Outstanding ride and result. At the risk of boring people…I rode on Sunday and GDF is a very special climb for me. My late parents and my 6 brothers and sisters lived in a small 2 up 2 down cottage at the very foot of the climb, literally just to the left of where we started. My dad worked at the mine about three miles up and travelled to work every day in an overhead cable car/bucket from the nearby village of Silverband! You can still see some of the concrete foundations if you look really closely to your left while ascending. Anyone thinking of riding the climb please treat it with respect. Within seconds you’ll be flying and although the road has an excellent road surface it twists and turns and is prone to cold, high winds and the odd sheep wandering across.
Great effort! I did this on a lovely autumn day. Literally no-one on the road, up or down. It's hard to overstate the joy of both the ascent and descent on a closed road. On an everyday basis, there are two closed gates. Neither are particularly awkward, and certainly not a reason not to do it.
I did it a few weeks ago and it's always great but I would've loved some easier gearing. You've made me sign up for a HC now which is completely different to my TT focus but it'll be fun 😂
Great video, the telemetry overlay is really good. What software do you use for that as feel it really adds to your video and looking to add this to some of mine. Keep the videos coming.
Watching this I remembered my only ascent of it & am thankful that I never had to do an open event on it; so well done Ed, assume Feather had course record from previous event so did you beat his time & what was it as I can't find any result from previous years?
😂😂I’d love to do it every year! My official time was 22:50ish, some 1:30 off the course record of Feather. But the conditions far more favourable in 2019, as indicated by the number of times in the Strava top 10 from that day

@@arthuritus5752 not boring at all, super interesting 👍
Amazing story, thank you so much for sharing it with us!
Commentary with the full video please boss! Well worth the watch. Chapeau chap! Great job 👏
Coming soon!
That was a brilliant event on an epic and special climb, already looking forward to next years event. A proper climb🙂Congratulations on the win🙂
Longest is the one thing this beast climb isn't!
Well in, mate! Absolute joy watching your videos and streams.
Nice work! Looking forward to the full video with or without commentary!
Awesome effort, Ed! Great vid. Would love the ride with commentary, though appreciate its extra work!
The boy dun great.....on the fell 👍
Well done!! With the avg power of 377watts for 22 mins your FTP is 360watts!!
That's f******g impressive.
Only been up it once, it’s a brutal climb. I’m only about 20 minutes slower than your time😂😂
Amazing climbing Ed! So impressive how you can pace for any climb. Superb! Guy
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the videos. By the way, the poles indicate to the snowplough driver where the road is.
Good to know!
Insane effort and pretty much bang on the overall power 💪 Chapeau on another amazing performance 🏆🙌
Great effort!

My back yard, was only up there a few weeks ago myself, that 'chute' section is brutal. Chapeau again to your efforts!
Ohhh so it's called The Chute!
@@edlaverack no idea, that's just what I call it! 🤣 Also, that wind (I was told) is 'The Helm Wind' - the only named wind in the UK.
Best climb in the uk; perfectly executed. Has to be done at least once every year.👌
nice one Ed! as high as you can legally get in the UK then!!
Top work pal 👏👏👏
Unreal effort ed !

Wow, just Wow. Full ride with commentary would be great.

6.1w/kg with those downhills too? Impressive! Well done!
@@swites no downhills, just less steep 😃
Race with commentary for sure!!!
Deadly barbed wire to run into at the end too 😆
Mind boggling as always! Great shift 🎉
Thank you 🙌
Bealach Na Ba (Applecross,Scotland)
I think it's over 9km continuous
This is the highest climb in the U.K. “that they use for a hill climb”. Sadly Applecross is not used in a hill climb event, as much as I’d love it to!
That's insane. I still can't get my head around guys beating you on The Grade.... They must be pros using nom de plumes.
Indoor specialists perhaps we could call them, but at the end of the day they are all top riders so you'd expect a few to be similar abilities.
Mountain biked up pen y fan it was awsome , riding back down was even better 👌
I’ll have to try that!
Rode up this climb for first time 6 weeks ago, it is savage.
Laverack 🚀🚀🚀
Big shout out to Rock to Roll CC for putting on the race ❤🏔️💥

Cracking video Ed and very well done. 💪👑👏👏👏 Look forward to seeing the full video, commentary and further insight preferred from me too please. 👍
Thanks 👍
When I went the other week it was so misty you couldn't see the golf ball at the gate!
The big hill. 🥰
Saw a few stickers on signs😜
crazy
What off bike excerise do you do. A video would be good. As it can't just be more cycling..or I hope not
Strength training, hiking from time to time
6:04 passing Simon Warren! 💯%
Are you not allowed to ride up to the golf ball now . I’ve been to the top no problem on the knock Ventoux Audax 3 times
Yes you are. I think just for today they didn’t need to take us there because the course finishes at this gate
Can one go up it with gearing 36 - 28 🙈
Who everested GDF Ed? Cycling eh!😁
😂😂
Do the commentary.
Done it once. Bloody awful!
Absolute horrible climb, howling headwind on a sunny calm day everywhere else. Never again.
Haha!! Better descent!
