    Thank you for a lovely video. You explained it very well and even with all the details you did not make is too technical and scary difficult sounding.

    hello,
    Well done. question. so how many times you do this process on the same logs? do you keep reusing the same log over and over? how many batches of mushrooms you pull out of the same log before you discard it ? Thanks

    I'm about to order some plug spawn from you guys. I wonder if freshly cut black walnut logs work? And what species of mushrooms can I grow on them? Thanks!

    Thank you. Can the logs be transported in a vehicle? I want to start in Alberta but later move to BC.

      You would have to check with government agencies, as most of the time there are restrictions with moving firewood/logs across borders as they are trying to prevent the spread disease and such.
      If you are are able to transport the logs, they should be minimal issue to the logs with transporting them.

    • @mutulicaaa

      Use wax for spot where you innoculate mycellium and the terminals of the log and you will be fine.

    does this produce for multiple years or just one season, using the Oyster.

    • @GrowMushroomsCanada
      @GrowMushroomsCanada  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. It depends on the type of wood using how long you will get production. Oyster a very vigorous decomposers and tend to colonize the logs quickly, fruit quickly for a few years, and rot the log faster than say a shiitake that will take longer to first fruit, but then produce for more seasons.

    For shitake, I know I need hardwood. Will maple work?

    • @GrowMushroomsCanada
      @GrowMushroomsCanada  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Kirsten. Yes maple is a good species for many edible mushroom species. We have successfully grown shiitake on our local Big Leaf Maple.

      @@GrowMushroomsCanada Thanks. I'm also on Vancouver Island in Victoria. Just building my suburban farm and trying to find a crop that I can grow in full shade that might bring in a bit of income. Thanks

      @@GrowMushroomsCanada This is good to know as we have Red Alder, Big Leaf Maple and Douglas Fir - more options for logs that can be inoculated!

    Can I grow on pine logs

    • @GrowMushroomsCanada
      @GrowMushroomsCanada  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Pine is pretty antibacterial so it resists fungi pretty effectively. We have had success with Bear's Head, Phoenix Oyster, Chicken of the Woods, and Hemlock Reishi
