I've always been saying that I feel post-scriptum would do a pacific front way better than Hell let Loose and I also always thought Hell Let Loose always did the Eastern Front better (than what post-scriptum would be able to do) so they should just stick to their strengths.
If the branding is Squad '44, I would like to see Operation Bagration before Narva, but I guess Narva would still make sense with the Squad branding.

OWI deserves to put their name on it, they saved it from the dust heap and will continue to develop it so I'm happy for it. Plus yeah the name Squad carries more weight.
After they get more content in PS/Squad 44', they should pick up Beyond the Wire and do a rebranding of it as well to Squad 17' or something.

If Squad were to become a franchise I would absolutely love it to see OWI buy back Beyond The Wire, which is also a game based on Squads gameplay mechanics that has also basically died out. It has such a promising premise however and I think that if they were to buy it back and properly work on it it would be the amazing game it promised to be!

@@28spen Same here. I got it right after they added bots, and I hoped so hard that the bots would rejuvenate the game. Made it more playable, but didn't bring the peeps in.

The maps in hell let loose is so much better looking but Squad 44 has Better Effects, Animations, Gameplay & Sound Design. So i understand you, mostly everything is better in Squad 44.
Agreed. HLL just never felt as grounded and immersive as PS. It always felt a bit too arcadey too me.

The moment tactical shooter genre becomes mainstream, its not tactical shooter genre anymore. This is why I dont hope for it to grow that big. Hundreds of thousands of players is still doable, without the devs starting to think what the majority of the players want instead of what the HC tactical shooter fans want. But if were talking millions, if that even would be achievable to the genre, it would probably end up turning the games to be more casual and arcadey - and not tactical shooters.

When something is niche, it attracts people who want to INVEST in it.
When something becomes mainstream, it brings in people that dont rly care about what they are playing, the ones that just follow the latest trend etc.
This is a very big problem, as it inevitably lowers the quality standard of whats required or considered hardcore, therefore becoming...well...hardcore in name only.
TL;DR;
Hardcore is so, for a reason. If you want to get more people in it youll have to lower the standards, and thats a problem.
I followed Squad and Post Scriptum for years before i realized they were related.
I think the rebranding is a smart marketing move to include "Squad" in the name.
Yes, and the fact they can actually advertise the game properly. Post Scriptum was very underground and no one really knew about it unless you were digging deep into the genre.
i dont particularly like the name Squad 44 as its just sounds weird to say and there are maps/ battles that dont take place in 1944, in my opinion it should be something like Squad: PostScriptum as then you can get the best of both worlds
Really? Have you, ya know, played them? The mechanics of PS and Squad are the exact same. The UI is the same. The HUD is the same. The only differences are the maps, weapons, and uniforms.

Post Scriptum/Squad ‘44 (as already pointed out) has Fall of France 1940 in it already, so the rebrand isn’t completely accurate. Also, with the Project Merkury mod getting folded into the main game with the acquisition, there’s another theatre that isn’t set in 1944. (The invasion of Crete was in 1941, just months before the invasion of the Soviet Union.)
This being said, we can hope that the devs will continue to show more than just the same 4 battles from WWII that have been covered to death. Pacific Theatre would be a good start, Bagration ‘44 would also be interesting (and not well covered), Fall of Singapore ‘41 could be interesting… there’s quite a lot of pivotal battles that just aren’t covered in the WWII gaming space that could and should get some time on the limelight.

I'm excited to have a better ww2 tactical shooter again. always felt hll was too arcadey but didn't come in time before the studio shut down. Wierdly i'm glad that optimization is one of the first thing they're doing, i could tell it wasn't great when the worst running scene on my laptop was the main menu lol

@@Samuelon552 This was exactly what I was hoping to read honestly. I adore Squad, my most played game of this year likely. Tried HLL, it just felt too arcadey. Will be getting Post Scriptum, er, Squad 44. I'll call it my Christmas present to myself.
Battles they could include without much work to get new content flowing, Battle of Caen, Monte Casino and the Falaise pocket. They have most of the assets they'll need, just new maps to get things flowing a bit. But they desperately need to go to the Eastern front, the numerous battles of Operation Bagration really should be covered, not least because it was the summer of 1944 that broke the back of the Wehrmacht on the Eastern front.

Weird just start playing post scriptum again a few days ago after seeing your video (and subbing) I really hope this 'rebrand' brings in more players, its a great game and doesnt deserve to die out.
I personally really don't like "Squad '44". It feels like Post Scriptum is just getting turned into what it started as which was "Squad but WW2". I feel like all the progress made that makes PS unique is being thrown away
Here's to hoping that Offworld devs keep those things that worked for Post Scriptum.

@MoiDawg there were alot more battle's during 1944 than just the two you mentioned such as Anzio, the Warsaw uprising, Aachen, the invasion of southern france, The Scheldt, Cherbourg, Saint Lo etc etc etc.

A name change this late into creating a community and one that came coming back after the recent great news was a terrible pr/development move.
Years of videos & content have essentially been vaulted shut into irrelevancy.
Post Scriptum had an identity. The same as hell let loose. Both fantastic names for games in this genre.
Squad 44 just sounds like a dlc overhaul branding. I wouldn’t even be surprised if it was to show they have dominance and to show they created this when we all know it was passionate modders who created this gem that got laid off behind a closed doors deal with the Squad Developer.
I’ll still play. But it’s such a terrible name change. And it clearly shows it’s ripple effects.

What bugs me the most is the performance issues of squad. Is PS better in this regard? I might just migrate to it instead of 60 fps squad.
ps was a *little* better for me than squad before this update, but hopefully it'll be a lot better now considering the statement about removing assets that were way too high quality for a game
Day before rebranding: 2-3 full servers. Servers last night: 5-7 full servers.

I think reinvigorating the game is a great idea. It already has the players that own it to come back at ease, which in turn gets more people, and friends to purchase it too. I can't tell you how many WWI games I own cuz they stay relatively popular for a year then die. Glad they're not just burying this and letting something else take its place.
hope they dont just stick to 1944, one of the coolest aspects of the game is playing as early war germans and french

Im sooo happy I stuck with this game over the years through all the ups and downs and now seeing it come back to life over the past 2 months has brought me so much joy being able to teach new players or help others re-learn the mechanics has been so much fun even over the past week and I hope from the rock bottom we hit after the abandonment of the game we can truly only go up from here!
Now we only need Squad '14, and we are all set! :)
Beyond the Wire
Im seriously hoping to see a korean war era squad style tactical shooter. I just think the vibe is so weird cause of the clash and combination of ww2 texh plus early cold war tech. It just has the most unique look by far. I think some of the battles would make for some awesome settings. I think it could be really cool to have a map where the Americans and other coalitipn forces are holding a series of closing rings. Youd have the North Korean forces spawn all able to spawn around that area. I dont know what the condition for the UN losing the ring or "point" but their win condition would be to hold until the time ended or the enemy ran out of tickets. Having a battle of Chosin reservoir would be so incredibly intense.
The new name is horrible. I will still play the game, because its one of the best games I've ever played. But damn, that name sounds like it was said aloud by a 50 year old non-gamer at a roundtable. Can't wait to log onto "Group of Combatants Led By A Sergeant 1944 CE"

The name change feels unnecessary after almost a decade. It makes me concerned about what they will do to make post scriptum more "squadlike" as they are distinct games with distinct playstyles. An ICO in PS would make me stop playing. The name change feels like a cheap way to get people to shift from squad to PS, yet most of them will complain at the balance, gameplay features and general style of PS. The youtuber "operator nikolai" or something like that, has a video demonstrating the exact complaints the average squad player has about the game which shown by the comment section on his video, show that the PS playerbase runs counter to much of those complaints.
TLDR: Im worried they are going to focus on the new players and changing the core game, while ignoring and upsetting the players who have stayed dedicated over the past years and kept the game from completely flatlining.
That is exactly what they're going to do.
I also hope they introduce 50 v 50 for this game.

realistically, im not going to be like "yo, want to play squad 44?" im going to say "yo, want to play squad?" and with some friends its just going to turn into "squad not squad" i understand the name change tho
Damn, just 3 months ago I was on a vacation in Crete near Rethymno and visited the city, those aerial shots bring back memories. Didn't even know there was a battle during WW2.
I just hope they won't make it blurry mess like Squad...

Post Scriptum was dying a while before OWI bought it and even though it used to have multiple full servers with queues for each region, the numbers slowly started to dwindle until there was only one server that was barely full, and that was on the weekends. I assume they weren't making enough to pay everyone and so the only choice was to fire them unfortunately.
So glad I bought this game dead, it really puts into light how much these updates are important
I don't really like the new name. We have 1940 maps, not only 1944, it creates a dissonance for me.

It's for branding and Search Engine Optimization. Players will look for Squad, Squad 44 will pop up too, OWI gets to farm buyers for both and share their marketing investment.

Hi, MoiDawg! Wanted to ask you. You had a chance to talk to Squad devs and I'm a big fan of vehicles. Do they have any plans to update those? Because there is a LOT to improve and rethink. I'd love to have ICO but for vehicles with thermals, better hitboxes and much more
No thermals, just no, no, no. Every game that added thermals went to 💩. You were forced to use thermals all the time to stay competitive and your gameplay turned into looking at black and white screen. Not to mention it would make vehicles too op. It's supposed to be a game, not real life.
The only major thing I want for vehicle rework is coaxial mg to fire independently of main gun (left ctrl as a default bind would be ideal) and add mobile repair station "lodgies".
Am I the only one who kind of liked Post Scriptum not in active development?? I really did like it as it was and now I'm worried that it's just going to get ruined/made 'easier' with various updates :s
I mean sure optimization and some more content would be good but it's the actual gameplay changes that concern me. The name change is annoying and makes it feel a little less unique imo, but I guess it is good for exposure reasons... Although the game did seem friendlier/more 'fun' with the smaller, more loyal playerbase, to me at least

I think Beyond the Wire is properly dead. Which is a shame because I loved that game and I love WW1.
Post Scriptum had become it's own identity, and completely erasing the name off the title is frankly....very disrespectful to the game's heritage. Post Scriptum is an easily recognizable name, that really carved its own niche with *that* name at the forefront. All past content for the last 5 years...videos, articles, creators, and word of mouth is on the name "Post Scriptum". This is a pretty disrespectful and separating move from the game's lineage.
Also the name is frankly uncreative. It's a bit too on the nose, but also the game contains battles from 1940, 1941 and 1945. So "44" is out of place.
It would've been much, MUCH better if they really wanted to rename the game to rename it to something akin to...
Squad: Post Scriptum
or hell even...
Squad: WWII
at least then the title would cover the game's whole timeline
People forget why this game failed in the first place. It was BORING. Putting a new name and update isn't gonna convince me to come back to it. We'll see where it goes in a year. Hell let loose beat PS almost every single day for a long time.
I just hope that they'll add Turkish faction in Squad 44. I know that Turkey has joined the war nearly end of the war, but it'd be nice... A man can dream...
OWI cant even make a unbuggy Squad why would i buy another game from them? No way will i be buying into any more games from OWI. They have shown they do not know how to properly listen to the community.
That change with the Rally points isnt as good as you might think. Its already easy to tell once the newbies get the differences explained "german rally is camo" ..
What it will do, is allow those spies with friends on the other team, to communicate ALL of the team spawns with ease.

Re-installed and played a number of games. The graphics need a big update. It felt so dated to me.

Indeed, I never recall rally teamkills being a significant problem. That being said, much thanks to Offworld devs for updating friendly rally positions on the game map, excellent quality of life improvement. 👍👍👍👍
I have been extremely passionate about Post Scriptum for years now. As a WWll tactical shooter, it was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I used to play for hours every day until the servers withered away and I was devastated when the studio shut down. With OWI taking over, I am cautiously optimistic about the future of the game. The rebranding makes me a little sad, but I understand why they did it. I will personally continue to call it PS unless I'm trying to talk someone into buying it. I really hope OWI can carry on the legacy of this game. I think it's miles better than HLL and it deserves any and all love it gets.
Miles better than HLL. Spread the word and get people into it. Squad became the amazing game today because of their relentless work. I played squad since Alpha.. Back when you had to RUN to each objective.
I'm ready for this to succeed. We as the community need to support this rebranding and get back into it and tell everyone about it

Hmm rebranding, sounds shady. Also Post Scriptum, a game that hasn't been supported for quiet a while, runs better on my PC than Squad which has been in development all this time. Please don't fuck up Post Scriptum for me too...

There’s already maps based around the German invasion of France in PS so I don’t think it’s only 1944. They’ll probably start with stuff from 1944 then branch out.
Before you buy this game, careful with the guerrila marketing strategies. Watch others gameplay videos and double check if the game is really fun.. Some videos in YT are paid and they dont have a disclaimer. Dont fell in the trap.

I've seen a lot of people not being satisfied with the name change, but why should you care? Plus it's probably to get better recognition and people seeing it being tide to OWI.
In the end, it is the game that matters and if a name change is all there is to sacrifice for new content and bug fixes? Yeah i am giving that shit up times one million.
