In this very special episode, we had with us former IAS officer Dr. Vivek Atray, he worked in the civil services for over 26 years. Today, apart from being an orator, author, and coach for many young students, he is also an inspiration, dedicated practitioner, and member of YSS, also referred to as a 'kriyaban'. Link to join YSS: yssofindia.org/yss-lessons
Conversation with someone who is on the path of advanced meditation is truly very special. As spoken about in the show before, I had been initiated to the Yogananda Satsanga Society (or YSS) Self-realization program.

From being someone who used to consume a lot of alcohol till the age of 22, to now experiencing a path to chase enlightenment has been enriching. Being inspired by the book "Autobiography of a Yogi", I decided to begin my spiritual journey with the help of YSS and Kriya Yoga. This episode is to introduce spiritual seekers to advanced meditation techniques & Kriya Yoga.
"Your spiritual career will benefit your material career. It'll give you the tools required to kill it in your professional life." ~ Ranveer Allahbadia
Today, I am a big believer of my spiritual practices. At the same time, I urge everyone listening to this episode to embrace spirituality in one form or the other.

At the end what Ranveer talks about....I think it's a dangerous game to think that meditation can change your material world and give you everything you want in life, because (despite that being true on some level) ultimately what that is doing is re-enforcing or creating the ego's desires and identities and also placing expectation and meaning on meditation...in my experience meditation is more fruitful when not placing any expectation on it except for dissolving into the true Self.

@@Arviploverakhewarunless u experience it by learning kriya u can't go forward. Ur mind will create many delusions. It is the ultimate trickster because self realisation means death of mind which it doesn't want so it will give u thoughts like "rational" "irrational". What is considered as rational is a pattern of narrow thoughts imbided from childhood via society's programming which will limit u. Kriya is about doing and experiencing. Do it and you will experience something.

The Kriya Yoga of Paramahansa Yogananda is what Mahavatar Babaji gave to Lahiri Mahasaya as his mission to spread. This is a particular lineage that carries the original, authentic Kriya Yoga. Many take the name of Kriya Yoga because Yogananda made it famous. Others may be very helpful, tradional practice, but what Mahavatar Babaji gave to Lahiri Mahasaya is not in books, given only in Initiation, and through the lineage from Lahiri Mahasaya and Paramahansa Yogananda.

As a Christian i end up in to have the dot connected in previous month where i call the most silent day i have ever had, where i had my new eyes opened of who I Am , or what God is, having reach this moment i deeply know that there is no turning back, the old identity was shattered into pieces.
Prior to this i was lead into Kriya Yoga, which i never imagined i could personally want to start practice ever, not even have a slight interest on doing any type of Yoga before but then i stumbled upon Kriya for some reason, i felt i attracted to its simplicity and i think i could mold the practice in my current daily life. So i began to practice it for at least several weeks already, 15th days today to be exact, and to be honest i just do the practice sincerely since i know i have no access to any Guru that would initiate me on this specific Kriya Yoga, i just know that if i have a pure heart on this practice, i even believe that Sri Guru Mahavatr Babaji would personally came to me in any form and this is somewhere anytime it would happen which im not worried at all, i just had this feeling of being humble for being alone in this place, so far away from India, and living in this Christian community in Islamic country, it does not pressure me at all in fact it makes me want to commit and diligently do this practice.
So during this weeks i found during my sleep or laying down resting on the bed or at chair, i can easily slip out from the physical body, it become so natural that i felt not too comfortable of leaving the body at all time, around 10-12 years ago i used to train hard on breathing meditation and mind control to get some experience of Out of body or Astral projection but it seems to become very natural now, so i know it has to be because my energy body has almost fully cleared on its each energy centre, so in this process this natural process of detachment from the body could occur naturally as the cause of the energy body being stabilized or gain its original form, so this is just the beginning, i know everyone would go through this eye opening experience depends on their circumstances, but honestly when doing practice of Kriya Yoga, i never had any slightest of hidden motive or seeking for like superior experience or super powers or anything like that, i just want to do this because first i want my energy body is on its purest and stable form, especially all this centre being active and cleared, and want to join the unity or oneness with the creator blissfully or whatever you call it as my end goal.

Kriya yoga is imparted only to initiates for a very good reason. Once initiated, you are under the protection of the entire Lineage starting with Mahaavtar Babaji and Lahiri Mahasay who are the teachers of Swami Yukteshwar, Paramhanmsa Yogananda, etc. The technique involves elements of yoga that can be extremely dangerous for those who are not placed under this protection. Keeping the Gurus constantly in mind is absolutely essential.

Brother...you are making good things.! Its really nice.. But
you said that preliminary exercises are for warming the body... No.definitely not.. Yogoda Energization Exercises are for harmonising the body by distributing prana shakti to all the parts of the body.
Which is of course preparing yourself for yogic practices.
But if any one thinks that miracle will happen after getting initiated into Kriya they are definitely in illusion.
Kriya yoga is a long desciplined path which has many
Ups and downs. It needs perseverance, hard work, and lot of patience..
I was initiated into Kriya yoga in 1987.since then I have been practising it.. I have taken Kriya from YSS.. and later from SriM.
    Practised different types of Kriya.
It's really a great path... but definitely not an easy path.
If you are not prepared to balance the energy it generates in chakras
You are just opening the pondora box....
Devotion and surrender and discipline and patience are required to reach the goal.
It takes many years of disciplined practice to attain the goal.🙏

Meaning Of Meditation (Dhyanam) (Excerpt from message of Shri Datta Swami)
Some people say that meditation is sitting with perfect silence without any process of thought. Such a contention is meaningless because it virtually amounts to a nice sleep only. These people further misinterpret that such a meditation is concentration on formless God (Nirakara). Gita says that one cannot concentrate on formless God (Avyakthahi Gatih). The meditation of formless God becomes true if one concentrate on the true knowledge of God.
Veda says that true knowledge is the real form of the Lord (Satyam Jnanam Anantam Brahma). Knowledge is formless. Therefore the formless God means only the true divine knowledge about the Lord. This is the correct interpretation of Sankara’s philosophy. The great ancient Vedic sages sat in the formless meditation and this statement means that they concentrated on the divine knowledge (Brahma Jnana), which was expressed as Upanishaths in their mutual discussions (Satsanga).
The actual meaning of the word Dhyanam is the process of functioning of intelligence (Dhee or Buddhi) and this pertains to the field of knowledge (Vijnanamaykosa). Some people interpret that meditation means concentration on the form of the Lord like the light blue colour, peacock feather on the head, flute in the hand etc., Instead of concentrating mentally upon such objects, one can see these things in a photo or see the objects directly kept on a table. If these things constitute the divinity there is no need of concentrating on these things.
One can attain the divinity by applying light blue colour on his own body, by putting a peacock feather on the head and by catching a flute by hand. Such a divinity can be attained without any meditation. So meditation becomes meaningless in such a line. This is the reason why Sankara discarded the meditation of a form (Saguna Brahman). Ofcourse attraction by such things towards the Lord will help a person to develop the attachment on the Lord. One may be attracted to Lord Krishna by such things and then finally get attracted towards His divine knowledge as preached in Bhagavad Gita.

Authority in Spiritual Concepts... (Excerpt from message of Shri Datta Swami)
Whenever you make any decision, you have to follow three authorities: 1) Shruti i.e., Veda, Bible, Gita; 2) Yukti i.e., logic; 3) Anubhava i.e., experience.
Ex:1) To learn philosophy, the world gives the real picture. Books may contain faulty knowledge, but the world contains only the truth. To know whether the concept in the book is right or not you must refer to the world. Any concept in the scripture should be discussed with logic and finally approved only through its experience in the world. So the purest love can be seen in the world. Suppose somebody loves and serves you without aspiring anything in return and his love is pure by all your tests, you imagine how much you are pleased! You will do anything for him. It applies to God also. If you serve Him without aspiring anything in return from Him and if your pure love passes all His severe tests, He will do anything for your sake. Love is proved only through service. Mere words and feelings are of no use. Service can be associated with words and feelings, like a plate of rice is associated with curry and pickles.
      2) An employee does service for the whole month and he does not have to put in a formal request to the government to give his monthly salary. The salary is put into his account automatically. He does not beg for his salary by singing songs and weeping. Similarly, Hanuman participated in the service of Lord Rama in human form and got the fruit of His service, which was the post of the future creator of the Universe. He did not sing bhajans, chant hymns, meditate or shed tears etc., for the fruit. Therefore what is the use of these things without the service? An elephant is fed with sugar cane in a dignified way. The elephant does a lot of work in carrying big logs etc.
A dog does not do any service and it begs for food by wagging its tail, by crying, by falling at the feet of people but it is not given food or at the most it is given leftovers. Therefore the knowledge and devotion should lead to service, which are like the degrees acquired by you. Merely for your degree, no salary will be given. With the help of the degree you have to get a job and do service for which alone you can get the salary. The degrees will only help you to get a job but they cannot give you the salary directly. With the help of knowledge you can recognize the human incarnation. With the help of devotion you will come near Him and become dear to Him so that you can participate in His service. You get the fruit for your service and not for your knowledge and devotion.
Conclusion: It is always great to give God that which you cannot give to anybody. What is the greatness in giving that which you can give to anyone? People easily give words and mind and there is no greatness in sacrificing such things. It is very difficult to sacrifice the fruit of work (money). Therefore the greatness lies in sacrificing work or the fruit of work. The Gita emphasized on Karma Phala Tyaga in view of the nearing Kali Yuga. Soon after the Mahabharata war, Kali entered. Since the Lord knows that in the Kali age, money, which is the fruit of the work, is going to be the topmost item, He emphasized the sacrifice of money (Karma Phala Tyaga) everywhere in the Gita.

Meditation means thinking about the true knowledge. Sadguru or incarnation of God only can give such true spiritual knowledge.
Service means sacrifice of work and sacrifice of fruit of work. The mother serves her child by sacrifice of work like giving bath, dressing etc., for years together continuously. The father serves the child by sacrifice of fruit of his entire hard work. It is a clear practical point that the proof of the real love is only service.
To please the Lord you have to surrender your words by singing about Him, the mind in His devotion and the intelligence in His discussions. However these three constitute only 1% of the total sacrifice and this is called as theoretical sacrifice. The sacrifice of your work and fruit of work constitutes 99% of sacrifice, which is called as practical sacrifice.
Service is the proof of the real love.
If you serve your family, you love your family. If you serve the entire world, you love the creation. If you serve the God, you love the God and this is only devotion.
The scriptures say that your sacrifice of money is highest.
‘Na karmana, Na prajaya, DhanenatyagenaikeAmritatvamaanasuh’ i.e., you cannot attain God by selfish work or the children. You can attain God only by sacrificing your money for God’s work. - The Veda
Gita keeps sacrifice of the fruit of the work (money) on the top most level. Gita says ‘Jnanatdhyanamvisishyate, Dhyanat Karma PhalaTyagah’i.e., Bhakti (devotion) is better than Jnana (knowledge) and sacrificing the fruit of your work (money) is better than Bakthi.
Shirdi Sai used to ask Guru Dakshina from everybody to teach this important sacrifice. He criticized a merchant who came for Brahma Jnana but was not giving even Rs.5/- from his pocket. Mr.Patil, a farmer used to donate the entire yearly crop to Baba and took back whatever Baba gave back to him.

Thus Babaji was the first guru in the lineage of kriya yoga. His disciple, Lahiri Mahasaya, passed the knowledge to his eldest son Tinkori Lahiri Mahasaya, who, in his turn, to his son Satyacharan Lahiri Mahasaya, and he - to Shailendra Sharma.
Kriya yoga is an ancient practice of yoga the knowledge of which was lost in the Middle Ages and resumed in XIX century due to Babaji Maharaj. Lots of miracles, including that he defeated death, are connected with his name. Babaji appeared to Lahiri Mahasaya in the hills of Himalayas in 1861. He taught him the forgotten knowledge of kriya yoga and told to spread it all over the world. This meeting is described in the book of Paramahansa Yogananda Autobiography of a Yogi (1946).

The 6 Yoga Kriyas are preliminary purification techniques that are excellent immunity boosters. There are six kriyas & their purpose is to remove impurities, flush out toxins & prepare the body for the flow of vital energy or 'Prana'.
Kriya refers to a set of practices that is it.. Pranayama can do the same. Let's get that clear. The word has been separated out...

Hello Beer Biceps, greetings from LosAngeles. Found your dialogue with the IAS officer “amusing” but also touching. Few comments from a Yogoda and SRF member. 1. I was in my 21 years old living by Hollywood Temple, attending services and vexed with desires unlimited. I sought guidance from late brother Bhaktanand. Brother suggested that I develop a relationship with master (Guruji). It took two years. So Beer bicep that is the first thing I feel I need to share with you.
About the Kriya yoga being fast....I often heard it compared with traveling on ground vs taking an airplane. It always made me laugh. I chalked it up to the American need for fast relief (from all kind of discomfort, including the spiritual emptiness. Off course Maharshi Patanjali points out that your effort (mild, medium or intense) will decide your gains.
3 I wanted to know if I am progressing. I am not sure who, told me that Master had said that if you want to know who is a true Guru look at his disciples, his followers and see how happy they are. You do your own finding.😊😊😊
4 tapa, swaadhyaya, aur ishwar ke prati samarpan is kriya yoga as described in Yoga Sutra. Guruji is credited to have said “Techniques will take you 90% of the way but in the end door only opens with devotion.
Have enjoyed and been entertained by many of your guests. My gratitude. Be happy/joyful. All the best.

      Majhi ji,
      Om Guru.
There is a wonderful story about two disciples of Lahidi Mahasaya kriya and hongsaw practice. You may recall it is in AY of a Yogi.
Why Guru ji did or did not do is now lost. I can’t answer that.
One kriya initiation was enough for me. About Kriya levels : you end up combining mantra and kriya.
Guruji wanted us to find our own path, to be the best you could be in what ever religion you are born in.
I stopped going to services back in 80s. Still go to long meditations when I remember.
My path as I understand it is of two parts I call it ‘Sahaj Yoga’. Study the scriptures (Swadhyaya), practice surrender (Ishwar pranadhinani) and a wholistic life (Tap) without attachment or restriction. It is how Kriya yoga is defined in YogaSutra.
I am happy. Hope the same for you.
