As always Liz, you inspire me! I love the loose quality of this sketch. I really need to get back out there and do this too. I think it’s just a wonderful way to play and enjoy the gift of art that we have. Thanks again❤
Love your loose interpretation of the beautiful scenery. A daily creative practice is best but does not aways happen... Life gets in the way. Enjoy watching your videos.
Hi Melinda thanks I’m so glad you enjoy the videos. Yes you are right- it’s sometimes tricky which Is why we have to make it easy for ourselves as well as being in the moment as much as possible.
Thank you Liz, for this reminder to ease up and “create for the sake of creating”! Many times I feel it helps any other cohesive body of work you might be doing. Best of luck at the Borders Art Fair! ❤
Liz, thank you! I appreciate the message , the encouragement to build in time for doing sketching just for the pleasure of it. Very permission-giving video--I love to watch you work ;and love so much of what turns out! I’m excited to know you’ll soon be in Scotland-will look for you there!
Hello!- I’m so glad that you enjoyed the video. I do think it’s important to sketch for the pleasure of it but can often get forgotten. We are all so busy that I find if not careful this important being in the moment is lost. Yes I’m at the Birders art fair in Kelso until Sunday- the fair is on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Hope to see you here!
I love your drawing! It is energetic with all the thin lines of the wires, and the colours help to bring more energy into the page. Beautiful! Funny, I have got out of the habit of making a series now and find it quite hard to get back into it.
Thank you!- it was the energy and feel of the place that I was after so I’m thrilled you took that from the drawing. I think the word you use ‘habit’ is important. Whenever I come away from painting for a while, it becomes harder to get back into. The more we do of something, the more we can do. It’s like anything. There are several videos I’ve created on here about getting back to painting that might help. Here’s a recent one: th-cam.com/video/Gt7Bplr4wjA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=dnF42fDyOJD3t26f
Hi and thank you for your comments. I’m so glad you got some drawing time. I think it’s like a lot of things the more we don’t do it, the harder it becomes. Habit can be important.
Really enjoyed this video....and seeing how you translate a scene! I completely agree that getting a little drawing practice in OFTEN is a great way to keep those creative muscles in shape!
Hi Janey I’m glad you enjoyed the video. If you like mine but not yours then perhaps try to figure out why- it could just be that you don’t perhaps give yourself permission to do loose work. If you recall I talk about the drawing as not being readable and then add darks to take your eye around the drawing. Perhaps this could work for yours?
Thank you. It’s often trial and error. When you live near the moors there is often wind so difficult to avoid it. That’s another reason why the camper is so handy. I can shelter in the camper whilst I’m drawing!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video but sorry you are stuck at home. Perhaps some still life drawing. Ha actually these types of video take quite a lot to do- not quite as straight forward as it might look!! x
Lovely, so inspiring to just be so free and enjoying it. I’ve tried so many times to keep my art kit down to as little as possible, but it’s never easy, and always want something I haven’t brought with me!
Hi I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I guess we just have to keep trying to keep our kit to a minimum - I’m sure that using what we’ve got is perfect!- that additional thing may well not have improved things!
Very expressive. I find myself using just pencil. I think it makes me look harder and develops the way I use pencil to make marks. You are very brave and loose, .
Thank you - I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Using pencil alone is also good - I just like the variety in marks and look you get from combining different media. But sometimes I just use a single medium too.
Quarter to midnight here and this is last thing I'm doing before settling down to sleep. Sort of benignly envy you the camper van experience but enjoyed watching the sketch come together with such ease!
Ha thank you! I’m glad you are enjoying the video. Appreciate you following along with me- I’ll be doing more of these throughout the year- probably as a playlist series. Hope you will join me for them too. Have a good sleep. It’s first thing in the morning here.
Thank you! I really enjoyed seeing your drawing process. It’s expressive and very inspiring. Too often when I’m out sketching I get caught up by an internal pressure to be literal. Seeing your approach, especially the speed and how you keep things fresh by changing media is very helpful. 🙏🏼 (another new sub)
You are very welcome- I’m glad you found it helpful. Limiting time and changing media are useful ways of keeping things moving. Great that you’ve subscribed- with notifications on you won’t miss a new video.
Love the whole idea of being out sketching. I tried it the other day from in the car and did not have enough room for my art supplies. I would really love it if you shared the detail of the board everything sits on. Did you make it? I’m thinking maybe an upside down sturdy box might work
Yes being out drawing is great, in this video I didn’t have a board- I just clipped the palette to my sketchbook. I am going to be developing a whole series of drawings sharing my tips- I’ll include supplies and set up in that.
@@LizAckerley yay! I’m excited to hear that good news. I’ll be watching for it! Thank you. I thought you had some sort of board in the car that you set your supplies on.
Thank you so much Liz love this, I really wish I had a little camper van would be so nice, il manage with me fiat 500 ha ha, I so love this work and that you managed to get so close to your ramshackles, lovely work x❤❤
I always enjoy your drawing videos Liz and this was great - the view of the moors is splendid. I'm in the camp of wishing I drew more but don't seem to be able to make it happen - some form of resistance I think. I've been pushing myself to do a bit lately, mostly from memory, sometimes a photograph - still very much winter here in Canada but I am enjoying the challenge of drawing from memory. Thanks very much for another terrific video.
Hi Jillayne thanks for your message. I’m so glad that you enjoyed the video. I think keeping things simple and keeping sessions short are important to stop it from becoming overwhelming. Yes drawing from memory is fun and as you say: You enjoy the challenge which is also key.
Thanks so much for thus! I struggle to motivate myself to just draw, yet I know it's the best way to get the brain and eyes attuned to interesting shapes and arrangements. 🤗👍
Hi Anne thanks for commenting. Do you have an understanding about why that is? I guess for me drawing helps focus and gets me calm?- does it have a different impact on you and if so, are there other approaches that help you more?
@LizAckerley I'm afraid I don't really know why I struggle - I think part of it is there is Too Much exciting stuff online. I think I need to sit down and analyse what I actually want to get out of all my arty activities.
I recognize the need to do sometimes and something with no pressure and no outcome. Only for the doing and being present in that moment. It renews my work and fill the source of creativity.
That’s exactly it isn’t it- it is really all about being present; being in the moment- I didn’t expand on that with this video but I’ll talk about it more with these drawing videos.
Very interesting! Very inspiring! ❤
Thank you I’m glad it was helpful.
This is exciting thank you.
you are welcome-I am so glad that you enjoyed it.
Thankyou for inspiring a looser me 🫶🏻
