Those fenders shrouds definitely do make a difference.... I have them on my VA and I can tell you they definitely release more heat than you would think. I definitely need to do the fender vent mod in the future (you should too!)

Currently I got a fa20 and I put gas treatment inside of it and when I was driving on the highway my block blew. So I'm Currently in the process of removing my engine to transfer over some of the parts to the new block while upgrading the internals. But so far I have Manley pistons and connecting rods, ETS intake with air box, perrin inlet intake hose, perrin charge pipe, torque solution driveshaft bushins and differential bushings
Im finally after 3 months of waiting getting my top mount intercooler and charge piping from cobb today!!! (couldn't afford front mount)😥 carbon steering wheel too! GF is pissed but worth it WHOOO!! KEEP UM COMING T YOUR VIDS ARE GOLD!!
Late post. I really like your channel and your insight into these cars. But FA is not really a downgrade or less than EJ. I know that you understand that. But it is nice to see a different project. I think we all know STi is the base, but some of us like the new and like the different. It would be nice to see an FA build. It’s kind of cool to start with something different and to create it. I think you have the best Subaru channel on the internet. Change is good. Change is fun. Your experience/opinion working on them is valuable. Keep up the great work. South Florida loves you. Rock on!
Hey Tanner! Great job on the install! I think the the reason the fog light bezel wouldn't go all the way in is because you left a piece of bracing that needs removed from behind the windshield washer fluid tank. Grimmspeed has a very good install video that explains everything you're "supposed" to do. I tried installing my bumper back on without removing the bracing or modifying the bumper and it wouldn't fit at all until we took out the brace. Mad at myself for not cutting out the cross members in front of the FMIC that looks so much better like that! Might be able to get in there without taking the bumper off again. Too nervous to try.
And now you see why I was asking the questions I was. Your videos being as descriptive as they are you helped me out a ton. I will be up by Saturday maybe we can link up
Pressure fill or rev to about 2500rpm and hold until the fan run. Grab both rad hoses if both are hot.... seal system, cool system, top off overflow tank
I'll "donate" mine and supply the parts 😂😂. 2019 WRX premium, mostly stock. I have an AOS, BPV, charge pipe, and run an OTS tune. I just purchased an ETS catback, grimmspeed CAI, head and tail lights from subispeed, and plan for the J pipe in a week or so and in the very near future a ETS FMIC with the BRZ manifold. It's my first Subaru. Us FA guys need some more content and I'm pretty nervous about doing it myself anyway 🤣🤣.
I'm not a fan of the VA WRX, especially the FA20 engine in stock form, so I almost skipped this video. But I'm glad I watched it because you made it very entertaining. And, at the end of the day, it's still Subaru content and as an Ambassador it's good for me to know what's what with the community, so thank you!
I have an 06 STI for the weekend, and my daily is a 16 WRX full bolt on, e60 tune and it’s such a joy! I average almost 30mpg everyday in the FA!!!! Get one!
FA20 WRXs have low end pull, EJ WRXs have high end pull. If you're going to use it as a daily, FA all day, if you're going to use it as a track car, EJ all day

I have the same inlet on my rex... It is a pain in my ass. I had to use some wd-40 on my finger and run it around the turbo and then use a long flat screwdriver to pull it into the passenger fender side while pushing back... It's a fun game.
back in august i drove 119 miles to Annapolis to look at a blacked out Premium trim with Performance Package and the Audio Upgrade, I look through the passenger side window and see its an AUTOFUCKINMATIC. I learned that day there's people who would have the audacity to entertain ownership of such a thing lol.

i just emailed subaru and asked if they have a factory warranty approved air oil separator or catch can because i should be able to implement a solution to keep my intake valves from being compromised, and keep my warranty for my 2020 wrx. if i have to void a warranty to protect my investment - i may as well avoid having the dealer's expensive scheduled maintenance......., but if we had a real justice dep't. in the usa - subaru would be obligated to a solution , not a legally binding (screw the consumer) excuse/?

I have that CAI on my FA20 wrx, love the sound it puts off. Lower end torque is fun, lol. Invidia turbo-back exhaust with the n100 dual exit, mine rumbles a bit differently. Sounded like a stock downpipe, maybe?

No cutting needed! Just need to remove the right side bash bar piece! 😬 grimmspeed has a install video of what needs to be removed for it to fit with out any cutting

Fa20's are sweet except they're pretty much outdated with the newer Fa24's coming out, no more DI issues and lack of top end, and if the rumors are to be believed with hp there's no need for a laundry-list of mods. BUT I wouldn't say no to an Fa20 WRX build 👍
There’s a reason a lot of people picked the wrx over the sti and it isn’t money. I chose a 2020 wrx and love it so damn much. I miss the rumble better transmission and dccd but I’ve had so much fun this winter in my wrx and it just loves everything. Very finicky but loves having fun.
Bills have to be paid, so money 💰 has to be made. Working at a garage is perfect for you especially if the car is a WRX or STI Subaru. There is no question you know or can easily figure out 🤔 what to do. As I own an FA 20 DIT powered VA Subaru it is great to see 👀 some content on this engine platform from you, as I feel this is a dismissed, disrespected engine platform I will be honest with you. An FA 20 “is what it is” to quote you but an EJ 25 is now what it was, this is true. Both are imperfect and have their idiosyncrasies and peculiarities. That’s rhetorical clearly. 🤣 It’s ironic too, because DIT is the present and future of all performance 🐌💨🏎🔥💨 and non-performance Subaru. And look 👀 you honestly appeared to enjoy taking the FA 20 for a mini test pull didn’t you. And in a manual they are more responsive to and lastly for the power 💪💪🏾 delivered the fuel ⛽️ economy is ‘f’ing’ good too.
Holy crap I hear some people complain about the shape of the SS headlights jutting out but damn they are pretty bad. From straight on they look nice but that top-down/angle view, I'm gonna have to say they stick out too much. IMO just go retrofit; better output and better look (OEM).
Cool, the FA20, been enjoying the EG33 swap videos though. In a few weeks I'm giving my 2019 WRX a STi Drivetrain swap, wish I could do more of the work myself, but Condo life...
@@Smeedia Got a 2019 STI 6-speed Transmission, Rear Diff, Driveshafts, Front and Rear Axles. Using a MapDCCD for differential controller. Keeping the Suspension and Brakes stock for now until I get to the more power part of the build. Also going with the stock STi Clutch and flywheel for now. Should be a better driving experience than the cable driven shifter for sure.
@@roygillotti4615 would be cool to hear if you got that done and how it turned out. I'll be installing my swap on a 2015 WRX, 2016 STI drivetrain in a few weeks. I would recommend DCCD PRO instead unless you really are on a budget.
@@MachuPichuu It turned out well, been driving the setup for a little over 3 months now, it's a much more satisfying shifting experience for sure. I ended up getting the MapDCCD as it was what the tuning shop had experience with. It seems like a fine unit although I've only really played in manual mode on some gravel dirt roads in my area.
@@roygillotti4615 Nice! I'm still waiting on my DCCD Pro and the weather to cool down here in Arizona. Notice any changes in handling and grip? Acceleration with the shorter low gears? I have a LSD in the rear and it made quite a bit of a difference but the rear end is much more tail happy in lower traction.
I have an FA20 and it's so hard to not void the warranty 😅 This car stock especially with the cvt, leaves much to be desired which can only be done with mods and tunes.
@@Smeedia so far I just have a few exterior mods with rain voulars, emblem overlays, olm Hikari headlights, spec d tuning tail lights, mud flaps and a remark muffler delete. As soon as my warranty is gone I'm planning on doing a lot of things.
I have '20 wrx and mod it on the 1st month. Really need to have at least a stage 1 tune for these cars as the factory tune is not great. Currently have stage 2+ dyno tuned by Matt Miner.
It being a CVT doesn’t bother me, my CVT is looking good outside right now! Jealous that he started modding his already though, I’m waiting a bit longer to not void out the warranty (only if I’m case something does happen to it before that).

Those dress up parts are definitely not my cup of tea, either. I was kinda wanting to do a red theme in my bay, and now I kinda have no desire to... I really didn't know the turbo on the FA is on the bottom of the engine..hence no coolant expansion on top of the engine, and back to the usual non turbo Subaru coolant bleed difficulties..man, every time I learn something new about the FA, I don't like it even more. The only thing it does well is gas mileage.. this is kind of discouraging considering by the time I'll need a new car, everything is gonna be an FA...

I removed the bracing, and still no go 🙅 I'm pretty sure it's because thr aftermarket bezels sit a bit deeper than the OE ones did.

Right side bar piece was removed, it was the aftermarket fog bezels that were the issue 😖

Fa20's are sweet except they're pretty much outdated with the newer Fa24's coming out, no more DI issues and lack of top end, and if the rumors are to be believed with hp there's no need for a laundry-list of mods. BUT I wouldn't say no to an Fa20 WRX build 👍

There’s a reason a lot of people picked the wrx over the sti and it isn’t money. I chose a 2020 wrx and love it so damn much. I miss the rumble better transmission and dccd but I’ve had so much fun this winter in my wrx and it just loves everything. Very finicky but loves having fun.
Both are great for diffrent reasons. I enjoyed both of my FA20 WRXs when I had them

Bills have to be paid, so money 💰 has to be made. Working at a garage is perfect for you especially if the car is a WRX or STI Subaru. There is no question you know or can easily figure out 🤔 what to do. As I own an FA 20 DIT powered VA Subaru it is great to see 👀 some content on this engine platform from you, as I feel this is a dismissed, disrespected engine platform I will be honest with you. An FA 20 “is what it is” to quote you but an EJ 25 is now what it was, this is true. Both are imperfect and have their idiosyncrasies and peculiarities. That’s rhetorical clearly. 🤣 It’s ironic too, because DIT is the present and future of all performance 🐌💨🏎🔥💨 and non-performance Subaru. And look 👀 you honestly appeared to enjoy taking the FA 20 for a mini test pull didn’t you. And in a manual they are more responsive to and lastly for the power 💪💪🏾 delivered the fuel ⛽️ economy is ‘f’ing’ good too.
Lol I just prefer working on EJs, I can take one apart blindfolded but the FAs are an interesting one to take on 😅🔥

Holy crap I hear some people complain about the shape of the SS headlights jutting out but damn they are pretty bad. From straight on they look nice but that top-down/angle view, I'm gonna have to say they stick out too much. IMO just go retrofit; better output and better look (OEM).
They do stick out a decent ways 😅

@@Smeedia Got a 2019 STI 6-speed Transmission, Rear Diff, Driveshafts, Front and Rear Axles. Using a MapDCCD for differential controller. Keeping the Suspension and Brakes stock for now until I get to the more power part of the build. Also going with the stock STi Clutch and flywheel for now. Should be a better driving experience than the cable driven shifter for sure.
@@roygillotti4615 would be cool to hear if you got that done and how it turned out. I'll be installing my swap on a 2015 WRX, 2016 STI drivetrain in a few weeks. I would recommend DCCD PRO instead unless you really are on a budget.
@@MachuPichuu It turned out well, been driving the setup for a little over 3 months now, it's a much more satisfying shifting experience for sure. I ended up getting the MapDCCD as it was what the tuning shop had experience with. It seems like a fine unit although I've only really played in manual mode on some gravel dirt roads in my area.
@@roygillotti4615 Nice! I'm still waiting on my DCCD Pro and the weather to cool down here in Arizona. Notice any changes in handling and grip? Acceleration with the shorter low gears? I have a LSD in the rear and it made quite a bit of a difference but the rear end is much more tail happy in lower traction.

I have an FA20 and it's so hard to not void the warranty 😅
This car stock especially with the cvt, leaves much to be desired which can only be done with mods and tunes.

@@Smeedia so far I just have a few exterior mods with rain voulars, emblem overlays, olm Hikari headlights, spec d tuning tail lights, mud flaps and a remark muffler delete. As soon as my warranty is gone I'm planning on doing a lot of things.
I have '20 wrx and mod it on the 1st month. Really need to have at least a stage 1 tune for these cars as the factory tune is not great.
Currently have stage 2+ dyno tuned by Matt Miner.

It being a CVT doesn’t bother me, my CVT is looking good outside right now! Jealous that he started modding his already though, I’m waiting a bit longer to not void out the warranty (only if I’m case something does happen to it before that).

I really didn't know the turbo on the FA is on the bottom of the engine..hence no coolant expansion on top of the engine, and back to the usual non turbo Subaru coolant bleed difficulties..man, every time I learn something new about the FA, I don't like it even more. The only thing it does well is gas mileage.. this is kind of discouraging considering by the time I'll need a new car, everything is gonna be an FA...

Everyone loves to hate the fa20, its actually a good design, and you better get used to it haha that 2.4 is gonna look just like it.
I just don't enjoy working on them, I like the platform but a little more of a pain than an EJ 😅
For driveability and reliability what else do you like to see on the fa20dit besides egr/tgv deletes, aos/vta catch can , and an etune?
Tbh that's all there really is to it for reliability. A larger radiator and oil cooler if you really want to 🔥
