Been skiing for 6 years, only minor injuries. I snowboard for 10 minutes and I have a broken wrist.🤔 update: I went snowboarding again a couple days ago and I got the hang of it pretty quick, even went down my hills black diamond.
As a 30 year veteran of both snow sports the answer is pretty much that learning to ski at a base level is easier but mastering skiing is nigh impossible. Snowboarding is terrible to get into, you’ll be sore for weeks from smacking your face into the snow, but once you get a base level of proficiency you can excel fairly quickly thereafter. It’s like an exponential vs logarithmic learning curve. They’re both hard, but at different points in the journey.
hello, i’m going to a resort next weekend and have never ski’ed and snowboarded a couple times like 5 years ago, we are only going for 1 day and i’m trying to decide whether to ski or snowboard. I’m pretty natural athletic and have good balance along with being a decent skateboarder, do you think i could could snowboarding and get the basics down enough to have fun in 1 day?
@@ryanodonnell6184 I’ve never seen anyone learn to snowboard in less than about a week. When I started I was already an advanced skier and I had done some surfing and I too thought that it would translate well. It did not. I recently taught a friend to snowboard and she was obsessively athletic and very coordinated. It took her about 4 days to make it down the bunny hill without crashing... some of the time. Not consistently.
@@RyanAlexanderBloom Hmm Idk I’ve seen some people, my friends and included, get down the basics in a day or two and then go down the mountain on the 2nd or 3rd day. I think it depends on the person attempting in the end.
same but for me skating on ice and skiing on ice are pretty different since when you skate you are on edges and "grip" the ice but when you ski you need to stay flat and glide across it because if you try to grip the ice you will most likely die
First time snowboarding I was on my ass 98% percent of the time, with 1% being on the board, and the other 1% on my head. First time skiing I got a few runs in with pizza and french fries.
good guy greg I learnt to ski before I went to France for the first time on artificial snow. I went with experienced skiers and was able to replicate his technique. Because of this I was easily going down black's at the end of the day on my first skiing holiday. I never got boarding lessons, just took one out one day and by the end of the day could do it just about. For me skiing is so much easier to learn but harder to master.
Ivan Cubric when your skis are parallel to each other it’s french fry and when you point your toes together it’s pizza. The reason they’re called this is because it’s easier for beginners to imagine what the skis are supposed to look like.
I learnt to ski at a very young age and skied till I was about 11 the. Switched to snowboarding, I found snowboarding way more difficult but way more fun, haven't skied since.
From my own personal experience, I came from a background of skateboarding and long boarding. So having already done board sports I was able to progress in snowboarding very quickly it only took me about 2 days to get comfortable enough with snowboarding to go down blues. But I did take lessons on my first day riding which I felt helped tremendously.
Me too. Well most of my board experience was on an electric longboard I rode to work everyday for a couple years and I believe that reeeeeaaally helped with snowboarding, it's all carving and with the motor I never had to push. I've also done some regular skateboarding in my teens just to get around never mastered many tricks, as well as some surfing and wakeboarding. I picked snowboarding up quick, but I still caught my edges pretty bad quite a few times, most of the time my crashes were just me sitting down when I felt out of control, controlled crashes if you will. I didn't take any lessons though, just went out by myself on shorwake boarding. By te end of my first season(last season) I could confidently charge the whole mountain besides cliff drops. I probably had like 50 days riding and 1.3 million vertical feet. This upcoming season I hope to double that and get my switch riding to be close to as good as my regular. I can't wait for winter, ahh! Just realized I'm replying to a year old comment, but whatever.
I was learning how to ski and I turned out *very* good I didn't understand why but I learned that if you know how to skate or ice skate your going to be good and I will tell you that I suck at ice skating but and when I tried skiing I was a fast learner so I would just say if you have no experience with skating and you try skiing then you will fall on your butt more but if you know how to skate and try skiing your going to be a little above average but still fall on your butt.
I am a skier and today I decided to try snowboarding. I watched tones of tutorial videos before I try , but eventually, after one hour of practice I could not even slide down on the baby lifts area. Also trying to take a plate lift was impossible, I could not control the direction of the board. I tried plate lifts 2 times and then I gave up.
Jie Lyu today I felt the front of my board start to go down and I couldn’t help myself, I was already falling and I landed on my face, my friend saw me and I couldn’t see out of my eyes for like 30 seconds also my friend thought I had a concussion, luckily I was fine.
Been snowboarding only for 12 years also skated a little before that too. This video is pretty fair on both sides, although i have never skied. Snowboarding can be pretty brutal if you catch an edge badly. BUY A HELMET. Knee and Butt padding encouraged if conditions are icy.
I have never seen wrist guards as any good. I catch my self everytime i fall, Never hurt myself. But i have played football as a goalie a long time, And i box. So i guess my wrists are really sturdy and hard to injuire.
TeqHDcasper playing football and boxing doesn't make your bones stronger. You just haven't fallen hard enough to break a wrist. The only way you can make your bones stronger is by breaking or fracturing them. Good thought though haha!
I skied my whole life growing up and actually tried snowboarding when the ski valley I went to actually allowed snowboards on the mountain. I think skiing feels very natural. When just learning and moving, it feels like walking/running. It’s a very natural way to move and balance. It’s symmetrical. You don’t really need to worry about leaning too far forward or back until you get more advanced. It’s mainly side to side and just making sure you don’t cross the skis. Snowboarding, while I picked up fairly quickly, was difficult. It isn’t natural to move that way. It strains one leg more than the other and isn’t the greatest option if you don’t constantly have a slope. Flat sections are awkward. Skiing is like walking. Snowboarding requires a very good sense of balance on your heel and toe and weight forward or back. You also have to spend some time figuring out if you like goofy or regular and how to mount your bindings at what angles and how to ride switch and reshuffled your hips. But once you have the basics, it’s much easier to toss around and do tricks. Skies can get sketchy with tricks. I never rode with poles but watching park guys with poles was nuts. Just lots of gear to handle. And gotta make sure you have good alignment and don’t cross the skis. I will NEVER say one is better than the other. It’s like a car vs a motorcycle. I just like both. Lastly, if you want snowboard practice, I’d recommend a Onewheel or hydrofoil. For skiing, good luck. I skied my whole life and couldn’t roller skate. The two don’t seem to translate, at least for me.
i’ve been skiing for 12 years. it’s definitely easier to learn how to ski but wayyy harder to progress. i found myself sticking to greens and blues for a while and anything else was too much for me to handle. eventually i tried black trails and it took a few seasons for me to be fully comfortable. a couple seasons after that i started skiing double blacks and that’s where i’m at now. snowboarding is cool but i don’t have as much fun as i do skiing 🤷♂️
I’m similar to you in that I ski’d first when I was 8 and then converted to snowboarding in middle school. I’m now 22 years old and I am mainly a snowboarder but every once in a blue moon I’ll put on my skis. I think you made very good points. I don’t understand the whole “easier to learn hard to master” thing, and why it’s so well accepted because in my personal experience, I learned all the basics for skiing the first day. You have way more control when you’re facing forward going down the slope. I skateboarded before I did either snow sport and I still remember how much hell I endured to get the hang of snowboarding. I think both are equally hard to master but snowboarding puts much more emphasis on balance and skiing puts more emphasis on control and speed. In terms of tricks, snowboarding is way easier in my opinion, I’ve only been able to successfully grind a rail on skis a hand full of times, and the other times...well you can imagine how I ended up 😂
So this is from my personal experience. I went skiing and snowboarding for the first time, and spent 2 hours on both of them. And surprisingly I found snowboarding easier then skiing. I think it’s just personal preference, I find the fact that your legs on a snowboard are fixed into one place much more easier then having the two legs seperated . So I’m going to stick with snowboarding. It just comes down to what you prefer. Try both and then decide which one is better for you.
@@nolixss694 for me it felt easier, with skiing i didnt feel like a was in control at al while with snowboarding i almost never felt out of control. Only went to the falling leave stage though so need to practice alot more
@@nolixss694 i did a little bit of skateboarding but am rubbish at it. I think for me it's the being tied in with both legs that really helps. No chance of crossing ski's and no accidental splits.
Awesome video! Nice, unbiased analysis stating purely the facts. As a snowboarder from southern california, I'd have to agree that snowboarding has quite a learning curve as a first timer. I already knew how to skateboard when I first started, and it still took me a few seasons to learn enough control to comfortably do whatever I want on a snowboard with speed.
I have done also both, I started up with skiing and this year i tried snowboard, I actually learned the basics on both pretty fast but snowboarding was much harder at the start, especially the curves but ones you got it your improvement at snowboarding is gonna be way faster than skiing
At the beggining skiing is easier because you rarely fall down compared to snowboarding, because you only have got two edges in snowboarding, so you loose one, you hit the ground. But snowboarding is more intuitive: yo lean to one side, you go to that side. Skiing is less obvious and requires more coordination. But once you get it, you have got more control (four edges, two independent points of support) so snowboarding is more difficult at higher levels I think because of that. But at the end, both are difficult, depending on what you want to do and the level you are playing in. Both are fun and each has got its own pecularities (although I am a snowboarder and going sideways to me is way more fun hehehe). I always compare them to cars and bikes. None is better than the other, both use the same terrains, but they are completely different. You can have fun with what you choose, it is just a matter of tastes, that's all. But I always said that skiing was born because of the need for an eficient transportation in the snow. While a snowboard is a totally useless invention, as a piano or a guitar, it is only useful for one thing: to have fun. That was its purpose when it was created. So, as many couldn't live without music, many couldn't live without snowboarding. Both nowadays drink from each other. Skiing is always first in technologies, while snowboarding is always first in riding and progression. As Candide Thovex said, snowboarding tought skiers a new way of riding out of racing. And at the end, we are all riders and feel the same things, at the snowpark, in deep pow, or the mountain. Exactly the same things. And to me that is fucking awesome.
Having learned to ski before learning to board myself, I agree with you 100%. I would also add boarding adds the additional challenge for beginners of one-foot sliding, and having to stop and strap in after every lift ride.
agreed, I skiied for around 5/6 years then switched to snowboarding which ive been doing for about 5 years and have started properly getting into park recently, I fucking love it!
Honestly I have no idea how people ski, it blows my mind haha. I tried once when I was 4 and could not get the hang of it.. I've switched to snowboarding and have been riding since then. Props for being able to do both! Although you kinda mentioned it, I think spins 270 + on/off rails are harder on a snowboard from what I've seen.
i am 9 years old i have been skiing for 5 years by now.i haven't tried snowboarding i think skiing is challenging until you know how to speed stop and parallel ski then its fun so michael sorger you should jump on skis and hit the mountain
I'm the same with snowboarding! Been skiing since I was 10 I'm 20 now and I have only got my level 3 in snowboard. The idea of having both my feet locked into the same place seems sketchy
definitely agree with what you said about start with skiing. i’ve been skiing since i was 6 and hopped on a board for the first time last season. it took me about two small runs until i got it. Maybe just from watching a ton of snowboarders etc it was easy for me to pick up. but i’m super happy it came easy because now i also really reallyy l love both sports
Great video. I’m a former ski instructor and agree. Personally, I picked up black capable snowboarding within 2 days yet I’m still trying to perfect skiing. In terms of which is better, that’s up to the individual... but I like telling people that the my crew’s snowboard instructors usually ski on our freeride days (but that’s just for good natured trash talk... they still love snowboarding).
Skiing is much easier to learn since i didnt need any instructor or any help to start but snowboarding is much hard to start because you gotta learn how to do things.
the only help i got on my board was my cousins saying "yep you can do this one".... twas a black diamond.... i sure as hell couldn't. But it made the bunny hill feel like a waste of time.
I started skiing when I was very young and I have loved skiing for almost all of my life. Lately though, I have tried snowboarding. Snowboarding wasn’t hard for me to learn at all. I can’t go too fast nor can I traverse through obstacles well but I can go down black diamonds when they are empty. Skiing was a lot different because there are a lot more ways to progress. Snowboarding is just about basics that take a while to get down. Skiing may be easiest to learn at first but once you try to learn to go fast it gets very hard to learn what to do. Skiing also doesn’t involve much falling. In snowboarding, falling has a use. Whilst in skiing falling is much more painful and hard. I also noticed that snowboarding wasn’t as much about speed when in skiing speed is what makes it awesome. Once you master skiing it’s a lot easier to go down mountains as fast as possible. While on a snowboard you have to work hard to go slower than you normally would. Please excuse me if you have had a different experience skiing or snowboarding but this is just what my experience was like. I tried as hard as possible not to be biased because I prefer skiing much more than snowboarding after trying both for a while. In the end I would say snowboarding is harder because you will fall a lot learning and learning control is very hard. I would also like to say that it was a very hard choice between the two because it took me only one and a half seasons to master snowboarding and 4 seasons to master skiing. Time doesn’t mean one is harder although it does play a factor. Overall, snowboarding was just a lot harder to learn, the only problem was that there weren’t a lot of ways to progress.
This was awesome. It was cool to hear your perspective. And I completely agree. Way Harder to become a smooth fluid skier. You can fake skiing much easier. But to be good take a long time. The learning curve and courage to hit rails on skis doesn't come easy. You pretty damn good at both and I give you mad props for doing both. But yes snowboarding is hard to learn it takes a lot of punishment. But I feel like once your good at it that's about it. With skiing. There is just a way more technical side to it. To really be a smooth rider takes a lot of time a co dept of what smooth really is. And your rails skills are damn good. Great vid!
I think it is just not possible to be good at snowboarding without good technique in the basics. If never seen a boarder that can spin medium sized jumps but cannot carve well. But plenty on skis
I’ve been skiing for 5 years and I have not gotten majorly hurt, I even went with a broken wrist. Most of my injuries were from other people running over me and jumping higher than I thought I was going to go. My first time snowboarding I had a lesson and was struggling. The first hill I went down after I fell and broke my wrist. A year or two later I went again, (this was after I had learned to longboard hills, and skate) it was a lot easier and was more fun. I recently bought a snowboard and I can’t wait til I can go out again and do both. My biggest recommendation is to learn to longboard in the off-season and go on hills. It makes learning to snowboard a lot easier and you will be much less scared of falling because with longboarding hills you should already know how to fall.
Moved south and havent been skiing since I was in 3rd grade. In my 20's now and headed back up north and this just made me realize how much I used to love and miss it
I have been skiing since i was 3 and i am 13 now all my friends started snowboarding last year and they all are pretty good so i think skiing is easy to learn but takes years to master
@Lekel Schlieper.....wow do you think so?...I've been a skier years ago but now a snowboarder since i started February this year and that 'triangle of stability' makes crashes so painless imho....ive crashed on ski's and nearly twisted my knees off and bent my legs some painfull 'almost breaking' angles in the past...good job the bindings let go or I'd have broken my legs/knees for sure...
I have a question for all of the internet to help me with I started skiing at the age of 7 and did so until I was 15, I remember being quite good at it, so good that it kinda got boring, so I started snowboarding. now, I'm 23 and i kinda want to try skiing again, but I'm not sure wether I would have to take lessons again or not. So do you forget how to ski, if you snowboard for a couple of years?
I skied for 3 years and this season swapped to snowboard and the first day was really hard and after 2-3 days i wanted to throw the towel in but something clicked as i got the technique done properly and i love it now.
i agree with a lot of what you guys are saying when i started snow boarding i could barelly get down the hill without going to slow and walking but once i figured out how to not catch your edge i got the confidence and now i can go down hill without even carving or at least only a few times if its a bigger hill.
I started off skiing when I was 8 or 9 and did so untill last year (2016). Last season I decided to try snowboarding. I was a natural and could do rails in the park in just a few days. However, I had wakeboarded before so it was simply a matter of shifting my center of mass forward on the board. I think it's safe to say that if you have any experience with other board sports, snowboarding will be much easier in the park when compared to skiing.
I share the same opinion. Been skiing for the last 4 years and absolutely love it. But just right out of curiosity, I tried snowboarding with a lot of cursing after falling on my bum bone the fifth time. Didnt give up though, just to be able to snowboard whenever I am with snowboarding friends, to not have this different dynamic when skiing with them. So I've just recently started going offpiste and doing small jumps on the skis, which I still struggle with, but found it much easier or intuitive with the board, even at beginner level.
Spot on! All you need now is some time on a telemark set up. Dominate all 3. ;) Oh and I forgot alpine snowboarding. Also super enjoyable. Probably the most difficult outta the 4 impo. Thanks for the video. Cheers.
When I was around two my parents decided to move to Colorado and thought I would like snowboarding. I was two. Around 8 or 9 I got more serious about it and around 10 or so I started skiing and have been since. In my opinion skiing is easier as I have tried snowboarding off and on. The crashes are worse on skis usually, but you crash a lot more snowboarding.
I've sbowboarded for a long time and I'm quite good at it. This year I picked up skis from the rental shop and immediatly went to the park. After two days of skiing I can already do 270's out both ways and 50 50. For me skiing is way easier, but I guess my backround in snowboarding helped me on that. I wanna argue that 270's out are way easier on skis because you can create spin on top of the rail, on a snowboard you can't stop your rotation let alone trying to rotate pretzel. For example doing 270 on, you cannot stop the rotation, you can keep the board from rotating by rotating you upper body but if it's a long rail you can't hold it forever. Spinning pretzel is so much easier on skis as you can stop your rotation on the rail and start spinning the other way.
Completely agree with you. I picked up skiing when I was young and did it for many years before learning to snowboard. These days I do both, but I board more because it's easier on my knees. Basic riding takes MUCH less skill on skis than on the snowboard, mainly thanks to the ease of carving skis. Tricks and advanced riding I'd say are difficult in both, but I think you're right, the snowboard is more forgiving in the beginning because there is only one and you don't have to worry about your second ski fucking off while you're trying to land a jump or flip. Great video!
I'm a skateboarder and i am going on wintersport vacation with school and i gotta say you're making snowboarding look easy for me but i can imagine myself trying an ollie on a snowboard and eating shit because well can't slide your foot
I just feel like snowboarding just looks and feels so much smoother and visually intresting. I have mad respect to freestyle skiers who pull off crazy tricks but comparing the two I would def go snowboarding for life
i started learning to snowboard a few years ago, and i went with a teacher for a day. Then the next day i went with my mum (a skier) on the blue slope on our run. By the 3 - 4 th day, i was snowboarding down red slopes with a least a little confidence. My point here is that yes it may take some people ages to learn to snowboard, but that doesn't mean it takes everyone ages.
I was skiing fot a few years, never really enjoyed it and never managed to be „good“ at it. With the snowboard, I‘ve been boarding for now 6 years. I always enjoyed it, even at the start.
The part about learning how to go down a blue square in one year was very accurate. I have been snowboarding for four years and have not gone down a black diamond yet, mostly because I hurts reaaaaaal bad when you catch a tip and eat it, which i have a lot. I am a lot like you (with the switch in middle school). Plus my Dad skis every year for the past thirty so he would be good at teaching me how. So I think I am going to make the switch this up coming season.
Same, I was on blues on day two, did a black on day five and comfortable with about 30mph on blues that same day. Within two months I was doing trees and a few weeks later doing black trees and open double blacks runs. I was trying cornice drops the last few weekends off the season (and this was last season which got cut short in mid March because of the coof). This season I'm getting comfortable with switch riding, euro carves, side hits, big jumps and working on spins.
Skiing by far has to be easier .. I snowboard my buddy skies .. both pretty good one day at the top of the mountain we swapped skis and snowboard with each other .. I skied the whole damn mountain like nothing be couldn’t even stand up on my snowboard ... let that just tell ya something
I've been skiing since I was 2 and snowboarding since i was 8 (i'm now 18). in my experience skiing is a lot easier to get started, but harder to get really good. for snowboarding it's really difficult to get started but easier than skiing to get better (although still takes a lot of practice and it is difficult).
Marcus Huusko Your is specifing someones belonging such as This is your phone. While You're is referring to the person themself such as You're a skateboarder.
Skating has a lot of resemblance to skiing. I play hockey a lot and when I first skied I could go down blues, and on my second day, I could go down a black.
I first tried to ski but I couldn’t even turn so I constantly was crashing on other people and then I tried snowboarding and I dit it first try. That’s probably because I skate
Ive been a skiier for I think 5 years now and I switched to snowboarding last year, Its definitely taking me longer to learn to snowboard than it did with skiing
My dad is an extremely good skier skiing for 30 years, and when I was 13 he taught me how to ski first day picked it up within an hour second day I felt as if I had been skiing for weeks I could get some blues comfortably and around the fourth day I did my first black diamond I tried snowboarding once, ended badly could barely even get down a green so it depends on the person
Same it’s fun tho I’ve been skiing for 10 years 4 in park and I’ve been snowboarding for 2 years I switch back and forth and if you already have experience with skiing you will pick up snowboarding fast got rail slides and 360 on my snowboard in 2 years so I think it’s because I already have park experience but all I can say is powder on a snowboard is so extremely fun and park on skis is extremely fun try both they have both positives and negatives
In my opinion I just love skiing and I have been skiing since very young and I picked it up very fast but I do agree about park stuff being a little bit harder, but it’s not too hard too pick up on if you work at it
So I'm pretty new I guess to both sports but I have been skiing for a year. I tried snowboarding before I started skiing and I sucked. But since then I learned how to skateboard and kinda want to try snowboarding again. should I?
I definitely recommend the tip on 2:12 because I did skiing for 4 years and I could get down blacks pretty easily. I did my first snowboarding lesson today and I already can do blue squares. It’s also because I’ve been riding a skateboard and rip stick.
I think snow boarding is easier because I do both and it took 2 years to get the hang of ⛷ skiing and not Evan a year to get the hang of snowboarding 🏂
it could also be if he started with skiing, the feeling of going on the snow can be a obstacle in its own so if he started skiing than when he swapped to snowboard he adapted easier
The Shu - Exactly. They are different in many ways but fundamentally they are the same. They both involve learning edge control, balance, and going with the hill’s fall line. So whichever you use to learn it will obviously be the hardest for you. Also, I wouldn’t rule out the ‘learning disability’ either 😂
Tysm, there was a field trip at school to a place and we had a choice of tubing, skiing or snowboarding. I knew I didn't want to go tubing, and the decision was so difficult, but after this vid, I knew what I wanted to do.
Ive been skiing since i was 6 (i live in ireland so ive only gone about 6 times) im almost at an advanced level (im 14 now) and i want to start snowboarding the community looks incredible amd really welcoming, my whole family skis and im the only one thinking about snowbaording. I cant wait!
That’s capppppppppp, you probably learned how to snowboard on the bunny hill, THE BUNNY HILL, and fell at least 10 times, you 10000000% can’t go down double black diamonds and probably not even blue runs, so that’s some cap 🧢.
I agree with your conclusion pretty much , but i would still think it depends from person to person , i ride aggressive rollerblades for more then 10 years now , and when it came to choosing i just found that snowboard feels a lot nicer to me , even thou i was looking sideways , it just felt more natural / and with that it was easier to learn , no instructor or anything took me a day or two to comfortably go down the first blue . Great video :) .
If you just try to go out and surf on a snowboard, you'll probably have a bad time. If you have an instructor or someone to teach you the stance and technique, and correct you if you revert to surfing habits, you'll have a good chance of success. One common problem new snowboarders have is the tendency to weight the back foot to avoid picking up too much speed, which results in even more speed and loss of control followed by a crash shortly after. If you're a surfer you'll probably do this sub consciously. Once you get past this, there are enough skill transfers that you should pick it up pretty quickly.
I live in Hawaii and regularly surf but my first time I chose to try to ski and it took me two weeks to learn to turn, the next season I went and snowboarded and within two weeks I was hitting 6ft jumps doing box and rails and easily riding black diamonds
As a hardcore skier I will tell you one thing people. When you start using top shelf equipment and even professional one, it's way different. For example, skies I use now, are for professional skiers(literally used in competitions and made especially for competitors), they require speed, working a lot with your mass, pushing the ski way harder and last of all their demand for speed, if you ride slowly you're likely to fall etc. I don't have time and enough English knowledge (for explaining skiing aspects), but once I tried snowboarding, after one ride I got used to it and had no problem with going down in a decent speed, although this might be the cause of my skateboarding past
I think skiing is easier to learn but harder to progress. Snowboarding is harder to learn but once you have the basics down, progression is fast.
This is super accurate
Your very right I've been snowboarding for 6 years and it was hard at first but got easier
I've been snowboarding for 6 years and I'm progressing way faster than ski's. I quit skiing. Now I can back flip barrel roll on a snowboard.

Yeah like he said in the video is the edges. Edges are so annoying to deal with on a snowboard because you cant flatline.

I started at 58. knee pads and wrist protectors. Now I can board no problems. Its fun!

I'm an ice skater so I know how to move my feet on ice, kinda helps with skiing, when I tried snowboarding it felt like skateboarding on steroids
I 2 am really good @ ice skating & i saw it helped me in skiing by the turning. I've only skied like 5 times in my life. Never went snowboarding yet
Yeah I suck at ice skating but had some experience and when I tried skiing I was very good at it.
same but for me skating on ice and skiing on ice are pretty different since when you skate you are on edges and "grip" the ice but when you ski you need to stay flat and glide across it because if you try to grip the ice you will most likely die
I feel like Ice skating has really no similarities to boarding or skiing, riding on snow and riding on a sheet of ice are completely different
@@reymysterio7412 mhm okay, Ive never went skiing so I assumed they might have been similar
I'll say the ICY GROUND is definitely the hardest.
It sucks on skis, but it must suck worse on a board. Boarding looks like it would be a blast in deep powder if you get to ski out west.
Ur board slides out from underneath u the best way to go over ice is to go fast tbh so u don’t worry bout the board skipping out when u hit an edge
Skiing is a blast in powder too but works best with big planks.
Quan Jia Liu plus))))
Damn right bro
First time snowboarding I was on my ass 98% percent of the time, with 1% being on the board, and the other 1% on my head. First time skiing I got a few runs in with pizza and french fries.
pizza is for peasants
What’s French?
good guy greg I learnt to ski before I went to France for the first time on artificial snow. I went with experienced skiers and was able to replicate his technique. Because of this I was easily going down black's at the end of the day on my first skiing holiday. I never got boarding lessons, just took one out one day and by the end of the day could do it just about. For me skiing is so much easier to learn but harder to master.
Pizza and french fries? What's that supposed to be?
Ivan Cubric when your skis are parallel to each other it’s french fry and when you point your toes together it’s pizza. The reason they’re called this is because it’s easier for beginners to imagine what the skis are supposed to look like.
I learnt to ski at a very young age and skied till I was about 11 the. Switched to snowboarding, I found snowboarding way more difficult but way more fun, haven't skied since.
Same but i started when i was 9ish
Fish Smell Bad same. I skied until I was like 10 and switched.
Fish Smell Bad fact
I currently snowboard because that’s what I grew up doing, but I might want to try skiiing at some point.

From my own personal experience, I came from a background of skateboarding and long boarding. So having already done board sports I was able to progress in snowboarding very quickly it only took me about 2 days to get comfortable enough with snowboarding to go down blues. But I did take lessons on my first day riding which I felt helped tremendously.
same!
Skiboarding is by far the hardest
Ian770 harder too learn but tricks are easier on boards
Jimmy Cashman r/wooooosh
At school we have a "ski and snowboard club" but I use to always say "snow and skiboard"
Ian770 sorry but u have one “o” too much
I was learning how to ski and I turned out *very* good I didn't understand why but I learned that if you know how to skate or ice skate your going to be good and I will tell you that I suck at ice skating but and when I tried skiing I was a fast learner so I would just say if you have no experience with skating and you try skiing then you will fall on your butt more but if you know how to skate and try skiing your going to be a little above average but still fall on your butt.
Well I can relate the that “smashing your head and face” part because today was my first time snowboarding and I have gone through them all
Jie Lyu today I felt the front of my board start to go down and I couldn’t help myself, I was already falling and I landed on my face, my friend saw me and I couldn’t see out of my eyes for like 30 seconds also my friend thought I had a concussion, luckily I was fine.

You're right

Been snowboarding only for 12 years also skated a little before that too. This video is pretty fair on both sides, although i have never skied. Snowboarding can be pretty brutal if you catch an edge badly. BUY A HELMET. Knee and Butt padding encouraged if conditions are icy.
Struan 1210 as well as crash pants and wrist guards if u have a tendency to try and catch urself if u fall
I have never seen wrist guards as any good. I catch my self everytime i fall, Never hurt myself. But i have played football as a goalie a long time, And i box. So i guess my wrists are really sturdy and hard to injuire.
Only 12 years....
Not only 12 years, snowboard only as in not skiing just snowboarding
I also had a really hard time with skiïng for that exact reason, gonna try snowboarding next week and see how that is for me
@@daan_me how was snowboarding compared to skiing?

@@daan_me do you skateboard or surf?
The only relevant comment under this video!!! 😂Great words.
My mans wrote a whole 5 paragraph essay for us on this
Having learned to ski before learning to board myself, I agree with you 100%. I would also add boarding adds the additional challenge for beginners of one-foot sliding, and having to stop and strap in after every lift ride.
just do what you love... personally i love to snowboard but skiing is dope as fuck too. If you love it, do it!
I agree, try both, see which ya like more!
agreed, I skiied for around 5/6 years then switched to snowboarding which ive been doing for about 5 years and have started properly getting into park recently, I fucking love it!
Yeah there's definitely areas of each that are trickier, try skiing now that you can board! You'll find it much easier
i am 9 years old i have been skiing for 5 years by now.i haven't tried snowboarding i think skiing is challenging until you know how to speed stop and parallel ski then its fun so michael sorger you should jump on skis and hit the mountain
I'm the same with snowboarding! Been skiing since I was 10 I'm 20 now and I have only got my level 3 in snowboard. The idea of having both my feet locked into the same place seems sketchy
Michael Sorger you've got to try it again. Maybe being older and having a better sense of balance will make it easier.
Michael Sorger I’m glad that there are people having a solid conversation on the topic
definitely agree with what you said about start with skiing. i’ve been skiing since i was 6 and hopped on a board for the first time last season. it took me about two small runs until i got it.
No shit Sherlock
the only help i got on my board was my cousins saying "yep you can do this one".... twas a black diamond.... i sure as hell couldn't.
You are very clearly a skier and very bias. Almost sounds like your trying to give yourself an excuse as to why you're not progressing fast enough :)
If your going from skii to snowboard the one thing that will throw you off is the sensation of having both feet stuck to one board
I think rails are easier on a board but jumps are easier on skis
BREAD BATH Also skis are much more forgiving when you crash
@Lekel Schlieper.....wow do you think so?...I've been a skier years ago but now a snowboarder since i started February this year and that 'triangle of stability' makes crashes so painless imho....ive crashed on ski's and nearly twisted my knees off and bent my legs some painfull 'almost breaking' angles in the past...good job the bindings let go or I'd have broken my legs/knees for sure...
BREAD BATH yeah
Lawrence Stevens I totally agree
Lawrence Stevens now you are talking about falling but landing the jump is just more easy on skies if you do fall its more painfull ;)
I have a question for all of the internet to help me with
I started skiing at the age of 7 and did so until I was 15, I remember being quite good at it, so good that it kinda got boring, so I started snowboarding.
now, I'm 23 and i kinda want to try skiing again, but I'm not sure wether I would have to take lessons again or not.
So do you forget how to ski, if you snowboard for a couple of years?
I'd say its one of those things you never really forget, just like riding a bike. It might take a day or two to get adjusted, but you should be fine
Nah you'll be fine
Nah but it takes a couple days to get back into the rythem of things
I think it's safe to say that if you have any experience with other board sports, snowboarding will be much easier in the park when compared to skiing.
i’ve snowboarded my entire life and the first day ever skiing i went down a black diamond 2nd run. maddd easy
😂
I like skiing more but for me it's really hard to hit a rail with skis
Cheers.

thats your opinion
@@flixfn9969 no it’s literally a fact😂 snowboarding is harder to learn but easier to master and vice versa
I stared skiing when I was 4 and stared snowboarding today and I love to snow broading
My first time ever snowboarding a few years ago I smashed my head
i’ve been skiing since i was around 4/5 ; i’m 13 and on sunday i’m trying snowboarding for the first time 😂
Took me 2 days to learn how I turn and carve. Went on greens and blues. Easy PZ and fun.
to really carve it takes years
Completely agree with you.
I'm a skateboarder and i am going on wintersport vacation with school and i gotta say you're making snowboarding look easy for me but i can imagine myself trying an ollie on a snowboard and eating shit because well can't slide your foot
literally just split my clavicle on my first time snowboarding :(:(:( AND I WAS SO GOOD TOOO
I started off skiing at 5 and when I turned 6 I switched to snowboarding and haven't skied since.
As someone who’s done riding and park on both I can firmly say, this is completely factual lmao
I’ve been skiing for a while now and just started snowboard. Snowboarding is so much harder
I was skiing and snowboarding. Now i'm snowboarding. I think that snowboard is harder overall
I was skiing fot a few years, never really enjoyed it and never managed to be „good“ at it.
With the snowboard, I‘ve been boarding for now 6 years. I always enjoyed it, even at the start.
I’ve mostly skied and I’m okay at it. I will try snowboarding in spring and thanks to the video, I now know what I have to suffer.
One thing i like bout snowboarding is if u slide rails u dont have to worry bout ur ballz getting crushed😂
In my first season I went down every type of trail(I’m a snowboarder)
Same. But today I catched front edge for the first time. I hit my chin and lip to the road. Omg. It hurts so much. Skiing never was so painful.
Like the top comment said, snowboarding is harder to learn, but skiing is harder to master.
Same like you. I cannot limit myself and stick just to one sport, it’s impossible for me. When I get bored with one, I do the other. Amazing balance!

Your a skater: skiing

Marcus Huusko Your is specifing someones belonging such as This is your phone. While You're is referring to the person themself such as You're a skateboarder.
Skating has zero resemblance to skiing in my opinion.
Marcus Huusko but what if your a scooter rider
Skating has a lot of resemblance to skiing. I play hockey a lot and when I first skied I could go down blues, and on my second day, I could go down a black.
I first tried to ski but I couldn’t even turn so I constantly was crashing on other people and then I tried snowboarding and I dit it first try. That’s probably because I skate

Same with me
I didnt realize you rode at mt st louis moonstone in this I work there
Ive been a skiier for I think 5 years now and I switched to snowboarding last year, Its definitely taking me longer to learn to snowboard than it did with skiing
Thats great but there is a difference between skiing steep slopes and skiing them well
i have been skiing all my life and when I snowboarded for one day I could easily do a blue square by the end of the day
Same it’s fun tho I’ve been skiing for 10 years 4 in park and I’ve been snowboarding for 2 years I switch back and forth and if you already have experience with skiing you will pick up snowboarding fast got rail slides and 360 on my snowboard in 2 years so I think it’s because I already have park experience but all I can say is powder on a snowboard is so extremely fun and park on skis is extremely fun try both they have both positives and negatives
Such a loaded question lol
All I can say is 10 years skiing no injuries. 20 mins of snowboarding and now I have a broken arm. That is all I can say about what is BETTER (skiing)
I think that just means that you're a lot more used to skiing, and a bit shit at snowboarding. No need to say which is better because you fell over.
@@rubenp9429 lmao aint that the truth
In my opinion I just love skiing and I have been skiing since very young and I picked it up very fast but I do agree about park stuff being a little bit harder, but it’s not too hard too pick up on if you work at it
I %100 agree and I love both and have done both the same amount of time
So I'm pretty new I guess to both sports but I have been skiing for a year. I tried snowboarding before I started skiing and I sucked. But since then I learned how to skateboard and kinda want to try snowboarding again. should I?

Gotta get relaxed. I use CBD from 4 Corners Cannabis like a lot of the pros do.
I definitely recommend the tip on 2:12 because I did skiing for 4 years and I could get down blacks pretty easily. I did my first snowboarding lesson today and I already can do blue squares. It’s also because I’ve been riding a skateboard and rip stick.
Couldn’t be more well said
A lot harder getting off the ski lift on a snowboard when your a beginner compared to skiing
Fell off 3 times with skis (I've mastered it now) but I really can't imagine snowboards
Snowboarding is harder to learn but easier to Master
Tysm, there was a field trip at school to a place and we had a choice of tubing, skiing or snowboarding. I knew I didn't want to go tubing, and the decision was so difficult, but after this vid, I knew what I wanted to do.
Ive been skiing since i was 6 (i live in ireland so ive only gone about 6 times) im almost at an advanced level (im 14 now) and i want to start snowboarding the community looks incredible amd really welcoming, my whole family skis and im the only one thinking about snowbaording. I cant wait!
Doesn’t matter what’s harder, snowboarding is way more fun😂 (I’ve done both many times)
Spencer Han yesss
No U probably just haven’t got into skiing
Been skiing for 8 years, took me one day to learn how to snowboard
Sure thing bud.
Ok buddy
That’s capppppppppp, you probably learned how to snowboard on the bunny hill, THE BUNNY HILL, and fell at least 10 times, you 10000000% can’t go down double black diamonds and probably not even blue runs, so that’s some cap 🧢.
To sum it up
Skiing: easier to learn, harder to master
Snowboarding: harder to learn easier to master
Ashton Sober yeah I totally didn’t see that 20 times while scrolling through the comments, thanks
I really like this unbiased video and the comment section not just solely supporting one side
is snowboarding easier to learn if you surf?
Iolo Clement yeah I️ surf and ski personally, but can snowboard fine because of my ability to surf and skateboard
oh fuck yeah, that and wakeboarding are the most similar board sports from my experience
Yeah I surf and can ski but want to try snowboarding over Christmas this year
If you just try to go out and surf on a snowboard, you'll probably have a bad time.
I don’t know about you but when I’m skiing the only thing I see snowboarders doing is adjusting their board😂
Premium TNF
That’s because to get on a lift you have to unlatch 1 boot and once you get on the top of the mountain you have to latch it back on
Or they walk at the not steep parts connecting to slopes
WarWolf but sometimes they just sit in the middle of a slope
You have to strap and unstrap a boot for the lifts if you dont then good luck😆
@@aaronwalsh9195 busting your ass is tiring.
I busted my ass when i went skiing for the first time
Same bro, I’m gonna be so sorees
