There has never been, nor will there ever be, a band that can touch Deftones. They can play fast, heavy, and loud then turn around and play slow, light, & melodic and still sound like it's from the heart better than anybody. All hail DEFTONES \m/ RIP Cheng. @@brandenwelday7172 I thought I read other articles saying that they were making a completely new album (I think Chino said it was reminiscent of White Pony), and that they just recently finished all the instrumentals and are working on vocals now. Maybe they're doing something with Eros as well, though. That would be awesome

Ive seen them live 2 times and it was a amazing show. Deftones is like fine wine theyve been getting better over time. Also these live videos are all shot with some crappy sound from a fan... Of course its going to sound awful in a video however its hard to compare a Video to actually being there. And if your such a good drummer why havent we ever heard of you... Get off your high horse.

Anyone else blown away at 2:00 with the way he says "You wanna go for a ride?" I know it's small but the way he belts out "Ride" sends chills down my spine every time. God damn I love Chino's vocals.
That line always reminds me of the Smashing Pumpkins song Zero! I know Chino is a fan of the pumpkins so it may be a bit of a nod to them. ;)

My favourite band by far, when my days are dull and my mind's fucking with me, I put on an album and I sit and can for once, feel peace within.
My girlfriend committed suicide a month ago, like all couples we had our fair share of problems. When we were apart there was a conversation that i remember very vividly and the line you've always said that you knew my worth came out from my lips and she agreed and comforted me. The first song that I made her listen was Cherry Waves and for the love of god I swear that I would have swimmed down to the depths of hell if it meant that she would still be alive today. I don't even care if we would be together or not I just wanted to be there and help her achieve her dreams and be happy.

The good thing is that the event has pushed me forward to better myself in a way that nothing that had happened to me before. I am aware that currently I am destroyed trying to pick up the pieces of myself that are scattered around but I am not defeated, I need to push through and thrive because I am accountable not only to myself but to her too and the promises that we made.

I miss Chi. I remember being in college like 3 years ago when they were fund raising. I didnt have gas money but I put $20 on my charge to help Chi. This song is awesome

Chino picked the perfect song to honor Chi, I mean at the end of each chorus you get this.... climactic end, then... once again, starts soft and goes back into the verse, chorus and end.... repeat. Death and Rebirth, Chi will live forever in our hearts, every time we smile, cause death is never the end. Its only a beginning.

And you can honor a person with a song that he worked with. it is about the feeling, the message and the memories and we all know the band will always remember him when they worked together on this song. And from all eros songs it is the best to honor him. Cuz the sound, feeling, lyrics fit perfect for this kind of role.

I've been listening to Deftones since they were promoting their self-titled, when I was 8. I heard Change on a Dragon Ball Z tape, of all places. Now I'm 20 and they're still my favorite band and they still continue to amaze me. I cried the day I found out Chi had passed, a decade after I started listening to them. I felt like I lost a close family member, because they made me who I am. RIP Chi. Smile. You're born again

I think that Smile is a hidden brilliant of Deftones. For me it is unlike every other songs they made. They are all great, but THIS. This gives me feeling of love. This gives me happiness. I feel like they were on their peek of musicianship, and they were healing their relationship with each other, especially Chino and Steve.
It is so sad that Eros wasn't released, but I guess it's better this way. RIP Chi Cheng.

I can't imagine what this album completed would've been like. From the few songs I heard I think it would've been one of their best. You can definitely feel where Koi No Yokan came from.
This is one of the best songs of the band. I have it as a tribute to Chi Cheng, as a farewell in style.

Listened to Deftones for a long time. I think this is my favorite one by them. You can almost feel Chi's presence through the Eros material.
Deftones have found best balanced bass guitar sound i know.
Not too quiet either too loud, probably meant to add some deepness and spice to guitars

Chino was recently asked about it and said.
"‘Musically it’s probably 75 - 80% done and lyrically it was about halfway there, but honestly, I wasn't too happy with the material we had. ‘Some of the music was lacking a little bit.I had faith it was going to come together and be great in the end, but we never got to that point. Once Chi had his accident, everything came to a halt with the Eros sessions, so the idea of going back to that batch of songs, finishing them and have Sergio learn Chi's parts just hasn't felt like something that we're interested in doing. If the record were finished and we were just sitting on it, we probably would have put it out by now, maybe even given it away, just so that people can hear it, but it would take a lot more work to get it done. But when we get together, we're much more fascinated with where we are in this moment, trying to create something new."
That's upsetting. Although if the 75% of an album is as fuckin good as this I would legitimately pay $50 for four songs

I wouldn't say they've been working on it for years, to me it doesn't sound like they've touched it. Especially since they were working on GORE. But yeah i would for sure want whatever they DO have finished released as a mini-album
Gore was a bit underwhelming for me. Maybe the next one will resonate with more of an eros type sound, I hope.

Let me make you think about something - this song is from the last album that Chi would work on. They played this song live for the first time during their Dia De Los Deftones concert, which was their last show before pandemic.
I am just now listening to this in retrospect of ohms. Very powerful. Chi spirit reigns within the new album. Chi unique bass style will forever sound in the history of rock and roll.
Beautiful. To me it sounds like it would've fitted in very well on Diamond Eyes. Imagine Smile coming on after Sex Tape, or even if it was the last track after This Place Is Death

Agreed. Smile is a mind-blowing song on it's own, so you know that Eros is going to be a masterpiece, if/whenever we get to hear it.
I could see them releasing it after they break up as a band completely as the last album. I feel like there's no way they just don't release it at all.

The story behind this album is incredible, it really adds so much weight to this song. I still love Deftones but they changed a lot after Chi's accident. In a way, this song marks the end of an era.
I can just imagine Chino saying to Chi "Smile, you're born again" and it always chokes me up. It always leaves me thinking what could've been, and how different they'd be if Chi was still around. All their music is great, but dark Deftones is best Deftones imo.
'Smile' is the first deftones song that made me feel like im really connected mentally with this song - lyrics, rythm, guitar, drums, all. throws me back to my first love times which were the best. this nostalgia, feeling that i am 'born again' and visualising in my head this fresh and cold sunrise in the middle of summer with unique scent. also knowing that this song wasn't released and was connected with this eros album makes me feel like this track is really special and deep.
This is one of their best songs. I wish this was on an album!
Amazing that Deftones can go from screaming headbang style to beautiful emotional material such as this.
Its amazing that they started as a sac town nu metal band and let themselves evolve naturally into their beautiful unique and iconic style that they are now known for. Not many bands who started around that time, in that scene, have had that kind of staying power.
