Cute bag and easy to make. I found that my 3 rows of single crochet at the top were curling, so I only did a SC in the large spaces and it was much better..
I love the bag and appreciate the effort its taken to share it with us. I've decided to skip trying to make the bag as there simply isn't enough guidance for a beginner like myself. I really need to know harrow much yarn, if there is a turning chain, and does it count as a stitch? Do I slip stitch to join? When I feel capable of answering those questions for myself. I may come back and give it a try.
Hi there! I used about 350 yards of each color. And each ball of yarn has 425 yards but sadly I think this specific yarn has been discontinued. You do a slip stitch to join. And as for a turning chain, you actually have a couple options. You can do the traditional chain to begin your round/row, and that can count as your single crochet. Or you can not chain at all and place a sc right into the first stitch (but that’s a little harder in my opinion). Or you can chain one and also place a sc into the first stitch. For beginners, the first option is probably the easiest! I hope this helps :)
for the handles you have to do it two times over right? - so the 140 sc + 8 times around is just for one side of the bag and you have to crochet the same thing for the other two holes on the other side of the bag right?
Hi, Thank you very much for this tutorial. I am about to start this for my wonderful Sister. I am a total ( Well nearly) beginner so here goes.....😃😃🙏🙏💖💖
I absolutely love this bag. I have one question though. When we get to the “mesh” area of the bag you don’t show the second row where we sc into the post. Where do you insert your hook? I’m getting an unsightly gap between the top and bottom posts. I notice your example does not have an opening where the posts meet. I’d include a photo but don’t see that as an option.
i must have done something wrong because the bottom of my bag is slightly bigger than the body, so it curves up in a strange way lol. loved the tutorial btw :)
When you go about turning your work. To do that 6 rows that wrap around your project. When you’re going up the sides and are doing that last single crochet in the corner before you turn to the bottom of your project try adding a chain 1 to maybe add a little more slack so the tension isn’t so tight and turns easier. That maaaay help!
I made this bag and it turned out perfectly but I found from experience if you don't keep very careful track of your stitch count in the rows you'll have this issue. Hope this helps
For anyone who raised an eyebrow at the 80 chains… I recommend looking how to crochet the bottom of a bag and then return to the video. less stress and I used double crochet instead of single!
I did 80 chains & it was way too long. Then l did 60 & still too long, like a canoe so lll attempt 40 this time. I'm using a 5mm hook but double strand cotton so it's alittle sturdier in the base 😊
I have a question... I'm not englisch speaking, I hope you Will understand... You finisched the 10 rows and you start to make your bag. Chrochet around.... Do you put 2 stich in de same stich on the corner?
Well, if you ch 80, then sc in second ch from hook, you don’t have 80 stitches and when you go around on 15th row, you have 13 stitches on the ends. So what I’m wondering is how the number of stitches is going to come out when you do the handle spaces on top. One stitch can throw the whole thing off. Also, this is going to be a huge bag. Do you slip stitch at beginning of rounds. Love your bag, but too many unexplained instructions or number of stitches
When turning I put it in the second chain like you did in the first round. I now read that you added an extra chain. Can I still finish the bag like this or do I have to start over?
Every time I make this bag my handles end up crooked. I am very careful when I join my chain together to make sure flat sides are together. I can’t understand why they always end up twisted. Any suggestions?
Hello! So what I meant is that to finish your row, you’ll place a slip stitch into the first stitch of that row to finish that row. Then, to continue onto the next row, you’ll chain four. The first two chains ‘represent’ a double crochet. Does this help?
I don’t! I haven’t tried it myself, but I think it will be the same concept as a regular color change. th-cam.com/video/1YahM7RQTZg/w-d-xo.html That’s the link to my video on color changes If that video doesn’t help let me know and I can make a video specifically for the mesh stitch and upload it :)
Hey I’m a little confused about the beginning rows. So after you finish the first row and continue on with the next 13, do you have to skip the two chain in every beginning row? Thank you so much in advance❤️❤️
Someone posted written directions in the comments. But for the sc base rows, I did I ch 1 then a sc in the next stitch. You should have the same number of single crochet for each row. Hope that helps.
i’m kind of lost :(( how do you move on to the 2nd row of the body?? like where do i insert my hook? i’m trying to figure it out on my own but it just ends up being wonky :( im so confused, pls help. 🙁
Hi there! So the easiest way to do it is to start off your first row with four chains. The first two chains will “represent” a double crochet. Then you will finish the first row. To finish the first row, insert your hook into the second chain (from your initial set of four chains) and place a slip stitch. Then to begin the second row, chain four again. Then yarn over, insert your hook into the first large space that was created when you chained two in the previous row, then finish the double crochet, and repeat. I hope this helps! Let me know if you need further explanation! :)
Are the loops for the handle meant to line up in the center? I couldn't fit 28 more sc at the end of the first row with the handle loops, and now the loops are off to one side of the bag.
Yes they are meant to line up in the center so weight doesn’t shift to one side when carrying it. I would definitely suggest altering the pattern to fit your bag best :)
I'm using DK yarn and a 3.5 hook ( no idea if that will work lol) obviously my foundation chain will be different so what multiple shall I use. Or how many cm should I make it. Ty 🥰
The dimensions of your bag are totally up to you and changeable. Mine ended up being just about 34 centimeters across. Just add or take away chains in the very beginning to determine how long across you want your bag to be : )
hello! for my chains, i did 50 instead of 80 because i am using a 4 mm hook, because the ‘measurements’ for the chains don’t match up, can you give me the measurements of the 28 chains you did when you were doing the handle? or approximately how much of the top row it ‘took up’ for example it took up half, or it took up a third or 2/5 etc!
The ratio of 50 : 80 is the same as 17.5 : 28 So I would suggest doing approximately 17-18 chains for the handle. I’m not sure if that will exactly correspond to your bag but I hope that helps.
Hello! Because I use my bag mainly for groceries and such I didn’t make my handles very long to fit over my shoulders. But that is definitely something that you can alter the pattern for! If I were you I would experiment and play around with how long you want the handles to be. They will most likely be a few hundred chains long. Happy crocheting!
For sure! Use whatever yarn you like. Just remember to adjust the amount of chains you make in the beginning based on how stretchy the yarn is and how big the yarn is :) Don’t feel like you can’t experiment a little with how big you want your bag to be by starting and restarting a few times! Happy crocheting
I used a wholeee lot it seems like haha but that because I used such a small hook. The yarn that I used is called Loops and Threads Creme Cotton Yarn and it has 432 yards in a single ball of yarn. So I believe I used roughly 325 yards of each color. Hope this helps!

Hello! So it is one strap per side of the bag. You're going to make one big long chain and loop in through the two holes you made the for handle straps (it will make a circle after you connect the last chain to the first chain). After you are done crocheting all the rows for the strap, then you are going to fold the strap in half (making a half circle) and then connect each layer with a slip stitch on the sides. Hopefully this makes more sense : )
Hello! So how I did the handles was I made a long chain (It doesn't matter how long. It's up to whatever you prefer) and then connected the chain to make a circle (I looped the chain through the slots I had made previously for the handles). Then I believe I crocheted 8 rows of single crochets. And then I took the two layers and connected them by placing slip stitched through both layers on the sides. I hope this helped! : ) Let me know if I need to be more specific or didn't exactly answer your question.
For the first 14 rows, does the chain count as the first single or should I do a single in the first spot next to the chain? My edges are always wonky.
That’s up to you. Whatever you choose just make sure to keep it the same for every row and that should help. But I alwaysss have the problem of a wonky edge because of this so I feel you. For this I believe I counted the chain as the first sc.
Hello! So the yarn that I used is Loops and Threads Creme Cotton yarn but it has since been discontinued :( But I used approximately 300 yards of each color. I hope this helps!
Thankyou so very much for your simple directions. Just a quick question. When the base is completed plus the 6 sides, does it get turned inside out or just leave it? So the wrong side stays on the outer?
It’s up to you. I made this so long ago it’s hard to remember but I think I turned it inside out so that right side was facing out. Hope this help 😅 good luck!
I did the same thing for a bunch of my rows on accident too. I decided not to go back and fix any of them because it took such a long time. But looking back on my bag now, it is very hard to tell the difference between the stitches I did correctly and the ones that I messed up on so I am happy I didn't spend the time going back to fix it. That is all the advice I can give because I can't think of a way to fix it without undoing all the rows. I hope this helps!
sorry if this is a dumb question but does anyone know how you switch colors? like how do you add in the second yarn color? im a total beginner so far all ive made is squares lol
@@HerScience I watched your tutorial for switching yarns and made sense for switching with double crochets one after another, but I don’t understand for this pattern. Could you explain which stitch you switch colors with Thai pattern?
Hello! Thank you for your comment. It’s totally up to you. Personally, I prefer to not place a chain at the beginning of each row and instead placing whatever stitch I am using for that row. I think it looks cleaner. However, you can totally use a chain 1 to replace a single crochet or a half double crochet and then continue with the rest of the row as normal. Does that answer your question?
I REALLY NEED SOME HELP. How do I combine the white because I am very new to Crocheting and I have never fused two colors togather. So if someone can guide me on how to do that it would really help.
Yes! I made one a few weeks ago with half double crochets instead of single crochets. It ended up being a little thicker and bigger at the bottom but I think it turned out great.
I used a wholeee lot it seems like haha but that because I used such a small hook. The yarn that I used is called Loops and Threads Creme Cotton Yarn and it has 432 yards in a single ball of yarn. So I believe I used at least 325 yards of each color. Hope this helps : ) Happy Crocheting
Hey what do I do if my handles are twisted after doing my second row of single crochets.. It wasn't twisted at the start.. Do I need to redo it from the beginning? Could I do 140 rows of 8 stitches instead for the handles and then join the ends and close up the sides?
Hello! So when I did my bag (way back when) I accidentally twisted my first row too and I didn’t want to go back and fix it so I just started working into the stitches as it they weren’t twisted and it turned out fine. But you can also do 140 rows of 8 stitches and it would turn out the same :)
I actually have a video on my channel explaining how I do my color changes. th-cam.com/video/1YahM7RQTZg/w-d-xo.html ^^ here’s the link But basically at the end of the round (the round before you want to switch colors) instead of placing the slip stitch with your current color to finish the round, you’re going to insert your hook where you would normally to finish your round, and yarn over with your new color and pull the new color through. The new color should be on your hook and you can take scissors and cut off your old color and begin working with your new color like nothing even changed :) I hope this made sense and good luck!
I’m really struggling with how to end and begin each row of the body of the bag. I’ve watched the video several times and tried to do it but it’s all wrong. Anyone? Help please.
The only problem is Im Not sure if you are suppose to stitch any at the end to turn to the next row of the first 14 rows.. you never did say.. you just said to chain 80 then do single crochet then do 14 rows.. am I wrong??
You’re totally right that I should have been more descriptive. At the end of each row I placed a slip stitch into the very first stitch from that row to finish that row. Then, you can either chain one (in place of a single crochet) to begin the next row, or you can stretch out the loop on your hook ever so slightly and place a single crochet into the first stitch for that row. I hope this made sense and answered your question :)
Hello! I can't remember how much I used exactly. Each ball of yarn was 432 yards and I used two different colors. I would say that I used most, if not almost all of each color. I used so much because I used such a small hook for this bag, so if you are using a bigger hook then you won't need as much yarn. I hope this helped!
I used a wholeee lot it seems like haha but that because I used such a small hook. The yarn that I used is called Loops and Threads Creme Cotton Yarn and it has 432 yards in a single ball of yarn. Im doing this bag right now and Im missing more detailed info. I dont know how many stiches should I have in each round, how to connect rounds etc. I cannot control if Im doing good or wrong. This video is for good crocheters, not for beginner.

It is very pretty bag. What the size of finished bag ?
Hi, how much yarn do I need for this bag? Thank you 🌸
I am looking through the comments, trying to find the answer to that very same question.
How do you do the colour change?
Well, if you ch 80, then sc in second ch from hook, you don’t have 80 stitches and when you go around on 15th row, you have 13 stitches on the ends. So what I’m wondering is how the number of stitches is going to come out when you do the handle spaces on top. One stitch can throw the whole thing off. Also, this is going to be a huge bag. Do you slip stitch at beginning of rounds. Love your bag, but too many unexplained instructions or number of stitches
I didn’t have that size hook so I used a 3.75 hook and my bag is looking huuuuuge but hopefully it comes together 😅
Hopefully it turns out! Good luck : )

thanks for sharing the video..your pattern is easy to learn
I’m stuck! I can’t visualize what you mean when you say to slip stitch at the end of the first row before you chain 4 to start the next row?
Hello! So what I meant is that to finish your row, you’ll place a slip stitch into the first stitch of that row to finish that row. Then, to continue onto the next row, you’ll chain four. The first two chains ‘represent’ a double crochet. Does this help?

@@HerScience Oh awesome! Yes that makes sense. :) Thank you and thank you for tutorial!
How did you finish the handles?
@@HerScience Did you then repeat this step for handles on the other side?
Yes!
For this I believe I counted the chain as the first sc.
hey i would love to know how yarn you needed.... like approximately. just for the shopping list. i really like that bag design!
Hello! So the yarn that I used is Loops and Threads Creme Cotton yarn but it has since been discontinued :( But I used approximately 300 yards of each color. I hope this helps!
Do you think I could use a stitch marker to make it easier for keeping track of the stitches? Or would that mess smt up? :)))
That would probably help!
Perhaps u could re-look over yr tute then y'll be able to spot what y've done. I'm a novice so l haven't the foggiest.
Are the stitch counts going to be the same if you use the recommended size hook?
Yes, the product will just be larger
Saving this for later. Looks cool!
This is lovely! Thanks for sharing ❤️
Very clear tutorial , thank you for sharing .I like crochetting too
Thank you! 😊
I forgot to chain 4 at the beginning of each row when working on the body 🤦♀️ is there a way to fix it without ripping out all of my rows?
Oh gosh! I hate it when I do that as well. Did you happen to only chain two instead of four at the beginning of each row?
Yes just two. I just kept chaining two and then going into the double crochets.
I’ll just start adding them now and hopefully not forget anymore lol thank you so much!
Is it possible to obtain a written pattern of instructions for this project?
Sure thing! I'll work on putting one in the description : )
@@HerScience Good morning. I was wondering if maybe I over looked the written directions, have you posted the directions somewhere? Thank you!!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I love how my bag came out :)
Yay! I love hearing that. Thank you for your feedback:)
Did your become round ???
@@heaven6354 it came out just like the bag in the tutorial
@@boluoresegun4713 how long did it take ?
@@heaven6354 it took me around 3 days with breaks in between due to the small sized crochet hook
What is the size when it’s done I did the foundation and it looks like a huge bag
Mine ended up being 13.5 inches long and 14 inches tall. But I used a thin yarn and a very small hook. I hope this helps :)
Very nicely donee. I also have a ton of this yarn so now Im super excited to see how mine turns out. :)
How did you crochet both sides of the bag as one? I am so lost 🥺
I pretty much crocheted in a circled and finished each row with a slip stitch. I hope this helped
Did the same, but is it suppose to be round on like row 8 on the body ?
Can you use acrylic for a bag or only cotton?
You can use any type of yarn you want! The yarn that I wanted to use just happened to be cotton. Happy Crocheting : )
sorry if this is a dumb question but does anyone know how you switch colors? like how do you add in the second yarn color? im a total beginner so far all ive made is squares lol
There’s a color switching video on my channel if you wanted to check it out! :)
@@HerScience
I watched your tutorial for switching yarns and made sense for switching with double crochets one after another, but I don’t understand for this pattern. Could you explain which stitch you switch colors with Thai pattern?
do i have to chain 1 at the start of every row at the 3:50 step?
@@HerScience so if i wanna chain 1 do i have to skip the first stitch or just chain 1 and continue sc? thank u for replying!!
If you chain one then you would “skip” the first stitch because the chain 1 would count as/replace the first sc. 👍🏻
@@HerScience thank u!!
Can anyone tell me the measures in centimetres of the bag please??? Thanks
Base-34cm
Tall-36cm

Do you have a tutorial for how to change color yarn?
Yes! th-cam.com/video/1YahM7RQTZg/w-d-xo.html
Hi should have clearly about the handles .nice beg but im little confused about the handle.tq
I REALLY NEED SOME HELP. How do I combine the white because I am very new to Crocheting and I have never fused two colors togather. So if someone can guide me on how to do that it would really help.
Hey, I believe she has a vid on that's here's the link, I hope your project turns out amazing! 🤍 th-cam.com/video/1YahM7RQTZg/w-d-xo.html
Do you think i could change the sc for half-double crochets? Im not really that impatient tbh
Yes! I made one a few weeks ago with half double crochets instead of single crochets. It ended up being a little thicker and bigger at the bottom but I think it turned out great.
@@HerScience phew.. thanks for replying!

@@HerScience I like the idea of the smaller hook as well. I just bought yarn today to make this. I’ll let you know how it turns out
Using a smaller hook definitely takes a longer time but I think it is so worth it. Good luck on your project and let me know how it goes!
Here from Tiktok
Hi the starting chains 80.
Can you show how you changed colors?
I actually have a video on my channel explaining how I do my color changes. th-cam.com/video/1YahM7RQTZg/w-d-xo.html
^^ here’s the link
But basically at the end of the round (the round before you want to switch colors) instead of placing the slip stitch with your current color to finish the round, you’re going to insert your hook where you would normally to finish your round, and yarn over with your new color and pull the new color through.
Anyone? Help please.
how do I change color when I start the body of the bag?
I actually have a video on my channel that explains how to change colors on any project. : )
@@HerScience thank you! I cant wait to finish it!
The only problem is Im
Not sure if you are suppose to stitch any at the end to turn to the next row of the first 14 rows.. you never did say.. you just said to chain 80 then do single crochet then do 14 rows.. am I wrong??
You’re totally right that I should have been more descriptive. At the end of each row I placed a slip stitch into the very first stitch from that row to finish that row. Then, you can either chain one (in place of a single crochet) to begin the next row, or you can stretch out the loop on your hook ever so slightly and place a single crochet into the first stitch for that row. I hope this made sense and answered your question :)
@@HerScience okay that’s basically what I did so thanks
Thank you! This was really helpful ❤️
How many balls of yarn did you use
Hello! I can't remember how much I used exactly. Each ball of yarn was 432 yards and I used two different colors. I would say that I used most, if not almost all of each color. I used so much because I used such a small hook for this bag, so if you are using a bigger hook then you won't need as much yarn. I hope this helped!
Easy way to do it thanks a lot 😍🌷👏🏻
