      CamKam123 I have a local hill with only 3 jumps. 2 jumps have 5ish foot gaps and the 3rd is a big 50footer. i get as much speed as i can and i still cant clear that knuckle, i always clip the very edge and tumble all the way down. Im sure if you tried enough you could land the 40 footer.

    The diversity in size of the jumps at that mountain are amazing. My mountain has either huge jumps or tiny hoppers so it is really hard for me to learn

    There are a bunch of things to love about this vid. I just hit blues for the first time this weekend after an edgetune (the first since i got my board 2yrs ago) and 15ft of powder at squaw. The feeling of leveling up (the biggest thing i love about this vid)... I identify with doug and was cheering him and feeling his frustrations. Your channel has helped me on my snowboard journey. You look so natural jumping, Doug. I'm harpy for u. I was having fun watching the video. I'm itchy to try next trip. However, I'm 53. Number one concern is the impact to my knees. If a knuckle is cleared, will impact be much milder?

    • @feelnsublime
      @feelnsublime 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Zhou Pan - thanks for the compliment! I found hitting the knuckle at low speeds didn't hurt my knees... but I'm sure if they were bigger jumps it could be a lot more painful!

    • @kaydenmcdonagh1819
      @kaydenmcdonagh1819 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Zhou Pan - Yes, much, much milder. Especially for the larger ones. Just say screw it and hit it full speed after a few times just riding over it. Thats what I did and I find it much easier after you land the first 5 to 10 jumps or less.

    • @TeqHDcasper
      @TeqHDcasper 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zhou Pan If it is a jump where the kicker is the same level as the knuckle, or almost same level it never hurts. The only thing it can hurt is under your feet if youre a beginner and new to the impact on your feet.

    • @nathanlee4560
      @nathanlee4560 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      if u make it past the knuckle it’s a lot smoother

    • @earthwormsim8068

      Certainly will be.
      Grab some compression knee braces or at least see how they feel to wear. Im only 26 with a bung knee from skate boarding, but compression braces help me knee feel strong and stable when hitting medium jumps. Certainly help to reduce landing strains and stresses.

    • @BlackberryTheMCPro
      @BlackberryTheMCPro 8 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      dbrazierr Make sure you land with your knees slightly bent. They will act like shock absorbers and make the landing that much easier Also make sure you stay balanced as youre landing. Return your center of gravity to over the middle of the board. This will prevent your board slipping out from under you as you land.

    • @alexcouret
      @alexcouret 8 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Practice a lot on natural jumps, and even on ollies while riding through the slopes !
      Whenever you feel like it, just pop an ollie with enough speed to get yourself confortable with it, and then do the same on small bumps, and then you just increase the size of the jumps until you get into parks :)
      And most importantly bend your knees !

    These kinds of videos of you teaching your friends/beginners work really well! Keep up the good work!
    I think I've learned more of the videos of you teaching others than the ones of you 'showing how to do it.
    I've learned a ton from this one, I think I might hit these bigger jumps as well the next time I'll be riding! Thanks man!

    thank! more of those! it really helps to watch a regular guy learn instead of all the triple cork 1080s masters that really intimidate you.

      Trolliixz nah they updated the snowboards so they don’t allow you to pop as much. Too many people getting hurt. You can see it in the latest patch notes

    For a snowboarder like myself who has always geared towards freeride/mountain double blacks but has strayed away from the intimidating park, this is helpful and meditative to see.

    I do love that Kevin brings along someone less experienced to test out his theories. Even if everything he says isn't 100% accurate, it allows us to get a good look at what us as viewers might be doing wrong and make corrections just by observation.

    Cool video. As a dude that lives in the flatlands of MI, I only get to head out to major parks once or twice a season and I end up spending most of my first day just getting back into the swing of things. It's one thing to prep and watch McMorris slay triple cabs but as a run-of-the-mill intermediate rider, it's more helpful to watch someone like Doug showcase some of the fundamental mechanics before I get out there myself. Cool vid, I'll definitely follow you guys.

      Twix try to do an Indy or a method grab, for me it's easier to hit 5m jumps doing grabs then normal jumps since grabs kind of stabilize your body imo

    • @RubenRojasCHL
      @RubenRojasCHL 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Twix sure! tell me if it worked out for you, Indy grab is easier tho so just try to grab the center of your board wirlth you back hand, don't forget to tuck your knees in! :)

      Twix Try to do shiftys or start spinning, and just try to be More relaxed while jumping, never be stressed doing anything. I always try to control my balance with my arms, or don't use them.
