    I have 3 kids (2 9 year olds and a 6 year old). I had a 2021 SR+ M3. My kids complained about the lack of space in the back seats. We still have all 3 in boosters. We sold the M3 and bought the 5 seat LR MY at the end of 2022. The kids like the space in the second row and we love the extra storage space.

    Awesome video! We have a 7 seater model Y and with a baby on the way so this video was super helpful on what stroller would fit when traveling with 2 adults, a baby, and two dogs. We are actually getting the same brand of stroller, but the single stroller version instead of the double. It was great to be able to confirm the stroller will fit in the trunk before we purchase it!

    It looks like the ground clearance is the same on the Model Y as the Model 3. My only issue with my 2020 LR Model 3 is lack of air shocks to raise the car when driving into steep parking garages here in the city. The scraping sound on the bottom plastic isn't pleasant and happens more often than I would like.

    I have a 15 month old and a second one on the way. I didn't think we would benefit from a 7-seater, but after seeing this video I'm thinking it might be a good idea. I usually drive & my wife sits in the backseat with my 1 year old in their carseat. With a second car seat, a 7-seater might be our answer.
    Once the kids get older we can always consider selling it. Thank you!

    In Japan they have a market segment for basically 'mini-MPVs' (mini-mini-vans) that fit a similar bill - 3 row seating for 7 or 8 depending on the model. They're not crossovers by any measure, more like tall station wagons w/ a 3rd row. Honda Freed, Toyota Sienta are the most popular two. Since they're blockier, you don't have the problem with the sloping rear glass hitting adults in the head in the back.
    Unfortunately nothing in this segment will be EV any time soon unfortunately, although they do have mild hybrid variants (not even plug in though...)

    Agree on the R1S as being a much more ideal size - especially since we also have 2 dogs. Seriously considered it when we needed to replace our gl 450 but the Y was 1) readily available - got it in 2months vs waiting another year+ and doubted our old car could make it, 2) charging - supercharger as well as also already having the Tesla wall charger installed since we already had a 3 -also drove across country when we moved to Cleveland with the dogs and supercharger network was seamless - only wish the Y had like a 400miles rated range giving closer to 300 real world range and 3) autopilot- It drove 99% of my solo + dogs cross county trip (wife and kiddo flew and visited family while I needed to get there to meet our movers). It performed flawlessly and saved me a couple of times when I didn’t have enough caffeine.

    Sounds like there’s a sales opportunity here to make these kinds of strollers that specifically fit in these vehicles because volume wise, that big stroller should be able to actually fit in back, and the same thing could be said for the smaller stroller in either position. I’m actually kind of surprised with how many tests there are now that there aren’t bespoke designed equipment of all types including strollers, folding tables and chairs, I’m sure there’s other things I can’t think of right now for the specific space for each of the storage areas and all the different Tesla models.

No room in my PHEV under the boot lid. Comments I've seen on Teslas with the spare strapped in the back say it's not safe, it will be a projectile in an accident. • @jonathanbrown2407
      @jonathanbrown2407 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      We have had 3 flats with ours so far. The 1st one was a blow out on the freeway coming home from a road trip. Tesla sent a van with a spare (1 hour drive to us). The 2nd was just after leaving the beach and we pulled over and got the same treatment from Tesla. Then a Mobil repaired brought our rim and a new tire back. The 3rd was in a maul parking lot and this time Tesla, after an hour, told us we needed to get towed home or to a repair shop. We were already upset then AAA truck broke down 5 minutes away from us. Turned into a 4 hour delay to get us and the car home. AAA was not Tesla’s fault, but I complained to Tesla that they didn’t take care of us as they told us we then had to tow the car to a repair shop. They agreed to send Mobil repair who was great and repaired the tire.
      I would prefer to have a spare even just an emergency tire we could limp home on.

    Are there AC vents for the 3rd row? For many 3rd row option cars AC vents aren’t available since it’s an addition to the platform instead of engineering it as a 3rd row vehicle. This includes the 2022 Mercedes GLE we bought recently but didn’t know about the lack of AC as no one had any to demo before we bought ours.

    • @TwoBitDaVinci
      @TwoBitDaVinci  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey Mike! first check if you have an electric dryer in the garage, if you do, you can just get a small unit that splits it and chargers the car when you're not doing laundry... that's the cheapest... then getting a NEMA-14-50 240V plug would be second cheapest, and third would be a charger installed. but since tesla stopped giving out chargers when you buy it... its something to think about early ... if you in California I'd recommend GoEV www.goevsandiego.com ... they have other sites too

    We have a Nuna mixx and while it’s a nice stroller the thing is huge. Hate traveling with it so we got a HB pockit+ all city - so much more compact. I prefer our Y for school drop off vs our 3 due to the bigger door and not hitting my daughter’s head like the 3. The other advantage of Y over X besides the much lower price is the ability to put a roof rack and aero cargo box - it does impact range but if you keep it ~70mph it’s bearable.

    • @TwoBitDaVinci

      We have an older Thule evolution bought off of Craigslist ~10 years ago for $75 that we previously used on our GL450 (originally thought we would only use it once for an extended family road trip but have since used it at least a couple times a year). If I had to get one a new one today, the skybox 12 would be my top pick. We also have the hitch on our Y which has also come in handy (recommend getting an easier access cover from Amazon since getting the oem cover off is a real pain). We’ve had both the cargo box and a hitch tray (harbor freight) on for trips carrying several inflatable paddle boards, inflatable 12ft boat with an electric outboard motor) when we took a trip to sun river Oregon with a kiddo and two dogs along with all the things they need. It’s surprising how much you can fit into a Y but a cargo box and hitch ( for a tray or bike rack) comes in handy.

    I own a MY with the 5 seat configuration and my wife owns one with the 7 seat configuration. When traveling for vacation with our 3 kids we usually take my car because we can fit more luggage. For everything else either car is fine. Because of the armrests for the 3 row, the rear cargo area is a little bit narrower in the 7 seat Model Y.
    Her car has the tow hitch and roof racks. We take hers when going skiing or kayaking.

      @@TwoBitDaVinci Here is another piece of information. Contrary to the 5 seat configuration which has a second row that can't be moved, the second row in the 7 seat configuration can be moved. When carrying groceries or any other small items, with the 3rd row down, make sure to move the 2nd row all the way back touching the 3rd row to prevent items from falling in between the gap between the 2nd and 3rd row. Sometimes items roll or move during transport and when you come to a quick stop those items could potentially fall in between those two seats. If it happens most of the times those items end up under the second row seats and can potentially roll to the driver's feet.

      @@xiaoka It could be. After many years of taking long trips as a family we've figured out what works for us to make the trip enjoyable. We have quiet time which they use to read their books, use their phones, look at the scenery and we also have playtime (all kinds of trivia, guess the word, license plate games, etc..) Also sometimes we drive without an overnight stop so they just sleep in between charging stops.
      But when we have trips in which we don't bring too much luggage, we take the 7 seat car, bring one of 3rd row seats up and let one of them sit there. It makes the trip more comfortable for them.

    Awesome video! The one request I’d have since this is a review specifically of a 7 seater is that what does the rear look like, how easy is it fold up when not in use, and how much space do you gain when you do? You mentioned you’d only be using these seats for when the parents visit so since they won’t be in use most of the time, I’d imagine the seats would be folded and you’d regain some additional room with access from the rear.

    • @TwoBitDaVinci
      @TwoBitDaVinci  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      absolutely with the third row folded down, its not too different (you lose a smaller second under floor compartment)... and very capable! you don't lose much which is amazing

    • @dorknob69
      @dorknob69 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@TwoBitDaVinci So yet another reason to buy a 7 seater actually. While you lose the small under floor compartment specifically to where the last seats anchor, you regain the cargo space which assumingly remains accessible from the rear and then that monstrosity (LOL) of a stroller actually fits when Grandma and Grandpa aren't riding with you.

    • @ChaimLoecher
      @ChaimLoecher ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@dorknob69 don't forget the sliding 60/40 2nd row can give you aven more (!!!) trunk space and the seats recline more than the 5 seater and 2x25watt power USB-C in the 3rd row is always accessible... I only wish they kept the heated seats as some early VIN 7 seaters had. Also, because the 2nd row is power actuated, young kids can easily slide and exit the 2nd row without adult help/strength. Great video! I really like the idea of this 7 seater for occasional use with adults in second row and kids in third. My concern however is safety of the third row in case of a rear end accident. Looks like occupants are essentially sitting in the trunk! I wonder how much crumple zone there is left to absorb the impact and protect little ones during rear impact. Especially high speed accidents > 40 MPH.

Charging experience par to none, never had range anxiety, already put 11K miles all on road-trips summer and winter - and the heat pump works miracles. Very little range loss due to cold weather, living in Oregon where we have colder winters (than SoCal) and snow , tons of mountain pass and even with that range is beyond what I expected.

    Hi, the Tesla Model Y 7-seater is the first Tesla I ordered, the very day it was announced. Months later, when I finally test-drove it with my spouse + 3 kids (11, 13, 19 years old), it became obvious that the 2nd row was too cramped for them to coexist. There was fighting almost right away. If not for that, it would have been a contender. Our needs for many seats is mostly in town (grandparents coming over, all 7 of us want to go somewhere) or there's a soccer practice or kids birthday party. However, for longer roadtrips, with 5+ people _and_ their luggage, this car is just too small. So, we got the Model X, back when it was $75K or so, and haven't looked back. It can sit 5 or 6 people comfortably _and_ haul some decent amount of luggage. There's just a few more inches in every direction.
