Great informative video. You and Timmy tool man do the best, and most comprehensive 3rd gen tutorials!
Nice that you showed torque specks. You also showed enough and not to much on how to do it. Great job!
You do things I wish I knew how to do for my 2012 Tacoma.
Still it's great to see what you accomplish. Thanks for sharing.
I'm about to do this same exact procedure tomorrow. Thanks for the video, this helps a lot.
To torque that big nut I put on a lug nut and use a jackstand to keep the hub from spinning.
Never thought about the boot stretch.
Love this channel for all the great Toyota content. Really appreciate all the details on your wrenching you do. One thing that I hope you could point out since you have a lot of viewers is on the torque of those 4 bolts on the LBJs . Yours had the LBJ dust covers, which are a different bolt and a lower torque value (37 ft/lbs). But, if you've got '99 and lower, they don't have those dust covers and require a different bolt with a 59 ft/lbs torque value. Been a lot of confusion on that. As always, great stuff👍🍺
Your videos are awesome bro… glad I found your channel 🤙🤙
Fixing up my 93 yota pickup 4x4....it's slowly getting there 👍
Pretty awesome work you do there
When you're hammering on a ball joint or tie rod end to get it to pop loose it helps a ton to back up the other side with a small sledge or decent size hammer.
Nice job! I had my driver side LBJ blow in a parking lot, could have been really bad.
You're supposed to use the c-clip instead of wire to hold the pice of boot. Use the same c-clip that goes on the end of the shaft that holds everything together. The boot kit should come with a new clip to use on the end of the shaft.
U make it look so easy!
Nice work!!
Thank you sir for share or teaching me how to change tire&wheel🙏🏻😁
Such a clean looking truck
I got a 98 4 runner limited... learning a lot from your vids.. thank you man...ur runner looks way better though...lol
Cool 4Runner 🤠😎👍🏻
sick front bumper
Ah, Austin… How about a matching rear bumper to the front? Just sayin’…
Thanks for the video. I’m about to do mine. 2 years later how are they holding up for you?
Nice, great how to thanks !
Glad it was helpful!
Good job. You are a talented mechanic 👏👍👌💥😉
I actually think he is a wizard, he just hasn’t told us yet!!
@@MussaKZN 🤣👌💥
Thanks guys 👍
if you did not do a front differential drop, be prepared to change these boots again in the near future, its the only fix I had after the lift to help reduce the CV shaft angles and prevent the boots from getting higher cycling during bending which causes the rubber to fail
Really? I've had my same cv boots for 3 years now, only "upgrade" was silicone cv boots. I extended the boots as well.. no issues for me so far. I have a OME 3" lift, no diff drop, OEM cv axles, silicone boots.
If the lower ball joint bolts have a washer it is 37 ft-lbs if they are flange type bolts they are 59 ft-lbs
Just found Scotty kilmers favorite channel all you need is a Corolla, also the cv Alex’s are easy to replaces I’ve done that view times abusing the taco.
Tourqe the axle nut. We just throw a pin in between the brake caliper and disk vents.
👍 you have beautiful 4x4s
Are you getting any vibrations on the freeway with the new repacked CV boots?
I have a 97 4runner, I think I'm going to replace the Lower Ball joints on mine. I should be good to use Non-OEM right?
Is cv boots are gone damage due to extra height gain for car. Please mention.
Sickkk
What size was the axle nut? Apparently mine is bigger than a 38mm. Idk how if everyone else's is like a 36mm.
Front rotor trick. place a screwdriver into the cooling vents rotate rotor till screwdriver contacts brake caliper then break nuts. no second hand or other devices needed.
Exactly what I do, except I use an old punch so I don't damage my screw drivers😂
Damn, that made a MESS! I used the paint mark idea on my drive shaft and companion flanges to make sure that they were balanced. I broke a lower fork pinch bolt on the steering stem on my Dirt bike, and broke 2 easy outs. I opened it up to try and chisel it out. It just broke apart. Do you have any idea what I should do?
Just noticed one of mine is torn. It's probably been that way for a few months. If I put on a new one and greese, can I get more life out of the drive axle, or does it need to be replaced since the boot has been torn so long?
might i suggest your next project be a 100 series LC/LX :) be good then I can follow along on my LX
On my 94 toyota pickup, the whole assembly with shaft and boots already installed was just a couple dollars more than just the boots kit. I guess the down side is that there not oem shafts.
gosh this is a cool rig, let me know if you decide to sell it.
Can't believe those things don't have locking hubs. Must be a lockup in the gearbox. I blew a front CV and just left the front hubs unlocked. I was able to drive the thing home.
gostei do video da troca da homocinetica
where did you get the coilovers?
Is this for a 2wd only? might take this project on this weekend
those boots you got from off road solutions are porsche boots, you can get them for like $7 at the parts store if you need more of them. probably something you need to do on the tacoma project
Lol wish I knew that before I bought them
what parts store? I need to do a reboot and am trying to decide where to get them
2001 and 2002 lower ball joint bolts with washers should be torque to 37 lbs, earlier models 96 to 2000 with flange bolt torque is 59 lbs.
Do 3rd gen 4runners and 1st gen taccomas share front cv axels?
Yes they do
Doing this as well…have you seen Timmy the tool man inner boot stretch mod using section of old boot? Makes ribs spread some and keep from rubbing! Great mod! Lol my bad…finish the video dummy😂
I gotta do both of these repairs on my second gen 4Runner 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
my torque wrench only goes to 150 ft lbs you think i will be okay ?
Red Boot High Angle cv is it worth it or this boot is good for a 3.5 lift
Red is good for 3” and above.
I just lifted mine and ended up ordering new boots the same day haha
Hey Austin.
How timely, I'm about to reboot my '97 CVs as the inner boots popped after installing a 2-1/2 OME lift.
In Timmy the Toolman's video he says to drain the front dif. to keep from making a mess when you pull the half axle. Is it necessary to drain the dif?
Thanks for the post!
If you haven't change the diff fluid I would drain it, I changed the fluid on my tundra diffs at 30k, seeing how my tundra only had 44k when I put new axle shafts in them, (didn't really need them I just wanted all new parts because of the age of the truck (05 Limited) I elected to just top it off when I installed the new ones, not much came out when I pulled them though, I did replace the seals on the diff something to consider if you have high mileage/age.
I had just a couple drops, I’d say you shouldn’t need to
👍
It would be cool to see you do a VW TDI Safari build. JMO
👏👏👏👏
Hey Austin, are your bumper plans in DXF format? My buddy has a laser CNC and can cut them out for me. I think sketchup make is free and you can lay them out and save in DXF format
Yes i have the DXF file
👏👏👏👏👏
Day 2 of commenting on this and Devin tube for you to go Evo race ... please Austin 💯💯💯
Actually, this is a nice idea! Please Austin 👍🏻
when u install the engine
Personally - I would of just replaced the half shaft - few bucks more but peace of mind
💯🔥🔥🔥🤘🏻👊🏻😁
Crak
Saludame en algún video
How big is the lift?
3” lift
@@austinniemela awesomeness right there.
demo ranch shirt?
Please buy a 1st gen 4runner and do your thing
Old 4Runner ball joints = Russian roulette
I don't see a benefit in that boot mod?? Am I missing something?
Lifted IFS Toyota front ends cause the boots to rub the fins together. This causes wear and the boots will fail in that location. If you open up or stretch the boot out, you basically increase the distance between the ribs increasing the life span of the boot.
fc thailand 👍👍👍
Kinda looks like Johnny sins
