  • How to remove and replace the BCM (body control module) on a 2003 to 2010 Nissan Micra K12. The BCM is responsible for monitoring and controlling various electronic accessories in a vehicle's body. In a car the BCM typically controls the power windows, power mirrors, air conditioning, immobilizer system, central locking, etc. If your BCM begins to malfunction, you will notice a negative effect on the operation of the various parts that the BCM commands and it’s likely that you’ll experience one or more of the following symptoms:
    1. Repeated Battery Drain
One of the most common symptoms associated with BCM failure is repeated, excessive battery drain, also known as a parasitic draw. While a certain amount of parasitic draw is permissible, excessive draw caused by a BCM fault can drain a battery in hours. This draw can occur when a BCM continues to supply power to a particular accessory at incorrect times.
    2. Erratic Electrical Function
A faulty BCM can also cause intermittent operation of various electrical functions, such as a vehicle’s wipers, lights, and horn. Erratic, sweeping instrument cluster dials are also a sign of BCM failure, as is irregular door lock and radio operation. The issues are more likely to be caused by a faulty BCM when more than one of these symptoms are present at any given time.
    3. Security System Problems
In nearly every instance, a vehicle’s security system is operated by the BCM. Therefore, it is easy to assume that consistent, yet unusual issues associated with a vehicle’s security system, are caused by a failing or faulty BCM. This could also include problems with a vehicle’s keyless-entry or passive-entry functions.
    4. Dash Warning Lights
A faulty BCM can cause havoc with a vehicle’s instrument cluster. An otherwise normal dash display can suddenly be illuminated like a Christmas tree. This occurs when a BCM is unable to communicate with one more of a vehicle’s additional control modules, such as the transmission control module, powertrain control module, or airbag control module.
    5. Failure To Start
A non-functioning or faulty BCM can also prevent a vehicle from starting at all, in certain cases. Although rare, a bad BCM can fail to identify the key’s transponder chip, or can simply fail to deliver a start signal from a vehicle’s ignition switch, thereby preventing starter engagement. A lack of communication by the BCM with other corresponding control modules can also lead to starting difficulties. Thanks for watching. Please comment, like and subscribe !.

Hi, my wife's K12 C+C is having an issue with the hazard warning lights and alarm coming on randomly (even when driving!) and not being able to switch them off. Is it likely that this could be down to a faulty BCM? Also, if I switch like for like in terms of the model number would it still need to be reprogrammed? Thanks.

Hi! I was looking for the central locking receiver module & would like to know where it is located. The central locking signal does not work very well at the moment & it might be the OLD car battery (not fob battery) problem? But I was thinking it might be the central locking receiver not responding to the signal from the fob & needing replacing? Is the receiver in the BCM? or situated else where? Thanks for your help with this. I your videos re the K12 Micra are very helpful. How about one to stop leak from rear getting into Boot/Trunk area & rear seating foot well? Is it a problem with the rear lights seals needing replacing? I have asked Nissan for a replacement part & been told that they are no longer available. I will make my own! if that is the problem. Thanks again for your reply.

I think the receiver is built into the BCM unit. As for the light seal, the part number is 26558AX600. I'm not sure if you can get a new one anywhere but it's worth having a look around.

Will you also need to have the new BCM re-coded to your vehicle? I think I read that somewhere. Or would a straight swap from a wrecker work? Pretty sure mins has given up as have the Christmas tree lights and also car only starts when heated seats turned on.

I think you're right, they usually have to be reprogrammed by a dealer

Dou you have to reprogram the new used BCM on a 2010 Nissan Altima? If yes how do you do and how much it costs?

Dear ScrewsNutsAndBolts, Thank you for your reply & taking the time to share your knowledge of where the receiver for the key fob signal is located. Could you tell me if the BCM were to be replaced would you need to have a OBD II to reprogram the new unit? Thanks again for your help with this.

I think it would need to be reprogrammed with specialist equipment but I'm not 100% sure

Hi I have a 2011 k13 micra that I have done the BCM swap with a wrecker one, now the car can crank but wont's start, I was wondering is it a BCM reprogram needed? Thanks in advance!

I'm not 100% sure about the K13 Micra but some bcms from different cars need to be flashed or reprogrammed for them to work in different vehicles, to pair with the transponder etc.

My understanding was that if you disconnected the battery, reprogramming would not be required. Is that correct?

    • @screwsnutsandbolts
      @screwsnutsandbolts  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, you only need to reprogram a new bcm or one from a different vehicle

Just make sure you're fully pressing in the release tabs and wiggle the the plugs around.
