So glad to finally see glossy finishes hitting OLED monitors. Hope they bring it to 4K WOLED monitors next. I've been looking into the MSI MPG 321URX, but it'd be nice to have a similar glossy MLA/WOLED option.
Even if they offered it in glossy, I have zero interest given how these panels just do not get bright enough. An absolute joke especially during the daytime, even at full brightness.
@@bren.r I guess it just depends on one's use case. I'm currently using a cheap-ass IPS display in a room with fairly standard daytime lighting and I have the display brightness literally set to zero on the given scale and it looks fine. So I think I'm probably closer to the target demographic.
i owned the glossy and matte woled 240hz, honestly in person use, there is no difference, theres more difference when your looking at it but not actually using it. truthfully. i prefer matte because of the benefitsi n the light, in the dark they both seem the same
What's interesting to me is that the reflection on the glossy QD-OLED, although clear, looks so much darker than the others. This matches my experience with having a bright window behind my back. Yes, I can clearly see the trees outside but text remains perfectly readable through the reflection, something I cannot claim for matte screens used in the exact same spot.
Thank goodness people are finally saying it. Glossy is objectively better. Matte does worse with handling reflections. Anyone trashing glossy has never used glossy. I own an LG matte monitor and a glossy Apple studio display. I can actually see the Apple display with blinds open right next to me. All I see is matte haziness on the LG.

From all the comparisons I've seen, it looks like in bright environments, the reflections on glossy screens become quite distracting So glossy is better, but not in a bright environment
Seeing reflections in glossy screens and saying that the reflections give images depth is pure cope. No need to get OLED for pure blacks if you want to see reflections on it.
@@patrikmedia wrong, glossy always looks better in every scenario but one. Under normal circumstances, raising the minimum VRR frequency simply means that LFC kicks in when below that frequency, it doesn't mean VRR stops working completely. But I'm not exactly sure how this would work with 160 or 200 Hz on a 240 Hz monitor - typically LFC needs the monitor to be able to do the next multiple of the frequency, as in the lowest VRR range minimum you can do on a 240 Hz monitor would be lower than 120 Hz and often it needs a bit of additional headroom.

Guys I gotta be honest. I own the PG27AQDM and bout the aw2725df because I wanted the glossy screen. But looking at the two side by side and testing in-game, the alienware's abl kind've ruins the monitor for me. It does look a bit better in very dark scenes with small highlights, but in bright scenes, the ASUS gets way brighter and looks better. All that being said, the alienware has a clear advantage in terms of clarity due to the glossy screen. It's really unfortunate that the Asus shipped with a matte coating in the first place. @@AlanMane I hear you, but the whole APPEAL behind oled is perfect blacks, Infinite contrast, amazing clarity and no blooming, so a matte display kind of ruins what makes oled so good, you know what I am saying? A compromise is still a compromise at the end of the day, no matter what way people try to spin it, and when your spending big bucks on these tvs, it's a tough pill to swallow. However it all comes down to personal preference, so if you are fine with that I see no reason why you shouldn't go for one, though people may be better off getting a high end LCD if light is really an issue, as they can come pretty close to OLEDS these days
@@DoodleDonkey45 My Steam Deck OLED etched-glass matte screen has perfect blacks, Infinite contrast, amazing clarity and no blooming. Compared it side-by-side with a glossy model and the image is virtually the exact same, except glossy has distracting reflections in comparison. Not all matte finish are made the same. What's the point of having perfect inky blacks if you just see your face reflected back at you when the screen is dark.
does this mean that ALSO G-sync does NOT turn off if frames drop beneath VRR range? That is how it USED to be at least. were you using Nvidia and G-sync we can assume?
I think Asus is up to something with this choice. I have no idea what are the statistics and whether people prefer matte or glossy. But being one glossy oled among so many matt, it would definitely make this display a definite choice.

@@ghibliavigo1983 They are both great, would argue in a living room with windows the s95d is nicer, but with curtains or in the evening with a light source behind you the G4 is the winner. Hi, how are you? I have a problem with asus xg27aqdmg if you could guide me. First, I don't know if the nvidia app beta is the best for this monitor or do I use nvidia expirience? Second, is it advisable to use Windows HDR calibration? I used it and it worked very well with shadow of the tomb raider in hdr, but when playing tomb raider (2013) in sdr it looked horrible, very yellow, especially the skin, this could be the fault of the nvidia app beta or the configuration of windows 11 hdr? I use nvidia app beta or nvidia experience, and do I configure HDR with Windows 11 or not? thank you so much!
more important than the glossy vs matte debate is the super aggressive ABL of the QD-OLEDs, only the new Asus monitor seems to have acceptable HDR brightness for most scenarios. Hope Samsung can do something better next year OR brands could provide heatsinks.
Asus ROG really nailed it with their glossy monitor. I ditched the other option, Samsung G8, as the matte coating makes it so dull like a normal ips monitor.
Hi Vincent, any plans to review the Tandem OLED M4 iPad Pro? I’m very impressed with the brightness of this screen compared to my LG G3 MLA OLED, think it will surprise you too.
If u cant eliminate lighting in ur room then matte is the way to go but who cant get blackout curtains and just turn of their room lights then glossy is the way to go just cause its clear while matt gives a little blur effect but still looks clear if people understand what i mean
10:17 this explains why you cant watch HDR movies on the XG27AQDMG or PG27 models. I wasnt able to see anything in dark scenes on this monitor on my unit.
The matte looked better in the side by side comparisons though! This glossy preference is crazy to me, kind of like using the soap opera refresh rate to watch movies. Yuck!
Glossy all day every day for oled, I had the s95 and the g4 in house even tho the s95d had more vibrancy it looked kinda dead compared to the g4. Very flat
Question: In a typical daytime scenario, would a matte OLED screen have WORSE blacks than a mid-range LCD monitor? 🤔 I.e. Even if the blacks on matte OLED screens aren't as good as glossy, aren't they still miles ahead of anything LCD can produce?
if you talk about WOLED, then yes. the blacks on those are like having an LCD fully turned off. although from my experience even shut off LCDs turn out to have a brighter display than OLEDs, likely due to the panel characteristics. as long as you dont shine a super harsh light directly on your WOLED, both glossy and matte will give you inky blacks. QD-OLED is a completely different story, I'm not a fan of those despite the superior color. Never go for QD if you care about inky blacks and don't want to use it in a fully dark room, even dimm lights will raise them and add a gray/purple tint.
@@patrikmediaagreed, the LG displays are superior at the moment at least. I honestly cannot tell the difference in colour side by side, maybe a touch more saturated. Both are great, but read about so many S95B having issues, I would not want to bet on that horse...yet.
Input lag is higher than on LG TVs for 60 FPS signals... I wonder why won't they give us an option to set the refresh rate from OSD like LG does with their TVs. Not an issue for PC, of course, but for consoles... It blows.
Gorilla glas armor reduces reflections A LOT without being matte, but it might be expensive and is developed by samsung electronics + corning, so will remain samsung exclusive for some time, I guess.

I can't believe how easily it is damaged, Had I known I would never bought this TV. how many people have kids or pet that touch the screen. Vincent you should include in your reviews how prone some of these TV are to screen damage. That is a huge consideration with respect to ownership consideration
Summary: Glossy is better in most cases. People who say 'its subjective' are wrong. Now this doesnt mean that monitors with matte screens are worse. Glossy vs Matte is just 1 of the multiple factors playing a role in purchasing decision of people.
Hi guys! Any tips on learning display calibration? Would love a professional certification over relying on TH-cam videos. But can't find anything to start with.

Yep, reading text on the glossy Asus is terrible, it looks like the text is ghosting, had to send back the monitor after trying. Alienware is much better, but you can't adjust brightness in HDR mode, while with Asus you can.
you can have 0.03ms response time, but refresh rate is the ultimate determining factor, at 240hz you need to be within 4.17ms and 360hz / 2.78ms, so having a 0.03ms response doesnt even matter atm, i dont know who to believe, but rtings input lag tests, the top 7 monitors tested for input lag are not OLEDS
The highest refresh rate panels are currently 1080p LCDs with backlight strobing. They are masters at that motion clarity but give up color accuracy, brightness, resolution, etc. The 4k240hz oleds this year are more jack of all trades master of some, but not that

I love Matte!!! 😂
@@mastroitekI like both as long as its Oled (QD or W)
Matte all the way, no reflection.
@@protato911 And I still have a VA 😂
@@mastroitek VA is honestly pretty good. One of my longest used monitor is a Asus 35inch 3440x1440 ultra wide 100hz VA, use it for 6 years until the Mobo died, sell it to my electrigian friend for 15 bucks, me fix it for another 30 bucks and love it. Honestly if not for buying the 27 LG oled and recently the MSI 321UPX, I can still live with VA.
Guess the one I'm really looking for is this new updated Asus model, but I don't want to spend the money on that lol.
Thank you for the video Vincent.
Are you going to review the 2024 TCL c855?
really good video ! as always ! please ! can you test the Eve ( Dough ) spectrum OLED 32" 4K ( glossy with gorilla glass ) it should use the same pannel as this ASUS XG27AQDMG but with better brighness and more ! thank you a lot !
Damn good video. Your videos always make me want to go drop money on a new TV. Unrelated specifically to this video, have you considered doing projector discussions in the same vein as these standard displays?
Glossy 👍🥰
Sharper,clearer,better contrast..
And despite the lie everyone is led to believe, glossy actually handles reflections better than matte.
You cannot change the laws of physics.
Glossy is ALWAYS BETTER
Unless there’s a lot of light lol. Use cases matter.
For programming glossy is definitely not better
@@AlanManedebunked ad nauseum. Come up with new material.
does this mean that ALSO G-sync does NOT turn off if frames drop beneath VRR range? That is how it USED to be at least. were you using Nvidia and G-sync we can assume?
I think Asus is up to something with this choice.
I have no idea what are the statistics and whether people prefer matte or glossy.
But being one glossy oled among so many matt, it would definitely make this display a definite choice.
Honestly ive tested both and although i do prefer glossy. I went with the qd oled samsung odyssey g6 just for the simple fact they were selling a open box one at best buy for $480
The AQDMG looks cool, but we got maybe 3 mins of glossy vs matte? Must be a pretty quick and straight forward decision, glossy is king
Matte all the way. I don't want to see any glare or spots in my screen no matter whatever else is in the room. I don't want to be aware or to manage the lights in any way.
You have glare from the shit matt filter... not from glossy :))
Why are there so few of us? We are a persecuted minority.
@@macgameshistory Well I prefer matte from all of the current OLED monitors coating. But what I want is the same level of glossy coating as on a LG OLED C3 TV. Why can't they give is this?
This, it's a monitor you sit close to. No matter the light there will be reflections, I don't want a black mirror.
watching this on my 10 years old ROG Swift PG278Q .. while waiting for my, already shipped, xg27aqdmg to arrive
I went with AW3225QF and I've never had a better monitor. It's stunning
Glossy for me that's why i chose a G4 rather a s95d
Io ho acquistato un 77S95D e sono molto soddisfatto.
@@ghibliavigo1983
They are both great, would argue in a living room with windows the s95d is nicer, but with curtains or in the evening with a light source behind you the G4 is the winner.
I go with LG due to the latter use case, I prefer the build quality (more metal, feels sturdy) and because the menu software is better in my opinion.
both excellent , Colour volume vs 3D look, processing more codecs and 5 years of updates .Plus G4 can be 83"
My Gigabyte FO48U was the first ever glossy WOLED monitor tyvm

Glossy FOR LIFE.
Asus ROG really nailed it with their glossy monitor. I ditched the other option, Samsung G8, as the matte coating makes it so dull like a normal ips monitor.
When are you gonna review Sony Bravia 9..? I'm eagerly waiting for your review of Bravia 9 and comparisons with A95L..
Which do you recommend for photo editing?
Hi Vincent, any plans to review the Tandem OLED M4 iPad Pro? I’m very impressed with the brightness of this screen compared to my LG G3 MLA OLED, think it will surprise you too.
haha i actually was expecting him to do this by now.
Thank you so much for covering this topic!
Thanks, your technical acumen is without peer!
Very flat
Thanks Vinnie!
Question: In a typical daytime scenario, would a matte OLED screen have WORSE blacks than a mid-range LCD monitor? 🤔
@@patrikmediaNot to mention that QD-OLED is waaay worse with burn in than WOLED. 🤭
Thank you Vincent! this is the type of content we want!!
Input lag is higher than on LG TVs for 60 FPS signals...
I wonder why won't they give us an option to set the refresh rate from OSD like LG does with their TVs. Not an issue for PC, of course, but for consoles... It blows.
Will you be testing portable monitor from asus, aoc, JSAUX?
I think the GLOSSY screen and your GLOSSY LOOK is very cool :)
Why is nobody using gorilla glas on monitors
Yes why not
It would be really expensive and pointless because you don’t rub your monitor in your pocket 1000 times a day for years.
@@BillyONeal also true.
Gorilla glas armor reduces reflections A LOT without being matte, but it might be expensive and is developed by samsung electronics + corning, so will remain samsung exclusive for some time, I guess.
Megaman 2 music goes hard af
Is the samsung G60SD at $100 less on sale (matte 1440p 360Hz) a better deal than the ASUS monitor? Is it worth to pay extra for gloss for reduced RR?
my brain gave up after 3 mins but nice vdo tho, very in-depth.
I am very interested in this video. I purchased a Sony OLED tv and my cat had some nose prints on the screen from smelling it. I tried to wipe it with a damp cloth, it completely ruined the screen. I can't believe how easily it is damaged, Had I known I would never bought this TV. how many people have kids or pet that touch the screen. Vincent you should include in your reviews how prone some of these TV are to screen damage. That is a huge consideration with respect to ownership consideration
Hey mate, please do a QN90D review
GLOSSY! I have the FO32U2P right now. I had the LG matte oled monitor before. The matte is terrible! Matte also lowers colour depth.
Summary:
Glossy is better in most cases.
Wait, does the APL and color limiting you mentioned also applies for the QD-OLED TV's? S90C, since I don't have anything but an LED Tv to compare and my phone's OLED screen.
Dear Vintect. Please do the same thing but with TVs
To what point?
@@Tarets to show glossy vs matte duh. Monitors are not the same as tv. Moreover these are different manufacturers which can lead to different coating different soft and everything else.
@@kristof46 How are they not the same? You didn't ask for any specific models to compare, so what differences do you expect to see? There's no such thing as "TV coating" or "monitor coating".
@@Tarets first thing first. I said that coating is only one factor. Vincent showed much more than just coating. Monitors work differently comparing to TV. We should know how good or bad is s95d comparing to g4 etc.
The 4k240hz oleds this year are more jack of all trades master of some, but not that
Response time does matter a lot. An OLED at 120Hz will look basically as clear in motion as a 240Hz LCD if not clearer.
