I have a 2018 Seat Ibiza (technically nearly the same as the current Polo) with the DSG transmission and the start-stop system is by far the worst feature of this otherwise excellent car! The engine restart is very slow, so I always turn it off. However, due to start-stop reactivating every time upon restart of the engine, one sometimes forgets about it, and at the next intersection a dangerous situation may occur since the car doesn't take off with the agility that one expects (and the engine is so quiet that one easily misses it being stopped!). The minimal fuel saving from the start-stop is not worth the dangerous situations that this system is repeatedly creating. Once warranty is over, it will be disabled.

Just reading few of the comments wondering are you guys driving VW or something else. Stop/Start only gets activated when the car comes to complete stop and break paddle is pressed or hand break is activated on automatic OR neutral is selected on manual cars. If your car stops other than these two conditions mentioned above, there maybe two reasons for this, 1. You battery running out of power, needs replacing soon. 2. There maybe a electrical problem (mostly wrong type of battery is used as STOP/START needs specific types of battery) which needs to investigated.
VW stop/start is one of the best in class, however if you want to disable it you can do it via the CAR SETTING or by pressing STOP/START activation button near to the gear box.

I had a 2004 GTI that had deadly ESP. After filling up the gas I would have to egress by taking a right turn into 55mph oncoming traffic. GTIs are fast so there shouldn't be a problem pulling out. But it you forgot to turn off ESP (which reverts to back on when you start the car) the car would brake instead of accelerate because of trivial wheel slip, putting you in a life threatening situation. It was only 6 months old and had 6000 miles when we were struck by lightning on the highway totaling the car. When I got the insurance money I said no way am I buying another one of these and waited until the mk5 2006 GTI was released which doesn't have scary ESP.

The car had decided to turn off and didnt restart! (Because I opened the door it wouldnt restart, but because I opened the door I couldnt have realized it turned off) The car turned off when I wasnt looking, I didnt do it so I didn't realize, then it allowed me to continue and put myself and others in a dangerous situation, someone could have gotten hurt or died, and that would be a lawsuit for sure.

While the feature works for me half the time, i have often unintentionally annoyed drivers behind me when the start stop doesn't resume driving when i press the accelerator during a traffic light break.
What it leaves me doing in such instance is moving the gear up to P, restarting the engine, and then moving selector to D before being able to drive off. However infrequent this might be, it is upsetting and in my view dangerous so I am wondering if it is a defect in my car or am I doing something wrong?
I have checked the manual but the verbose instruction is brain-destroying and I am almost certain that this problem isn't even highlighted in the handbook - from when I checked at least :(
I think being able to deselect the feature altogether would be a winner.

One reason every VW I have had since 1972 had a manual transmission is if I want to pull out fast I can rev the engine then drop the clutch at the optimal moment and scream away without any fear of sluggishness or stalling. With an automatic you have to wait for the engine to spool up making it harder to pull out. I need an explanation of the correct procedure to have the same take off confidence while utilizing the stop-start system? If I have the clutch pushed in and the engine is off, how do I rev it up in preparation to take off?

  • @les2935
    @les2935 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

In an automatic car, it cuts out while you are moving slowly, which kills the power steering. not what you want when parking your car. If you are in bumper to bumper traffic it is constantly stopping and starting every time the car in front moves.
If you roll up to a give way junction, ready to pull away if it's clear the engine (and power steering) stops.
The logic for a manual car should not have been used for an auto as it operates differently.
it was programmed by an idiot

The Start-Stop System is the worst feature ever invented in the history of car manufacturing! I hope all manufacturers will swallow their pride and remove it. I have never met a single driver that actually liked it!

This functionality is not interesting I wait for the electric car from VW this make sense in that combination Gasoline cars is just a mess there are to many rules to many parts running I don’t like this system I preferred to have this on . So I Can wait for the VW electric I hopes the investment pay out for VW I’m optimistic don’t take me wrong loved the Gasoline engine but is time to the next level and I speak from the Engineering way after the invention of the locomotive 250 years pistons is the past is time for evolving and get to the next level ( I know electric cars was invented already over 100 years ago but today the technology is much more advanced)
And I drive VW the best engine for me and is the 5 cylinder absolutely great Combination but good video thank you for the tutorial VW

Gino Latino you can disable it in some models, ask someone to assist you on that. Mine has a switch to do so, maybe they added later, or in certain models

You need to turn it off each time you get in the car. Like choosing driving modes too I think. Stupid really. You need the odb tool I think then you can code it or switch it off for good.
