I really like that flautists' sound, it's clear he worked really hard to get that kind of a sound out of that instrument, even though I've never heard any other bansuri flutes before.
@@zangsax I've been playing the flute for 50 years too, and agree, but the main thing is, that guy's ability to get all that out of a type of flute that one would think isn't suitable for complicated western jazz (it certainly wasn't designed for this kind of music) is astounding.

It’s amazing how through music we can come together from different nationalities, religion, parts of the world, etc. and connect with one another. The vibe and energy can be seen and felt🔥👏🏾

When I play in bands and we are "tight", the hairs on my arms and the back of my neck stand up. I felt this after only 2:00 mins in. Jazz and the Culinary Arts are what I hope will be the basis for peace in our time. I knew Coltrane named his son Ravi. But never knew they mixed Jazz Sax with Sitar and they did it so well. Wonderful, everybody! Sax greatly played. Flute and Tabla kind of softened up for Jazz? Not sure, but it is so beautifully played, especially the flute part. Wow. Big shout out to all of you and thank you!
I love John Coltrane and "My Favourite Things" is one of my favourites. I randomly stumbled upon this and was blown away, their interpretation brings it to a whole new level. I'm on a night shift tonight, and I'm going to replay this on my headphones when I'm on my break, around 4am, and going to fully immerse myself in it and lose myself to joy and wonder, away from the stress.
No, the magic did not start at 3:45. We just missed the magic at 3:00 because of the camera jumps. The sax player gave us a fine example of circular breathing. Seamless!
The mastery of their instruments notwithstanding as seen here, the unspoken communication between the musicians is as mysterious to me as the brilliance of the sound. Are there two conductors here? I don't know what I'm seeing, but I DO know that I am captured by this sound in every cell of my body. Musicians hear the music of the universe and interpret it for us lesser beings so that we may hear it too. We recognize it too but could never produce it. God bless them for helping us understand with our ears.

These are great musicians no question. But they have only proven the untouchable greatness of the master John Coltrane, who took this simple piece to multi universal realms, expressively, harmonically, melodically, and forever pure.

Yes but Coltrane payed/recorded this piece with the Soprano Sax while in this performance is a Tenor Sax.
