Please keep the podcasts going! You busted the first few out so quick and then nothing for a while there. They are so insightful and my favorite content of yours to listen to while I’m working.
Thank you for making these videos, it is inspiring to listen to how different developers go through their journeys and have success. It helps my mentality, and keeps it from breaking up. Living in Costa Rica, and trying to start as an indie solo dev, has been quite the ride for me. This profession is starting to rise here, and my traditional family thinks of it as something odd to work on. I'm giving it my 110% percent every day, and my first video game is now starting to take shape. Unfortunately, being unemployed, not able to find another job, with a wife and 2 kids, living off the little money my last job gave me after they fired me at the start of this year, has made it way more difficult than I thought it would be. But I'll never ever surrender, and I won't give up my dreams. Both of you, Chris and Thomas, thank you! And to all those indie devs out there, YOU CAN DO IT!
I absolutely love the fact you guys talked about your faith and as a new subscriber I'm definitely learning a lot from you. Peace and blessings to you and your family 🙏 from Georgia.
firstly, I am new to your channel and have been going through a lot of your videos over the last few days. secondly, I admire you so much for being upfront and forthcoming with your faith and the journey that both of you are on. This touched my soul in a way that I am currently reeling in, due to a recent jobloss. The hurt I have from being let go and feeling like I have let myself, my family, and others down for the work I was doing and now nothing to show for, has made me rethink who I am as a person and what drives me to do what I do. My love for Jesus has been a central focus over the last four weeks and how I need to see my inheritance in Heaven, over the world I live in has changed my outlook. The way the two of you talked through those things made me so thankful for stumbling upon your channel. Thank you Thomas and Chris. If I don't see you IRL, I hope to someday see you in Heaven to say thank you.
I had massive amounts of respect for you Thomas merely on the merits of your skill and willingness to share your experiences and knowledge on game dev. After this interview I have even more respect for you, and now for Chris Skaggs as well. Being a Christian in the video game industry is a tumultuous thing because seemingly everyone is against you in one way or another. It's refreshing and encouraging to see others in this industry expressing their faith openly, thanks for making this video and for hosting this interview and thanks to Skaggs as well for being willing to share. Definitely encouraging stuff for a fledgling dev.
You have no idea of what this podcast meant to me. I was recently in a hard time, dueling some ideas. Long story short, I became a Christian 8 months ago after 20 years openly, but respectfully, being an atheist. I always loved music, but I took a hiatus of 10 years. Which was when I started my game design graduation. Recently I felt like going back to music, I spent an year re-learning piano and guitar on top of bass which is my favorite instrument. I was in a deep conflict, because...to be honest I felt like Thomas, I wanted to be respected, but I didn't want the respect of...well unequally yoke people. I felt like I had to make a big leap to the music, classic music, join an orchestra or something. I had some revelations when I open my digital bible, for the whole past week every random verse was about being a musician or aimed to musicians(Psalms 4, Psalms 77, Psalms 139) one after the other. I was almost convicted I should drop from the gamedev industry, which I felt like there were only progressive liberal people, nothing against them, but as I said, they aren't the people I want to be with in this chapter of my journey. It was by watching this video that I remembered a project I made back in 2018 about learning music theory(pigdev.itch.io/bard-lesson) which back when I launched was a huge success in terms of feedback. I want to be with people like you guys, and thanks to this video I think I have clarity of the next steps on my journey. Thank you so much!
@@TreeFallStudios - … kinda… we released Act 1 on Xbox and PS4 a few years ago but we’ve grown and improved it so much since then that it’s not even the same game. For one thing, Acts 2 and 3 never got pushed to consoles nor did all the improvements that went along with that development.
As a queer person, and an entrepreneur wanting to break out into indie game development to build queer horror games, I really love how open you all are about your identity WHILE being respectful in including all identities, specifically around the 24:00 mark. I really love this idea of “voice of fear”. Tackling that as an LGBT entrepreneur with a niche market has been a huge hurdle to tackle, it’s inspiring to hear others with experience in this field resonating the same positive encouragement.
I saw one of your videos where you walk through making a game in 60mins. I wondered if you knew of any resource where I could find the general terms/names of code. As someone who is completely a beginner at C# often I know what I want but don’t know how to even google it- as I don’t know the technical term.
please i need something detailed about game development, im just starting and i cant find any video that is detailed about building a game engine and the coding for the game also
do you use apple m2 technology or windows computers, to make your 3D games😎 (rly vant macbook m2 max but questioning if it's adequate technology for the yob, fanboy personification not included -- i hate hot rooms & fan noise which is why i am delineating from windows computers & asking the question forward)
Personally, from my experience, don't use Mac OS for game development, especially the new arm architecture! The software is pretty buggy, always crashing, and slow. I recommend spending the same amount to build a Windows PC or laptop. But if really the type of person who uses a laptop without being plugged in all the time, the MacBook is a pretty good laptop. I can open Unity and do stuff for hours!
First you have to constantly make videos/vlogs (content). They won’t say it but, Thomas is getting paid from basically youtube videos as he has been doing it for a while. Trust you have to grind to be able to quit cause you will need passive income. Just going to be honest. He also gets paid by sponsors from your views👍. Hope you enjoy the knowledge cause everyone can’t do it without income.
An hour video just to tell us how we can make money? Come on. Give us the gist of this so we don't have to hear you guys ramble on & on & on. Very boring.
I would have watched more if it wasn't so religious. Just talk about games :D Trust me id be on board if someone could prove it. But it's like me saying there are pink elephants in the Andromeda galaxy. Appeal to ignorance.

I'd love to see a video breaking down your journey in learning Coding/C#, I find this is the most daunting task in game development.
mannnnn what a podcast episode! Incredibly insightful all the way through
Your website has a small typo! In the 2023 update section it says "3 Bonus 2D Art Turorials".
Woah this is gonna be a cool episode. I loved the Redwall series growing up, interested to hear his story!
BTW - if a shameless plug is acceptable, we’re building up to a nice update that will get The Scout on consoles as well

I appreciate that @amovetoremember. I’m fascinated to see what a queer horror game would be too. :)
