Do you get stuck in the messy middle stages of a painting? Is it hard to know how to move forward? Then you are not alone ! I am grappling with this for my Ramshackles body of work. I have identified 3 things that I need to focus on in order to move forward with the paintings and I share them with you in this video.
I also share progress on several of my paintings. They look very different now that the painting has covered some of the collage. You can see the video where I share how and why I add collage to my abstract paintings here:

I love your Ramshackle series. The decay of the buildings and the story they tell. Beautiful paintings.

Thanks Leila - I’m not sure the word plonking is magical but still!!

The painting are interesting, as is your approach. I think these type of images stimulate the imagination of the viewer. I like your studio set up.

Thank you for your comments. I’m glad you find the paintings interesting. The studio isn’t huge and I have to keep moving things around but I make it work. I share it with my greyhound too!

It might be interesting to see you start with something 'representational' of a fisherman's shack, and then going through the process of decaying and layering over it and watching (and helping it to) deteriorate
on the support as you work on it. Watching it become a ramshackle before your very eyes (and at your direction). I am enjoying the series.

In a way I think the overall process is similar to that as the drawings on location were more representational. However, for a particular piece in the studio It’s really not a linear process given the intuitive vs intentional dance! . Perhaps though you see the more representational come and go throughout the process. A couple of the pieces are already doing that. I am glad you are enjoying the series.

Loved watching this, enjoying your work, great to see your set up for this. Were you using the brick to mark into the piece?

You are so right, Liz. I think we do whatever we’re most comfortable with (in all aspects of life), and sometimes the simplest change can be the best thing! You’ve given awesome examples to help us keep moving forward. Thank you!❤
