Thanks for doing this reviewin this format. My wife and I have an Atlas for family duty (3 kids under 6yo), but I am looking to replace my Bolt in a couple years and a 7 seat Y would do just fine for us. We could easily use it for town runabout duty. Does the 7 seat eat up a bunch of trunk room compared to the 5 seat models? I feel like with the used market ( I only buy used cars), the cost premium isn’t really that big of a thing if at all, it is just a little harder to find the 7-seat models available.
Yes, defiantly. I wanted to buy a Model Y back in 2022, but it wasn't available in Europe. Since we occasionally need more than 5 seats we went for a VW Touran instead. Now after two years I know, that we used the third row of the VW five times for a max 60 Minutes drive. And there is always some smaller person around, which can sit in the back. Obviously the third row of a VW Touran is much bigger, but If the Model Y 7 seater would have been available back then I would not have regret it.
This was he review I needed to make an informed decision. I never comment, but if I could have review videos like this for everything I'm researching to purchase, I would save so much time. Thanks!
When they install the 3rd row they add a huge piece of iron behind the bumper. So you loose a bit of the crumple zone but the impact is not going to squash the people in the 3rd row.
Fitting is one thing. Being comfortable for 2+ hours is totally another thing. The two smallest kids I can see them being comfortable but not the teenagers. So this fits with what many others are saying, the 3rd row is only good for kids under 10.
I personally love my 7 seater, it works for our family of 5. Our kids are still small so we're good but if i had teens I'd go with an actual suv. My only concern with the third row is not having ac back there. We haven't had our model y in the summer yet so we will see, i really hope it's not too bad😬
In Toronto the model Y is $72600 the sienna is $55000. Much more comfortable to ride in and 35USmpg is great Ill take the sienna any day , and I still got my 2004 sienna which (knock on wood) is still going strong
After watching this AND watching other videos we just changed our our order from a 7 seater to 5 seat. My son in law has a 7 seat and his 3 kids do not like it as gets too hot, no air and they feel trapped. He said that there was more second row leg room in 5 seater and that the seats will recline slightly. But for us, the idea of having a small kid there and getting rear ended is too scary. Thanks for a great review and the different size kids was perfect.
In Summer time, sitting in the 3rd row seats with your head very close to the glass piece of the hatchback means very hot temperature around your head and can cause illness and discomfort.
In your test, the storage and two smaller occupants are ideal in the Model Y 7 seater. Where you would get the most space in the Tesla line but obviously pay more is with the Model X like Michelle suggested. The falcon door opening would give you the most loading space but I believe the 3rd row option has more cubic space.
Very good conclusions - third row is always just for some temporary use, so maximum is family 2+3 and just occasional use. And I too always think about the third row in terms of safety - I'm sure tests have been performed, otherwise they would not be able to sell the car. But how tall were dummies in the third row?
I would not agree with a 2+3. If you have a 12 year old kid fitting, you can use the 3 row for many years to come on a very functional way. 3 kids 3-10 years old plus 1-2 new born... 🤔and 12 years to enjoy.... and after 12 years you may have older kids moving out partime already? I am sold out by the conclusions and if this would be an option in Europe, I would have it as a first or even second car, no doubt, even for a few trips on the year (x many years to come).
Amazing review!! If I pay for white color third row is only 1k it’s totally worth it for when family is in town!! Thanks again for such a thorough review
@LockettTech & @jj8023 do you think insurance is more expensive for the 7-seat ? ( as more people can sit in the back, the premium for the personal injury portion can be higher?? )
Thanks for this review…. I think people over exaggerate the “uselessness” of the third row. It’s designed for small children PERIOD!!! I have 4 under 4 and between my wife and I I’m the the parent who doesn’t have the children all the time, but there are still times I might need be able to get all the kids in our second vehicle, that doesn’t need to be another huge 7 passenger vehicle. So the model y and other compact 7 passenger vehicles fits perfectly into this space and very useful use case!!! It wasn’t designed to replace a midsize 7 passenger midsize or full size vehicle’s anymore than a Honda crv 7 passenger was. If you only have the budget for 1 vehicle that meets most all your use cases, then this if you have need for a 7 passenger that fits 7 adult size people, then buy a full size suv, mini van, or some other type vehicle. But stop ragging on the striate space, in what would ultimately be used as a daily commute vehicle, to which this performs very well.
I have a 21 Pacifica and im looking into upgrading into another 7 seater. This is not a great model at all. Realistically it just doesnt make sense to make a 7 seater thats just crammed into a sedan. My pacifica has tvs, super spacious, stow and go. Plus the 3rd row is NOT in the trunk. You put 1 suit case in this tiny car and your done lol. Why make a 7 seater with no storage for 7 ppl?
This vehicle just alone doesnt seem to fit a normal 5-6 person family. There just isnt enough space for luggage, normal sized riders in the rear of the vehicle and getting in and out of the vehicle seems like a task. Tesla needs to make a larger vehicle
My friend has a 6 seater X. Idk that id fully agree with this statement. Myself and his son are both 5’10. It’s definitly not that comfortable for an adult. Maybe on a short trip to get food but nothing long. We have done a long trip where the teen sat in the 3rd row but he did it alone and had to put his feet between the 2nd row to make it comfortable.
It worths the money but I think it is not that safe for kids. What if a jerk rear ends the car with the kids in? Doesn't sound like I wanna have my kids in those seats.
yeah feel a bit uncomfortable day if it zombie apocalypses and 2 people need extra seat and this happen. i would preferred model X to make it better but at least it it have more seat for anyone
I have a model Y the 3rd row is never use unless i have a case of water and a jacket back there😂😂😂 … my 5”1 13 year old is uncomfortable back there and he only weighs 90lbs
8:00 “I feel like this is kind of the standard space for a smaller sedan“ man that is the standard space for an economy flight’s last row *if I’m being generous.* Rampant self-delusion in this video.
My wife and I test drove a model y without a family. It was by far the most uncomfortable ride we had. The car is beautiful. The technology is amazing, but you have no room outside of the front seats. If you have a family of 3. Or really small kids, it's ok. Tesla needs a suz. A real suv size. I was upset because we really wanted the model y. The model x is not much bigger and way more expensive
@LockettTech when I get mines it will be just to commute to and from work and if I'm by myself.. I have 6 kids.. ain't no way I'm even considering a 3rd row.. its ridiculous 🤣🤣
That third row is for new borns, short Asians or midgets. Leg tight, little space and very cramp. However, if you had the option to choose from a 5 or 7 seater. As bad as the Y may sound, a 7 seater is still better than a 5.
Say, "O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you - that we will not worship except Allah and not associate anything with Him and not take one another as lords instead of Allah." But if they turn away, then say, "Bear witness that we are Muslims [submitting to Him] Islam = heaven
What are your thoughts? Worth the extra $2,500???

there's nothing more to say then... YES

This is the best review on Tesla Y 3 rd row! Well done video!
This was he review I needed to make an informed decision. I never comment, but if I could have review videos like this for everything I'm researching to purchase, I would save so much time. Thanks!

Where did the info come from? Have a link you can share?

@manjotaujla1305
I agree completely
Kudos to the kids demo'ing the 3rd row. Best feedback possible!
surely the FULL REVIEW of the 3rd row i needed to see... super thanks!!!
Wish they would have made it 6" longer, this would have been a great family car.
Guess thats called a Tesla Model X
Didn’t really mention airflow or heat from the glass, any feedback from the kids after some drives?
Fitting is one thing. Being comfortable for 2+ hours is totally another thing. The two smallest kids I can see them being comfortable but not the teenagers. So this fits with what many others are saying, the 3rd row is only good for kids under 10.
Or people with no head
Perfectly done video to see what it's like. Thanks!

This is the video that I was waiting for. Thank you!
I am really considering getting the 7 seater after your video because I am mainly driving kids around!
Just realized you’re local to me… such cool!
That was a well done video. You showed all the aspects and variations for the third row. Thank you and best wishes
I didn't know that thing flips in the trunk. Thank you.
You bet!
The most helpful video about third row of Y model. Thank you for your time posting detailed demo. I hope your video lightning will get better

Great review guys, thanks and thanks for the kids for the help 🙂
What about car seats and booster seats?? Almost noooo videos on it with kid seats…
Great video!
Thanks.
Great video guys thank you, it doesn’t hurt to have the seven seater option
Which are you going with?
@@LockettTech model y long range 7 seater
@LockettTech & @jj8023 do you think insurance is more expensive for the 7-seat ? ( as more people can sit in the back, the premium for the personal injury portion can be higher?? )
The wife wants a model X and to crash test the Y. That says it all really 😅
Thanks for the informative video.
if you take the tesla to the airport for overnight parking, how do you not return to a drained battery?
great video, thank you!
So when you put down the seats in the 2nd row also so the whole back seats are down, is there any gap at all?
great review- thanks for this
Very informative ❤❤❤❤
Thanks for showing how the 7 seats model works
nice video!!
Great video beautiful family
Thanks so much
Only third row vehicles worth talking about if safety is your concern is a van The third row in a Sienna is comfy
great review, id use it just for my 5 year old and 2 year old when family is in town.
Thanks for this review…. I think people over exaggerate the “uselessness” of the third row.

Sitting might be ok, but dragging myself out of the third row seat was extremely hard!

if someone was smart at Tesla they would of just made regular size suvs to accommodate space correctly like a kia sportage or the x like an ev9
This vehicle just alone doesnt seem to fit a normal 5-6 person family. There just isnt enough space for luggage, normal sized riders in the rear of the vehicle and getting in and out of the vehicle seems like a task. Tesla needs to make a larger vehicle
They do lol
the model x may be a lot more money than the model y but the 3rd row is 100% adultable. especially in the 6 seat configuration
Can we install car-booster-seat in the third row?
Yes it is capable.
What happened to the giveaway?
It worths the money but I think it is not that safe for kids. What if a jerk rear ends the car with the kids in? Doesn't sound like I wanna have my kids in those seats.
Hey tyler 👋🏻
I whant to convert my teslas Y to 7 passenger where should l takes my car and where are the seat belt for then
its not possible to convert. you need to buy it with that configuration since its all programmed by tesla based on the config.
OMG MASON ITS MEEE LUCYYYYYY
Hi Lucy!
yeah feel a bit uncomfortable day if it zombie apocalypses and 2 people need extra seat and this happen. i would preferred model X to make it better but at least it it have more seat for anyone
3rd row has more room than Spirit Airlines...what you complaining about?🤣
I have a model Y the 3rd row is never use unless i have a case of water and a jacket back there😂😂😂 … my 5”1 13 year old is uncomfortable back there and he only weighs 90lbs
Yeah it’s a struggle with older ones.
If you aren't using the 3rd row can the 2nd row push back as far (or close to it) as it would in the 5 seater?
8:00 “I feel like this is kind of the standard space for a smaller sedan“ man that is the standard space for an economy flight’s last row *if I’m being generous.* Rampant self-delusion in this video.
Does the smallest kid in the video need car child seat ?
Not in PA.
I love that beautiful pine tree on your front lawn. Just magnificent!
Why is their no 6 seat model y yetttt????
Can l intales my self
the best 7 seater SUV is KIA EV9
My wife and I test drove a model y without a family. It was by far the most uncomfortable ride we had. The car is beautiful. That 3rd row is too small😂😂😂 stop the cap. Yall need a Tahoe... all boys too!!.. let the Tesla be the mom car for errands
Never!
lol that’s exactly what I did . I wouldn’t want anyone siting back it’s inhumane .
@LockettTech when I get mines it will be just to commute to and from work and if I'm by myself.. I have 6 kids.. ain't no way I'm even considering a 3rd row.. its ridiculous 🤣🤣
You get very little extra with the Tahoe. If you want a vehicle with more room get a minivan. Large SUV’s are the worst interior design on the market.
@Seenoevilspeaknoevilhearnoevil you should probably try Model X, it has better room for 3 rd row seating. Model Y third row is only for kids below 10.
I think if 5 or more people need to be in the car, 7 seater makes sense. But 4 or fewer people - 5 seater is enough.
That third row is for new borns, short Asians or midgets. Leg tight, little space and very cramp.
However, if you had the option to choose from a 5 or 7 seater. As bad as the Y may sound, a 7 seater is still better than a 5.
This is the Y.
Or dogs!
It's a $1000 today.....
I’d rather get a Mercedes or a BMW with that limited space can’t fit nothing
Worst design for Tesla Car ever.
Say, "O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you - that we will not worship except Allah and not associate anything with Him and not take one another as lords instead of Allah." But if they turn away, then say, "Bear witness that we are Muslims [submitting to Him]

Clearly video is made by Tesla fanboy and only tells one side of the story.
No car seats?? You put an 8 year old in your car without a car seat?? WOW
Correct. It’s not required in PA. He meets both the age and height limits. I don’t know of any kids in grade that still ride in car seats actually.
Yes. Like everyone else does. Wow
good detailed review , but PLESE ,next time clean the car before filming
Idk, I appreciate the real world review and all the mess that comes with.
your car is absolutely filthy wtf
I have model y 5 passenger you want to change with my car I want to pay 4000$ extra 🫡
Good review!
great review!
