With *consistent* Sadhana, Pranayama naturally transitions into Pratyhara. after ~2 hours of focused Pranayama, it takes about 20 minutes just to re-orient to the external world.. For example, I can't simply open my eyes. It requires covering my eyes with my hands and slowly creating gaps for light to gently hit my eyes. ( 'withdrawal of eyesight') Appetite & need for food decreases. The mind starts experiencing the body as a cause-effect machine, so healthier food choices are automatically chosen. Rarely eating for taste, but instead for the nutrients and thinking of the effects a food will have on the body. ( 'withdrawal of the taste sense') This requires shifting life from a Bhogi to a Yogi (indulger to seeker)
"Vasudev Murthy's explanation of Pratyahara from the book 'Yogasutras Simplified' beautifully highlights the depth and importance of this component within the eight limbs of yoga. It's fascinating to delve into the wisdom and insights shared by such a knowledgeable author."🙏🌞
We consider 4 imp steps Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama or the art of control of prana/ impulses. These impulses are received from :- 1. Food & Drink 2. Breathing 3. the sensations of sound, smell, touch, taste & sight. The fifth step is Pratyahara. All the 4 steps together form the art of Pratyahara. The 4 steps bring one to the bank of a river. Then there is the river & then there is the other bank. One the other side is the master waiting for the sincere disciple to come. the disciple has after a long journey come to the bank of the river. This river we call as fifth step of Pratyahara. What is then pratyahara? We can say it is the process of collecting the powers of the mind and restraining them from going out to external objects. Namaha Shivaya ⚛
Interviewer fully focused on active listening instead of focusing on what is being said. Actually that's a perfect metaphor, what a blessed coincidence.
Tu bhai depression mai lagta hai. What they are talking about is, achieving Samadhi, so if you already achieved this, the logical next step would be Samadhi for you and you should also be able to hold concentration on something for extended period of time (Dhayana), have control over your breathing (Pranayama)….. there are the eight limbs of Paranjali Yoga.
Love everything around you, animate and inanimate, unconditionally , the doors of the eternal opens , the unifying light floods in. If our senses are creating the distractions then Patanjali is there to help us control them. Even after controlling senses we have to unify ourselves with the eternal and that is possible only through identification with the ONE and universal love is the only practical way. The rest is a self oriented spiritual goal .
Insightful. It resonates with my understanding. It's getting more and more in these experiences. The more we can first withdraw from the sense objects, and then the senses, we develop resilience against bad habits.
There are no tricks ,only way is let go and realize that true nature of heart is love. And that blissfull state will take you to a destination that doesnt have a path...

That's what I thought. He said Patanjali discusses it in many ways. Would be interesting to know which book it's in. Because we know patanjali wrote more than just the Yoga sutras. So, which text is being referred to here?
deep misunderstanding of Pratyahara and Patanjali. misunderstanding of the role of senses. misunderstanding the difference between sensations and perceptions, basically, this guy act like he knows what he is talking about, but he clearly does not.
@@TheDevaserpratyahara is not about rejecting the sense its is rather turning your attention (awareness) from outside to inward towards the self. It cannot be achieved through ego only letting go of control (Wu wei/Viragya) can automatically do it when you are completely absorbed in watchful(mindful) state.
@@srikrishnavasanth3895You are right, that critisising without correcting is not very constructive, so I owe you some. keep in mind that it is going to be very very simplified and sumarised. Pratyahara Sadhana(practice) consist of 3 parts. 1. Sharpenning your senses (and not only 5). On initiation level you spent at least 1 week with each sense 24/7. This part include understanding the difference between sensation and perception, learning the anathomy and physiology of sense organs... and trying to keep perception as filtered as possible. 2. controle of your senses. This include lot of imagination and concentration work, where at the end you sense with your eyes close or open, with your ears pluged or free etc. whatever you want to sense. this part is very similar to wester magic practises. 3. withdrawl of senses. It is continuation of the 2nd part, only the goal is empty screen, no interaction with the outside world.

Why do you picturise the Indian Patanjali methods -contents -qualities with the pictures of westerners ? In my opinion it should show the practices of Indians!
Even the manifestations as Prophets and sages to restore balance on earth is a maya and that is why they are yogmaya. Maya means "what is not" or "what seems to be" not the reality. That is why Krishna is God's manifestation or yogmaya not God Himself. Krishna took birth, ate and took rest, made mistakes, made right decisions and even died. So Krishna was not God but God's Prophet, Messenger, Bhagavan or Sage. When Krishna spoke he spoke sometimes as a medium of God and sometimes as a human. People get confused by this type of humans and their words because sometimes they speak from God as "first person" and sometimes as "second person or third person" while delivering God's messages. Reality or God doesn't have a form. Building statues or artwork depicting those Messengers doesn't depict God. It isn't even the Messengers because those Messengers died and these statues or artworks are imaginations of how they looked like not themselves in flesh and bones. You can give puja or in other words show respect to a living Messenger but how can you give puja to a statue or image? This act itself is adharma because it denied reality and follows maya...
Don't add the Abrahmic philosophy to the dharmik philosophy. There's nothing which is not God, the realisation of this reality is Moksha Nirvana Liberation or whatever term you wanna give it. Krishna is not a sage or prophet and he is not speaking on behalf of God, he is The God himself. He realised his godhood and came back to Maya to play with it, that's what Avtar do.
@@AdvitiyaVyas If you want to prove Abrahamic philosophy as inferior to vedic ones then bring a single verse that proves it. And the fundamentals of Faith are universal and cannot be changed in any age. The only thing that can change is law or how to lead a life. So your view of dharma or Faith is also erroneous. Regarding Krishna as God Himself is itself against teachings of Krishna or Veda. No form can be imagined of God. Krishna himself also says, he is the yogmaya of God. Do you know what is maya? It means what is not. So like all prophets and sages Krishna was just a human and a manifestation of God not God Himself.

Great video.
EXPLAINED WELL
It is illusion to think senses are meant to mislead .. u will never know reality then

Who are these two and what course are they talking about?
The gentleman who explains Pratyahara is the author of the book Yogasutras Simplified, Shri Vasudev Murthyji

We have more then five senses.
Which are necessary are 5
