Brilliant setup with the data screens Ed, very intresting commentary on how you pace these longer climbs and the WT Pro VAM details , that looks a great climb too.
Really enjoy the hill climbing videos, I found a hard climb near me yesterday, it was too hard for me, I ran out of gears and couldn't make it up. If anyone is up for a challenge and is in the area, it starts at shibden mill inn, up Blake hill and across to howes lane, it's not long (just over 1km) but it was too hard for me, I'd love to see a clip of someone completing it.
I did col de la loze from the bottom this summer. Strava had only recorded 589 people riding up it. 95 people in my age group . I’ve been riding since 1978 and it’s the hardest climb I have ever done!
That's a flippin beautiful climb mate. You say you dropped off power at the end, and kinda bummed about it, but to me you paced that to perfection. You put the power down where it was needed: at the steep part. Everything after that is mostly 6% where the gains would've been much smaller with 30-40w more vs where you actually put that down. If you put it all out there, I don't think you should've done anything different pacing wise. And then the speed you are doing on the 16% gradients is just 🤯 Hope we'll be able to do another vacation in the UK in a year or 2 (some other things planned first), and I'd love to ride this one, though I'm not sure I'll make it up there without stopping. >10% gradients are still well beyond 110% FTP for me.
Totally bang on Marco. I think the next UK trip could certainly have the North of England on the cards, plenty to see and do even if you weren't on two wheels!
Ed, I love the video, but I don't agree with your comment about the tailwind not helping on the steeper sections. The first time I did it back in 92, I felt disappointed because the tailwind made it too easy. 😠
😃I appreciate it does help of course. What I meant was in term of speed, a tailwind helps more when you move faster because you don’t have to ride as hard for the same speed or more speed even. On a steeper grade such as that 16%, you don’t gain so much.

Really enjoyed that one. Glad you did the full vid. Never any doubt! Chapeau! 🍾
Great video. This was a fascinating insight into a climb that's still on my to-do list! Thanks!
Fantastic, really enjoyed this video. Great ride. Like to see more like this, as i'm sure many others would.
You made that look so easy. Chapeau 👏👏👏
Stunning scenery, definitely need to get that one dialled into my travel plans for next year! Great effort.
You should!
Brill ride Ed 👍 (thanks for reminding me of my one and only time up there.)
Great video! Have you ever done Bealach na Ba? Would be awesome to see you climb it 🙌🏼
Not yet! One day!
Is a MOD early warning radar station and it's known locally as the golf ball
Great video Ed , live near it and still too nervous to do it 🫣👍
It’s not that bad if you’re not smashing it and have decent gears.
Big fan of the overlay - wish I could set my Garmin up like that!

You are a beast 💪💪

Hey Ed, what do you use for overlay software?

The golf ball is a radar for air traffic control
When I see a rider in front of me I can't help adding more power to overtake them...
Nice. Algo algo
