      @@oscars-autorepair3236 My sun roof though can push all the way to the end, but then retracts almost immediately. Does this still mean that I have an issue with the motor or is it the censors that is having the issue?

    • @oscars-autorepair3236
      @oscars-autorepair3236  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@phamlove great question, per my understanding on the motor , it has a sensor integrated, what that means is that it senses and controls the pressure of the retraction. If it detects some time of movement in your case the ability to be pushed back all the way it will go into safe mode and attempt to to retract itself back. I would definitely recommend to swap it out. I was luck enough to find a motor of the same exact model in my local junk yard for 25 big ones. Hope
      This helps

    Thanks for this video. It saved me a lot of time. Just one addition, since you are going to trash the old motor, you can take a cutoff tool and cut out the gear from the plastic case, clamp a pair of vice grips to it and use it to close the sun roof the rest of the way so it's not open in the back. This will allow more time for the new assembly to come in in case you don't have a garage and it rains.

    Fairly easy to open the case, clean the armature, and get the motor working again.
    Carbon, from the brushes, shorts the commutators, stopping the motor from turning.
    A brass brush and a little brake cleaner, usually gets them working again.

      I had gunk on the worm drives so bad from the stripped ends I had to pull the entire copper housing units apart and eletric cleaner then regrease with bearing grease. Kinda works but not well, guess it is the motor as well :/ after all that work I just disconnected the sunroof motor with it in the closed position for the time being so nobody accidentally opens it.

    My sunroof sounds the same way. I ordered a used motor, but it still won’t work. It sounds like it wants to open like in the video, but it won’t. I tried removing the motor and opening the sunroof manually and I can’t get it to open. I also noticed the tilt switch doesn’t make any noise at all when pushed, unlike the slide button which mimics what happens in the video. Could this still be the motor, maybe I need a new one and the used motor was bad? Or could it be the track assembly?

    • @oscars-autorepair3236
      @oscars-autorepair3236  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question I would attempt to get a second motor and reinstall it if that still doesn’t fix the issue most likely is the track assembly. Keep in mind if this is a use motor, it could also have wear and tear in my case. I’ve had this Sequoia for over 20 years I must’ve just used the sunroof 18 times in the past 20 years, that was surprising for me to find out the motor was the issue because it’s never been used but I guess this one of those motors that overtime the lubrication inside could dry up and start to malfunction. I do live in Sunny California so you could just imagine the motor being on top of the roof and hot all the time

      Good evening Tony, the part number is 2001-2007 Toyota Sequoia Sunroof Motor 471723-10040 , I got a used one from eBay for 39.99 and it worked like a charm. Just copy and past the part number I gave you and search for the one in ur budget. If you have a local pick a part in your area you can also get one their in case they have some sequoias , the part is very easy to removed as I demonstrate on the video. I hope this helps you. God bless

    Thanks for this great video. I have a Tundra. I removed the old motor so I could manually close the sunroof, but it wouldn't budge. Two strong guys pulling at the same time and still wouldn't budge. Would you happen to know if this is common or have heard of this? The sunroof has only been opened once or twice since I bought it. 2014.
    The grease looked brand new on the gears and track-rails... almost like someone recently greased it up.
