Really enjoyed this Paul 👏🏻👏🏻Looking forward to more Crime Files. Thank you as always for sacrificing your days off to go and film these. Honestly don’t know how you manage it all but remember to take time out for yourself too for your own wellbeing x
I remember this on t.v more than 20 years ago I cried because he didn't mean it they way the police said, and when his soul was leaving his body so sad for his Mum.
Hiya Paul another great video, reading through many of the comments this is a heartbreaking case, like many of you I went to see the film at the cinema in 1991 and totally enjoyed it, thankfully we live in different times to back then. So sad that it took far too long to have his conviction overturned. Hopefully he now is resting in peace with members of his family ❤️

Derek Bentley Timothy Evans both being a miscarriage of justice in a time that we had very few murders. The system was different in the 50's . But also we did not have so many murders also.
