It’s 2020 and I had never heard of this game. I got it on the game pass because of her face. My sister had DID and psychosis so this hit home. I felt like I was her and got to experience what it’s like to be her. Thank you everyone that was involved in this game . I don’t have the words really just thank you.

I honestly kinda liked the voices at times. While annoying at times, their constant commentary made it feel like I wasn't alone when wandering around in the dark areas of the game. That is, until they start telling Senua that everything is her fault.

I love what Ninja Theory has done with "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice." They've created more than a video game. They've prepared the way to understand complex subjects like mental illness that have been long stigmatized through visual representation. This is totally revolutionary and I love it! The game is incredible! You have to play it to believe it!

What a deeply moving and such a powerfully meaningful game you've created. It's beautiful, elegant and in a sense revolutionary.
The amount of research and consultations with mental health professionals, psychologists, university professors, researchers, patients that went into this game is incredible. The respect you care for your subject matter - psychosis and mental illness is everything.
I think you've definitely opened up the narrative of mental illness and psychosis to a younger generation of audience and gamers. Opening up their understanding and ability to empathize with mental illness in a way that is so immersive.
This is a game that will probably redefine how future games should be benchmark on in terms of merging science, medicine, psychology, psychoanalysis with art, creativity/originality with excitement and fun.

  • @SaberBenSalem

One of the best games of all times, a real work of research has been led there, a courageous team who delved into a deep subject in a respectable scientific manner, a real masterpiece. Those are the games that we really need, games that will make you have a journey into new areas of thought.

So true. I'm glad that there's people in this world who are smart enough to understand these things.
"The illness comes not from the symptoms but from the stigma, isolation and mistreatment that comes about from the rest of society." This resonates with me on so many levels.
It's amazing to have people do this, make this game and spread the word/knowledge about the thigs that are so harshly judged and ignorantly dealt with and yet that cause so much pain in our society.
Great job. There's still hope for our species.

    • @oblivianlove8758
      @oblivianlove8758 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

symptoms MAKE the illness. stigma, isolation and mistreatment don't cause for a perfectly normal person to suddenly become a loony. no amount of harshness can couse someone to become an abomination at will. society doesn't chainge your brain wave paterns, or the way your neurons shot threw your brain.
you're eather born an abomination or you beacome that way threw the pills you swallow. society's fine the way it is on that topic.

As someone working in the mental health field, while the game itself takes some liberties in what would be an utterly unheard of extreme case of psychosis, it is nonetheless refreshing to see it played pretty straight and with clear painstaking attention taken to make it at least attempted to be in line with research. I wasn't a fan of Ninja Theory after the abortion that was the DMC reboot, but got to give them major props for this, honestly really cool to see and an interesting and well crafted game to boot.

This game was so MAD that I called my friend to come over and experience it together, we played the whole game in one day and enjoyed a lot.
I get why some ppl call it a bad game mainly because of the gameplay and their approach toward game progression, but this game is a highly story focused adventure with some super creative narrations that just blow my mind throughout the game.
So apart from what's in this video, this game is an achievement in the story telling and I can't believe they managed to pull it off. The way the dive deep into the story and put story puzzles together is a MUST for anyone that enjoys good storytelling. And god I LOVE SENUA. She's soooo good and innocent. You care for her, and you fight for her **SPOILERS** **Spoilers** (I decreased the difficulty to fight for her and change the ending so hard, I never was so invested to make a happy ending for a game character) I am so sorry Senua, I wish I could bring him back, I tried, I really tried and you know it T_T )

I'm here in 2019 because Hellblade 2 was just announced the other week. I finished a walkthrough of the game on TH-cam and was a little confused about the game, so I came to watch this. What I discovered is that I watched more than a game being played, I watched what is real life for some people. I'm glad that this video was made and explains the mental illness side of Hellblade and the things that Senua goes through. I am extremely looking forward for Hellblade 2 and hope that expounds even further upon the subject of mental illness than Hellblade 1 did. Thank you again

I like the gentle voice in her head, which whispers during final fights. I have strong suspicion of who this voice belongs, but I will not reveal it, because I don´t want to spread any spoilers. Honestly this final part almost brought tears into my eyes.

The best game i have probably ever played!!! and i have been a gamer since 1978, i have seen it all trust me. this is more than a game and needs to be in a genre of its own. stunning hd, played on high end PC graphics, and stunning story! i am not kidding when i was emotional playing this game and the ending! man was in tears nearly, amazing, stunning, another level, but must add this is no game for a shoot em up and fast paste gamer's, this is for realists and major graphic heads, and a true story that has actual history and truths, not all obviously but true research which i love, its gritty, meaty, and very deep, again stunning! i only wish i could be involved with games like this and work with people who desire perfection, my kind of human :).
All i can say if your ready for a journey, go meet Senua. she will get in your head :)
    Truly best game ive played!!!!!!!!

They could have easily set her in our modern day world but instead they choose the Celtic Picts and the Viking invasions. I've always loved studying the history of these cultures and I'm so glad they went this route. It allows us to see ancient and early medieval cultures in a new way :).

The voices were discouraging and scary in so many ways and yet sometimes helpful, I was as determined as Senua to find Dillion, it was honestly all so intimidating that it had my hands shaking and left me holding my breath during the fights, I've never experienced something like this before, absolutely amazing. One of the best things was the part where you had to look for the runes!! It was so creative, the rune stones who told the story of the gods and the difference perspective mask thing that changed the world around you were really new and fantastic!
This game terrified me, blow my mind and took my breath away, so creative! And I started playing it after I saw the Hellblade 2 trailer, I'm a huge fan of Heilung and after I saw and heard Senua scream and chant along with them, I just had to get this game!

And yet she was not different to me. I understood her pain 2010% and I understood her struggle and journey. Because I would to go to the depths of hel to get my loved one back. But I would not lose, for I know darkness like no other.

See what happends when you don't have dirty homeless looking hippies making half assed games(*cough dead rising, mass effect cough*) love, care and attention to details was put in this game and its amazing to play, hope this inspires other small studios to take a leap and change the industry.

I think Hellblade 2 is gonna be about her avenging Dillion by killing those Vikings who murdered him. Now that she know she aren't curse at all she will probably turned to her normal self and revenge his death.. This time she will be fighting real people instead of her inner demon probably she will works with the Roman to fight the North Men..
Hellblade: Senua's Revenge, I'm calling the title now :D

Yea, and she could climb walls, do stealth, have a skill tree, a horse, and a hidden blade to fight bad templars.
Y don't you turn normal yourself, tool.

This was an awesome game. X3 Both my cousin and I loved to play it. The only problem was we would get headaches while playing it so we'd have to take breaks. I think it was the way the camera moved. I dunno. Still a great game. Valravn was my favourite. :)

Good stuff, reminds me of my childhood. Not nearly as traumatizing as the real thing since the game's in third person view, the protagonist is uniquely herself, and due to the fantasy setting. For mental illnesses to be better understood, we need to have better VR technology and place more emphasis on a branching story and decision-making over seemingly childish gameplay elements like swinging swords and solving symbol puzzles. Put the camera in first person view, force the player to make tough, timed decisions, make them feel helpless by preventing easy solutions, make the player uncomfortable enough to want to quit the game, and make the game reward you for progressing. I'd applaud a game like that where the player can nearly sympathize with victims of mental illnesses as opposed to empathize with them through a largely cinematic experience.

Some of those things did happen in the game. And entire level consists of having to run from one light source to another (while "seizure lights" go on). If you take too long you die. Twice you are forced to lose in battle but most people (like me) kept fighting for over 30 minutes before we gave up and realized that was what we were suppose to do. The voices were helpful, sometimes they are encouraging and sometime discouraging. Halfway through the game I started to like the voices as I never felt alone during the under ground dark scenes and they warn you if an enemy is behind you. The voice would also (wrongly) tell you you are going the wrong way when you aren't, as a way to make you not trust them.

Senua is amazing, beautiful, brave and unrelenting. Her psychosis is her weapon against this "normal" world of barbarism.
Of course its still a terrible illness, but, maybe, sometimes, it can be a shield and a sword against the evils of sanity.

I think senua sacrifice is the act of taken the shamanic initiation an internal journey facing the shadow of oneself just as oden sacrificed himself unto himself. The gates represents the very real gates one must pass through in shamanic initiation. Her enemies are elements of nature and the internal psyche
