At first, I was kind of salty when I saw this. I spent over 5 years on Scratch trying to get popular as a kid, but I never got popular. I put a lot of time and effort into my projects, but I never saw any returns. But, your origin story was honestly kind of inspiring, and it made me realize I was making games for the wrong reasons. I was trying to get popular, instead of trying to make good games. I don't intend on going back to Scratch, but I do feel like looking at my new games with a different perspective.

I don't know why I never thought that the creator of crystal seeker was a real human.... and to now know you made more fully fledged games, it's crazy man! I switched away from scratch a few years ago now and I never really got fully into other game engines. I felt like the barrier to entry was just too high. I also miss programming some of the fundamentals like physics and 3d renderers. Seeing how you use this platform as an honest large-scale creative tool is inspiring and maybe I'll come back at some point.
I love Scratch's block system, actually. I much prefer it to text-based code that breaks easily with syntax errors off of the slightest typo you can't find, and having to remember every little prompt and setup for every little thing. It especially helps me as someone with memory problems who only codes for fun on some occasions. Keep on making Scratch games as you wish, I just followed you there and subscribed here. Can't wait to experience your other content!
If there was a professional engine that was as easy and convenient as Scratch, everyone and their mothers would be making games lmao. But as a wise Pixar villain once said, if everyone's super, no one is.
?? Loads of game engines can be used for professional games that use blocks such as gdevelop. But if ur making a professional game using code is way better as you can make more features.

1. Scratch allows you to sell your games as long as you don't share them on their website. Also, there's packagers that lets you run Scratch projects as an .exe file (Most noteably Turbowarp). 2. Speaking of that, there's Turbowarp. An open source Scratch clone with .sb3 support and extensions that can't run on the Scratch website like native gamepad support, stretch, etc. as well as 60fps native or interpoltation and other features like higher/smaller resolution and more. Asteroid, a game on Steam, runs on Turbowarp and the creator is working on a new one that's supposed to come out sometime this year.
My 3 favourite scratchers have always been you, griffpatch, and pinpoint. I have seen other scratchers create great projects, but these 3 scratchers really pushed scratch beyond its limits. I think I've narrowed my favourite scratcher down to you. I feel like I am im the middle of your journey. At first my mom got me into coding classes. Then when I understood enough, I made projects that I actually felt were good at the time, but are clearly a spec of dust compared to yours. I quit around a year ago, only making projects for school. I have had no interest in scratch at all until I saw this video. You deserve every sub is youtube for your determination, and 1000+ IQ.

Didnt watch the Video now but Scratch just is my favourite Game Engine. Also I just realized that Scratch is one of the only Programming Languages that dont have Errors, you just cant make Mistakes, also love it that you dont have to spend 80 percent of the time debugging, cus there are only logic bugs and no compiler errors or syntax errors

100% vectoid 3d is the best. I got all my friends on school to play it for a year amazing 10/10. These days only generic projects get recognition but that is a true masterpiece
Thats actually a great spin off from BTD6. I like all the new enemys, thats a thing i miss in BTD6. Im happy you kept the original theme and didnt make something completly crazy out of BTD6. I might look into it although ive never used or heard scratch before :3 But in the end, im a potential new player so great that you do advertisement.

My problem with scratch isn't the limitations to the code and model design (Which are pretty problematic), it's the censorships. The scratch team will cencor your project for bacically anything they find inappropriate. But I find your scratch journey totally inspireing, and I hope you find a way to monetize your games! ❤
Hey, i've used scratch for a long time, if you have problems running games, you can use Turbocharge, basically scratch but it writes all your code in JS so it runs way faster. It would be cool to see the 3d game especially running way faster.
i remember i saw a small copy of minecraft where you can put and destroy blocks, you have inventory you can move and jump as well, the area was about 100 x 100 blocks randomly generated and it was made in FRICKING SCRATCH. p.s. I've just seen, DUDE YOU'RE CRAZY, you made a 3D GAME in 2d kids program, and you add the possibility of making lvl, i hope you'll get a millions of subs

This video is really good, and really entertaining. I should be very happy to see a video like this from the guy who made games like crystal seeker 3d. Also, when talking about your closest tower defense attempt you said you were still using clones at that point which is why you never finished it. Are you against using clones? If so, why? Since I’m still technically a beginner to Scratch is it ok for me to still use clones? Should I eventually move on to not using clones? And should I stick to clones if I want to?
You could use clones as long they don't have dynamic complex interactions with other sprites. In case of tower defense, some projectiles had pierce, which means they need to damage exactly certain number of enemies. This is problem with clones because you can only check does they collide with another sprite or not, which makes "piercing" impossible to make. The solution is to put each enemy and projectile data into lists (position, type...), and then you manually check collision. Practically you could still use clones in this situation, but having data in lists give much more freedom, like prioritizing rendering for one type of enemies, which is annoying to do with clones/layers. In conclusion, of course you could use clones, because Scratch very intentionally put them, but if you want to make anything with >>dynamic complex interactions

I use scratch and ive gotten really good over the years, but I really only make stuff for the joy of making them, not to be made as finished products. I put them together for my needs because I find it fun, not to make it work or fit others needs or wants.

Good thing you switched back to Scratch before you got too used to Unity, because if you got to used to Unity right now, it would be hard to change to Scratch or something else (due to Unities greedy CEO).
Being the barrier of entry to play a scratch game way lower than any other makes people willing to try different game ideas (kinda like it used to be with flash), so it's easier to throw stuff out there to see if it sticks
Yeah, just your audience is very limited to younger people, where most most indie games are bought by people who don't use scratch. But still, knowledge is transferable to other groups...
@@ggenije just like with flash, is really useful to try very specific or weird game concepts and getting an idea how much people might be interested on them. There's a reason a lot of flash developers later came to make popular indie games
It is so sad that scratch is very slow because making 3d games can be less rewarding. Turbowarp is cool but the process of making a game can be very laggy. I am helping making a game called FrostX a fps and a scratch game usually runs on 30 fps but our fps runs 20 on scratch which is very annoying you also have to stop the whole game from running before you add more blocks to your code since it is THAT laggy. btw this game did win yoshihome’s recent game contest.
I got a little famous on scratch (I made MOONWALK) and honestly I know this sounds kinda bad but what inspires me the most is thinking of if I made the game outside of Scratch as a mobile game with ads or something, and every view were 1$. That's what blows my mind. 😅 Side note: I LOVE your 3d tower defense! It may even be one of the best tower defense games of all time for me
I honestly wanted to try your reglitcher original game, but i couldn't find it and when I finally did Google Play said it wasn't compatible with my phone, so maybe that's part of the problem? I guess it only works with tablets maybe? I see the scratch version is mobile friendly so I'll get to try that one at least
@@ggenije *3. It may be due to aspect ratio, but exporting the project in a newer unity version should work, not that that would fix the standard unity game bugs (no sweat). The api version is fine, but something else causes google play store to hide it. It's more common to do that now.

I actually love making my own spin off games of popular games in scratch and its actually really fun and sometimes even challanging
It's one of my favourite things to do lol. Saves time on idea thinking, plus the fact that it's normally is a fun challenge.

I use scratch and ive gotten really good over the years, but I really only make stuff for the joy of making them, not to be made as finished products. I put them together for my needs because I find it fun, not to make it work or fit others needs or wants.

Good thing you switched back to Scratch before you got too used to Unity, because if you got to used to Unity right now, it would be hard to change to Scratch or something else (due to Unities greedy CEO).
The current unity pricing is also really cursed now

Being the barrier of entry to play a scratch game way lower than any other makes people willing to try different game ideas (kinda like it used to be with flash), so it's easier to throw stuff out there to see if it sticks
Yeah, just your audience is very limited to younger people, where most most indie games are bought by people who don't use scratch. But still, knowledge is transferable to other groups...
@@ggenije just like with flash, is really useful to try very specific or weird game concepts and getting an idea how much people might be interested on them.
There's a reason a lot of flash developers later came to make popular indie games
ive been using scratch since i was 5! I remember playing crystal seeker when it came out too, it's dope af. I switched to unity and now godot :)

It is so sad that scratch is very slow because making 3d games can be less rewarding. Turbowarp is cool but the process of making a game can be very laggy. I am helping making a game called FrostX a fps and a scratch game usually runs on 30 fps but our fps runs 20 on scratch which is very annoying you also have to stop the whole game from running before you add more blocks to your code since it is THAT laggy.
btw this game did win yoshihome’s recent game contest.

I got a little famous on scratch (I made MOONWALK) and honestly I know this sounds kinda bad but what inspires me the most is thinking of if I made the game outside of Scratch as a mobile game with ads or something, and every view were 1$. That's what blows my mind. 😅
Side note: I LOVE your 3d tower defense! It may even be one of the best tower defense games of all time for me

I honestly wanted to try your reglitcher original game, but i couldn't find it and when I finally did Google Play said it wasn't compatible with my phone, so maybe that's part of the problem? I guess it only works with tablets maybe? I see the scratch version is mobile friendly so I'll get to try that one at least

@@ggenije *3. It may be due to aspect ratio, but exporting the project in a newer unity version should work, not that that would fix the standard unity game bugs (no sweat). The api version is fine, but something else causes google play store to hide it. It's more common to do that now.
@tutacat when I opened it in the newer version , everything got broken. It's not worth it.
hey man, you could make the crystal seeker level editor available to use and to publish levels on cloud, so that everyone can play user created levels
You have forum for levels. Also, the editor is not very user-friendly.

i've used snap but now i use turbowarp instead because snap is buggy and slow, always freezes and crashes
