  • We headed for an afternoon hike over Chrome & Parkhouse hills and then spent the night at Dowall Hall Farm Campsite in our van. I lost a bunch of footage from this video so apologies there is more talking than usual and less nice B-roll as I lost all the shots from my nicer B-roll camera :( Thanks for watching, as always.

    Hey everyone :) I unfortunately lost all my nice B-roll footage for this video, so it has ended up being a bit more vlog-style/chatty... I hope you don't mind! I usually don't like the videos when I talk loads partly because I'm a little self-conscious and also because I really enjoy the creative side of the filming/editing, but without the shots I couldn't make as nice a video as I'd hoped. I hope you like it anyway! Next week I'm doing my Mountain Leader training so there won't be a video but I'll see you in a couple of weeks :D xx

    Talking as a landowner in a national park, I greatly enjoy your videos along with the message you convey. I wish every visitor could watch your videos and understand the values that you and Harvey present so beautifully; the respect you have for the land - to fully enjoy it without any compromise to work of those who care for the beautiful valleys, rivers and fells - it is greatly valued and I only hope your message grows.

      Should never be anything else to start off with when hiking and being in nature.
      The waste we produce is impossible to comprehend if we saw it.
      And some people feel the need to put in extra effort sigh
      good video
      and an insightful comment from the other side of things.

    What a great video! You are the first Brits I have ever seen picking wild mushroom. I have done this when I lived in Germany with people who knew mushrooms. Some lovely photo shots. Oslo is a good one for smiles, at times he looks deep in thought, I wonder what he's thinking. I know some of the Peak District, Buxton, Edale, Goyt Valley, Dove Dale but not the area on this video, it was beautiful. Stay safe you three.

    Great video! I've not done either of these hills - although touched several parts of your route. Don't understand the missing 'B roll' shots- nor so much kissing the dog!
    Earl Sterndale (The Silent Woman) and environs is a much neglected section of the Peak District - well done for highlighting the area. The quarries tend to divide this part of the the Derbyshire Dales. Quiet camping can be tricky - set up late and leave early works fine.
    Hope MLC training went well. Fairly intense - but great for refreshing and focusing skills, and really enjoyable!

    What I’m witnessing, as are my likeminded friends who venture out in our home of Snowdonia, is that it’s better to keep the throngs away from the least trodden areas. The present footfall here is alarming to say the least, and more people are seeking out spots that the majority of visitors would previously not known about. Last week the waterfalls at Cwmllan near Snowden’s Watkin Path looked like an image from an 18-30 brochure. People swilling cans of lager, leaving their empties behind them for more conscientious types to clean up. I myself spent some time cleaning up the aftermath of a party a few years ago in that exact spot. A friend of mine kayaking on Llyn Gwynant was met with the site of dozens of beer bottles discarded on the shore beneath Elephant Rock. This type of thing at this present time is the norm it seems.
    As a fan of this channel I’m wholly aware of your own ethos and how sacred these places you are visiting are to you, and that your footprint is an invisible one, as it should be. Please continue to promote this attitude towards the British countryside, as at this very moment it seems to be under massive pressure by the wrong type of tourist, now that Magaluf is out of bounds. The National Parks need more rangers than ever, with powers to impose heavy fines on litter throwing in these areas. Even a voluntary stewardship might work, with protection afforded to stewards willing to confront these often inebriated outdoor revellers.

    • @RambleFamily
      @RambleFamily  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally agree. I think in general people who watch my videos are also the caring and considerate sort but I’m aware of the responsibility I have to ensure people know how to protect the environments they roam in. I’m currently doing a ML training course in Snowdonia and we had a long discussion about it yesterday 🙂

    I came across your channel yesterday and I wanted to thank you for your inspirational work! I did solo wild camping for the first time in the hills recently and it’s so amazing to see other women being likeminded and enjoying similar things (my family and friends think I’m a bit nuts haha). I’ve been binge watching your content and you’re doing an amazing work. I’ve always felt that women should be getting inspired to do more outdoorsy things and not be scared of going solo as not all are lucky to have this mindset within their families and it can make them feel like the odd one out. It’s so important to see that we are not alone and that it’s perfectly safe and natural to enjoy these things regardless of the gender :) you do make a difference !
    I know you’re eco-conscious so I hope you won’t take it the wrong way as you may not know this. Making cairns ( I saw your partner building one in one of the vid) is disturbing the natural habitat for many creatures and vegetation as that’s where they find shelter. In the hills it’s also dangerous as it can mislead the hikers but as rule of thumb any cairn that’s not used for navigation should go down. In some countries it’s even illegal to build them. Sorry for pointing this out but a lot of people don’t realise how it hurts the environment and the ecosystem.
    Please keep up your TH-cam and websites work and continue being an inspiration 👌🏻 And see you in Kendal during the Festiwal one day 😀

    • @RambleFamily
      @RambleFamily  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for your lovely words! In terms of the cairns, I didn’t realise there was such an issue with making them so thank you for pointing it out 🙏🏼 I would never make one in the hills as I know they are for navigation. Those we were making on the beach was a little stone balancing we were trying out and we dismantled them afterwards 😊 xx

    I just went back and binged your videos from the last month or so and something that struck me as I watched that I'd love to see would be more food details. Several times in multiple videos I see you preparing something that looks wonderful and each time I wish that I had a few more details about your food choices on your adventures. Maybe not full linked recipes but just a line in the details about your menu. This would be especially nice in your hillwalking/wildcamping videos - it would give your viewers some great ideas they might be able to adapt for their own adventures! Either way, I am thoroughly enjoying the lovely excursions you share with us. Thank you.

    Really enjoyed this video. Never actually realised how fast a pace you both walk . You really should do a video of your vinyl record collection. This is purely an assumption on my part as I think your editing along with your clever choice of music sets your videos apart

    Really enjoyed having Harvey on the camera! Really good point about finding different tracks on walks, I'm often put off going to places like Snowdon because of all the people. May I ask what your book is about? :-)

    I had to laugh at your comment of hiking Snowdon, not at you but it made me laugh as I visit the area often and see the carnage that is "parking" for people hiking the Pyg Track. Personally I keep driving to the other side and hike up the Watkins Path, you still have other folk but not many at all and you can help out the National Trust a bit too by camping at their farm at the foot of the path which a lovely wee place, although it's 2020 so not this year.
    I'm currently on my first visit to the Peak District just now as well so I may just look at some of the places you've been and check them out after I've had a look at Dovedale.

    Mate, I think you'd really like Vancouver Island. Lots of trails wilderness, mountains and wildlife. All reachable within hours. Would gladly buy you a cup of tea and lend you some maps if you ever made it over.

      @@RambleFamily Carmanah Walbran and Strathcona provincial parks are both a must if you ever make it out here. Both completely different environments, but equally stunning. Worth looking into at least. Im actually taking my daughter up to strathcona tomorrow for some mountain hiking and camping. I only just stumbled across your videos a couple days ago. Brilliant job.

    So jealous of the van! Can't wait to get out on the peaks this month (going 22nd). Only just realised you wear Vivobarefoot boots! How do you find them? I wear the primus lites for running but wasn't sure how the ankle support would be in the trackers for Hiking!

    Athena looses the b-roll and then goes on to make her best video yet - somethings happen for a reason I guess 😀💪. Good luck with the Mountain Leader training. Maybe Harvey can take over the vlog for this week? 😎😎😎
